The Catholic Church's stance on some issues (such as decriminalizing homosexuality) might seem antiquated, but now the pope can say he's taking steps to enter the modern era. On Friday, the Pope Benedict XVI unveiled his very own YouTube page.
The Vatican hopes to increase the papal audience, while also staying on top of the pope's Internet image. Even so, the site isn't meant to encourage believers to spend countless hours listening to the Church's message. The 81-year-old pope previously has warned the younger generation of the dangers of "obsessive" online networking.

The technology might be updated, but the views and policies of the Vatican are appallingly out of touch. When the Vatican makes ending war, poverty and fighting for social justice its key issues, rather than abortion and other issues that celibate old men shouldn't concern themselves with, maybe I will care.
1contradictions all around.. Internet bad, no.. internet good.
2It is good to see them begin to use technology that will help them connect with the younger generations. As far as the Catholic Church's stances being "Out of touch" I have to disagree. Those are the same things that the Catholic Church has rallied against for generations, and it's a good thing to halt the killing of innocents.
3I dont think that abortion is an antiquated issue at all, and just as important as ending war (and how are they to do that) poverty (the catholic church does much for this cause) and social justice? what does that mean anyway?
4Sorry, but perhaps you're the one who's out of touch. Stopping the killing of living things is always a good, modern issue. The Vatican, and the Catholic church in general, does TONS for poverty. In fact, I'm drinking my morning coffee out of a cup which I got from a St Vincent de Paul thrift shop - the proceeds of which go to help the poverty stricken in my community. You clearly have not studied a lick of history if you think the Vatican in the last few centuries doesn't oppose war and do their best to stop it from occurring. And you can't say something vague like "Social justice" and expect people to do it... it's just way too ambiguous, and seems to be there as a way to be offended that it's not being done, no matter what else is.
5Personally, I applaud the Vatican for trying to be a little more modern.
who are you responding to chaton?
6CG, I think she's responding to Snowbunny
7okay, i was confused.
8CG, I was responding to snowbunny, but my answer to your question was reported and deleted because I expressed a not very nice opinion of her lack of knowledge about the Vatican's policies and Catholic Church in general, and pointed out the fact that she said things which are on the whole, untrue, so I can understand your confusion.
