News of violence in the Middle East and record-high unemployment rates could have made this week a bit of a downer. Here are a few wacky news stories from the week that might make you chuckle!
- NY Man Demands Estranged Wife Pay Him For Kidney — A Long Island surgeon embroiled in a nearly four-year divorce proceeding wants his estranged wife to return the kidney he donated to her, although he says he'll settle for $1.5 million in compensation.
- Masked Man Waits in Line to Rob Bank — Wearing a ski mask, a 24-year-old man waited in line before he robbed an Ohio bank. Police arrested him after a brief car chase, explaining that bank robbers don't usually wait in line.
- Policeman Attacked Using Own Patrol Car — An Australian outback policeman was pelted with rocks and beer bottles and his stolen patrol car was used to try and run him down.
- PETA Asks Spearfish High School to Change Name to Sea Kitten High School — A PETA spokesperson says that children should be taught to refer to fish as "sea kittens" to show that fish are individuals just like cats and dogs. The animal rights groups thinks a name change could mean fewer fish killed for food or sport.
- After Three-Hour Standoff Outside Shed, Police Find No One Inside — Salt Lake City police officers were in a three-hour standoff with themselves. After a woman said a man was in the shed with a gun, officers secured the area, and evacuated neighbors. Despite the tipster's suspicions, they eventually found nobody inside the shed.

PETA's a joke. While I realize that overfishing is an epidemic in many places of the world, renaming a school Seakitten High School is no way to educate the students about the issue.
1PETA has become such a joke. Does anyone pay attention to them anymore?
2PETA has lost any respect they ever had. Sea kittens indeed.
3Spearfish High School is probably named after the city it's in. Spearfish South Dakota. Maybe PETA should ask the city to change it's name as well?
4ok the PETA thing is a bit ridic.
5OH PETA, PETA, PETA! Does anyone still care about what you at all?
6Anyone remember PeTA's campaign against the city of Fishkill, NY? Apparently any publicity for their stupidity is good publicity for their desperate agenda.
7Poor PETA. It comes down to leadership. They have some good points, but this kind of thing makes all their work go down the drain.
8And what about this kidney business? Too late now, buddy. Any court that does not throw that case out is a kangaroo court.
9The Australian police guy getting attacked? It actually happens alot, especially in the outback. Half the time stuff like that isn't newsworthy here.
10You cannot sell an organ in the US, it's against the law. Nice try buddy, but it won't fly.
11what ridiulous stories!!
The PETA one is making me crack up..I mean sea kitten?! wtf?
After a 3 hour standoff no-ones inside..HAHAHA.

13ridiculous
14I wonder about the guy who robbed the bank. The fact that he waited in line shows he had about zero knowledge of what he was doing. I wonder if we're going to see more idiotic crimes commmitted because of the lousy economy.
And yeah, PETA is just retarded.
The kidney thing is even more ridiculous. I hope he has to pay thousands of dollars for bringing this to court.
15ugh, my comment got blocked!
Why can't I say re tar ded?
For crying out loud. This site is lame sometimes.
16PETA is crazy - they really make sane vegetarians and vegans look bad. I don't understand their tactics. They are so militant!
And the man wanting his kidney back -now that is sad. Poor guy -clearly he is hurting and lashing out in the worst way he can think of.
17"Sea Kittens"
Oh, for God's sake.
18Changing the name is beyond militant, its silly.
Honestly with the resources they have, going around getting into a froth over semantics instead of focusing on something more productive and helpful....tsk. I can see why people are getting more put off by them by the day.
When people realize that extreme and militant behavior - regardless of the cause - does little to further the cause - the world will be a better, more sensible (and safer) place.
