Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi wants Congress to roll back the Bush tax cuts for families earning $250,000 ASAP, and she's also open to investigating the Bush administration. Barack Obama on the other hand, isn't so hot on those ideas.
Yesterday Politico pondered how Nancy Pelosi will act when she disagrees with President Obama. Pelosi won't look for a fight with Obama, since they agree on most broad policy, but she will probably use the media to keep some leverage over Obama. In other words, she won't keep her disagreement a secret.
Since the Democrats in power will be taking up a stimulus package, health care, and managing or ending the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan, do you think Nancy will help balance Barack's power?

Do you think Nancy Pelosi will keep Nancy Pelosi in check?
1Obama comes in with a mandate, while Pelosi and Harry Reid have a record of failing to check any of a long list of abuses of power by the Bush Administration - or even to speak out forcefully enough against them. She's the one who said impeachment was off the table. As a Democrat, I want her to pay attention to what the voters just said and follow Obama's lead, I've seen more than enough of her leadership "skills".
2I don't think it will be a questions of Pelosi keeping Obama in check. It'll be can Obama keep Pelosi and Reid in check. I answer both questions with the same answer.
No
3"Do you think Nancy Pelosi will keep Nancy Pelosi in check?"
HAHA! So true.
Yea, there is no way she will keep Obama in check. I don't think anyone will. I think only Obama could keep Obama in check.
4I just hope she realizes that Obama is trying to get the best ideas through...not necessarily just the "democrat" ideas. If she raises a big stink about the tax issue, I will have to think she is foolish. First of all, we need this recovery package to get bipartisan support, and keeping the tax cuts for a while brings the Republicans on board. Secondly, just because Obama lets the tax cuts remain while the economy is going through an extraordinary period doesn't mean that they will be left on the books forever. Third, raising taxes during economic strife probably isn't the best idea.
I hope she choses to champion good ideas, and doesn't just disagree simply to appear tough.

6I don't think they disagree on enough for her to "keep him in check" but she's a strong woman and she's not going to change her opinions to agree with him
7She's more than welcome to disagree with him, and the majority of America is more than welcome to think she's an idiot. She needs to keep herself in check more than she needs to keep Obama in check, TBH.
8what is TBH?
9I'm not a fan of her so I can't get on board with the idea of her keeping anybody in check. I think Nancy Pelosi cares about Nancy Pelosi and will act accordingly.
10I think Pelosi will end up looking petty if she gets in the way too much, especially on the issues mentioned above - Bush and the tax cuts. Given the economic times it's hard to believe anyone would want to increase taxes right now.
And while I'm sure there was some shady stuff going on in the Whitehouse for the last 8 years, we need our resources focused on the current looming problems at hand.
11Good points Jillness and Steph.
TBH = to be honest
12ahhh gotcha!
13lol, I'm so out of it on internet slang too! I was like, to bang head. To beat ham. To break hearts. To borrow hanes.
And Jill, excellent post! If that is how this presidency goes, I will be a happy lady.
14I couldn't care less about this woman.
"I just hope she realizes that Obama is trying to get the best ideas through...not necessarily just the "democrat" ideas. If she raises a big stink about the tax issue, I will have to think she is foolish."
I completely agree with you *Jill*. We don't have time for the petty stuff just so she can get more press. Barack and his people have important issues to tackle right NOW.
15Rahm will keep her in check.
