Online dating seems to be the new way for busy singles to meet new potential mates, and while I hear happy endings from men and women all the time, there are many cynics out there who are skeptical of the millions of people creating dating profiles.
Since it's easy to lie and be deceptive on such sites, the brains behind Match.com have just launched a new site, DownToEarth.com, which aims to be the most honest and respectful free dating service on the Internet. In an effort to give their community authentic members, they've come up with a rating system where fellow daters rank the users' profiles against their real lives. This is a genius idea if you ask me, but I wonder just how many people are actually dishonest when creating a profile. To the 37 percent of you online daters, tell me, have you ever lied in your profile?

i've never filled one out, so no
1Well, I met my boyfriend on Yahoo Personals, and the reason why I wanted to communicate with him was the fact that he seemed like a REAL person. Why lie when it comes to something you ultimately want honesty from...if you cannot be honest before the relationship even starts, why even go forth?
2Well, I've never actually made a dating profile, but I don't see the point in lying. Lying is never a good way to start off a relationship!
3No, isn't the whole point of online dating sites to actually one day meet someone? Lying would just ruin your chances later. I'm not the type of girl who lies anyway. I met my ex online and he lied about his age. He said he was 32 and he was really 36. That should have sent up a bunch of red flags but I was young and naive. Oh, what a difference 5 years makes.
4if i ever did have to do this, i also don't see the point in lying...i think my life is interesting enough that i'd find someone who would be interested in me and be a good match...and if i were to lie about something physical, well that's just dumb cuz eventually he's going to see me in person!
5I met my fiance on Match.com. While I did not lie on my profile, I don't think I read anyone with such an honest profile as his - he hid nothing and what I saw was what I (happily) got.
6No, I never lied.
7I did meet a couple of guys who didn't exactly have a realistic view of themselves though, like they thought they were open-minded and free-spirited when they were actually opinionated and judgmental...
No, I didn't need to! yeah, and isn't the point to find a good match? why lie then?
8I just made one...what a coincidence! *not really* And no, I didn't. But I bet every man on there will.
9yes, all the time. i signed up for eharmony when i was 10 and claimed i was a 67 year old father of 12 who smoked and drank every day and was interested in women under 25 with no children and high incomes, but i never got any responses
10I don't have such a profile. I swear I would die alone than to have such a profile, just not my style.
11nope.
