While in line to get a cup of coffee the other day, I overheard a woman talking on the phone. No, I wasn't eavesdropping — everyone in the cafe heard her shout "You're preggers?!" It was really sweet that she got so excited, but I admit I was a little surprised that she used the term "preggers." Of course I've heard it before, but I didn't realize it was so mainstream. I'm kind of indifferent to the word myself, but I know some people who absolutely loathe it. So tell me, are words like prego, preggers, and preggie too cutesy for your taste?

Hate "prego" and "preggie" but I think preggers is kinda fun and cute. Not that declaring beautiful (but serious) news like pregnancy should sound so juvenile anyway, but
ehh. I've got 5 months of being a teenager left to kinda get away
with it.
1the word "preggers" makes me want to vomit, but i'll say prego jokingly. if a friend told me she was pregnant, i'd certainly just say the word pregnant.
2Definitely against it my little cousin who is 18 uses that term. I'm fine with the word Pregnant.
3I say "prego" on occasion. Ha.
4'Pregnant' just sounds so serious... like you're that 16yr old girl in highschool who just found out her boyfriend didnt pullout quick enough.
Preggers sounds more upbeat, fun, fancyfree if you will! I didnt realize it was such an issue haha I certainly wouldnt tell my boyfriend "hey honey, guess what? I know you said you didnt want kids until you were a famous rock star but guess what? I'm preggers!" but if you're congratulating a friend I see nothing wrong with it.
5jokingly i say prego and pregs... but i wouldn't really use either term in a situation where someone was sharing the news with me that they were pregnant... seems a little weird
6I hate prego it irritates the hell out of me. Preggers I don't mind too much.
7Hate all of it. Just say "pregnant" -- if I ever heard someone in their 20's or 30's say "preggers" seriously, I'd probably have to throw up a little in my mouth. Even teens saying "preggers" -- it just sounds so trailer trash...being pregnant is something that is serious and beautiful, don't try to be "cute", usually people who do that sound like dumbasses.
8i dont like any of them
9i'd say preggo but not the others
10I say preggers.
11Prego is a spaghetti sauce. LOL
But honestly, it's a word, and a term of endearment. Who cares if the prego, preggi, preggers or pregnant women use it? Really, it's just a word!
12I dislike preggo and preggers when used often but I do not mind seeing it in print - If I find out someone is pregnant I would say preggers as a joke but rarely do I find myself using cutesy terms like that.
13I think the words are annoying, but who cares what words people use, as long as they're not being crude in front of kids or the elderly?
14I don't really care. Just as chatondeneige stated above, it's not that big a deal. It's just a couple of words meant with no ill will behind it.
15For some reason I view all of these words with negativity. Like if it were a derogatory term, like "oh lisa is prego now, what a ho" kind of thing.
16LoL Fallen. Haha, well Preggers was cute at first, but a friend of mine kept using it over and over and constantly, so now I hate the word and it reminds me of her and almost makes me hate her for it >_
17For some reason absolutely hate the word "preggers". I don't know why, it just grates against my ears.
18I just say, "knocked up."
19pioneers, I love the phrase "knocked up!"
20Yuck, I hate them all!
21I'm fine with all.
22I always say preggers. whats the big deal?
23I am so glad you asked this because I thought it might just be me. I hate the word "preggers"! I don't know why; it's totally irrational. I think it just sounds cheap, somehow cheapens the reality of it. I also would love to see "baby bump" retired.
24nancita, I'm with you on baby bump! And I want to get rid of "bump watch," too! (I never want to get rid of food baby, though!)
25Yea I just say knocked up too! I think Preggers and Preggo all sound so dumb to me.
26Personally, I don't like the word. It's just a matter of personal taste. I prefer "pregnant" or "expecting."
27Preggers is an annoying word......
28they don't annoy me but I could see how someone saying it over and over again could irritate me.
29Overused by the press and impersonal. I don't like it.
30I don't really like those terms.
31i use them jokingly, like "dont preggo my eggo!" if the mood is light ill use "preggers" but if its something serious id say "pregnant"
32I really don't like any of those - it doesn't bother me if someone else uses them, though.
33I LOATHE the word preggers or prego, esp. if we are talking about someone actually being pregnant. If people use that to talk about ME when I'm pregnant I'll be a little put off.
BUT danielacatherine, "don't prego my eggo" is truly hilarious! Wish I had known that phrase earlier so I could use it more!
34Not a fan. "Pregs" doesn't bug me, but cutesy words (veggies, yummy, preggers) make me crazy.
35Don't care for the term. I'm a woman, I'm carrying a life inside of me, and I need to respect my body and my responsibility.
On the other hand, the lady on the phone may have been a fair weather friend to hear the news on the phone. I took the time to tell the people closest to us about the pregnancy (preggers) and asked them for support.
I feel old, I remember when it use to be "knocked up" or "bun in the oven" or "delicate situation" just my opinion.
36I know sometimes it sounds okay and fits, but I'm not a fan of "preggers". Since its two syllables like pregnant I'm not sure why people use it, not like its a short form.
37I despise the term for reasons unknown to me.
38for some reason preggers sounds really weird and off putting to me.
39i use the term preggo.
I'm also quite indifferent to that word. It doesn't annoy me as much as it annoys other people. *Shrugs*
40It makes you sound like total trash, it's a term primarily used by teenage girls when the pregnancy is unwanted.
41Lol, you'd hate me then BellSugar
well cept for preggers,
I'd vaporize that word from all existence if I could...as for knocked up...it sounds so cheap, like if someone was roaming around town having sex with everyone they laid eyes on and got
pregnant on purpose -_-, why not just say "OMG, She's pregnant! Yay! *smiles!* That's cute in itself... as opposed to "OMG She's preggers" ugh...just say it...maybe over and over and listen
to yourself...record it if you have to, doesn't it just make you sick? Try having that one drilled into your head like a bad song for a good 3 months o_O.
42What I hate even more are the assclowns who think they're so important they must take phone calls in public places and shout their conversations for everyone to hear. Who am I to care if she speaks in some infantile language? She deserves a beat down for contaminating society with her rudeness and lack of social skills. I'm surprised no one else noticed this before me.
43I hate "preggers" and "prego". Those words are like nails on a chalkboard to me! I've only heard of unwed pregnant teenagers using these words.
44I disagree about sounding like trash and teenaged mothers using these terms. I've only heard the terms being mostly used by magazines, entertainment shows, or online gossip sites when they talk about celebrities.
45"preggers" is really trashy. I only say it jokingly or derogatorily.
46Its fine every once in awhile (I am actually pregnant right now) but when my friend calls or I call her and EVERY time she says "HELLO PREGGO!!" it starts to get annoying.
47Its not a problem for me. I mean, it all means the same thing.
48any word is fine if getting pregnant is the ultimate goal. Hope I will have a chance to say the "P" word soon before all my eggs flushes out monthly and year after year without ever getting the chance to be enveloped into a being.
49Just say pregnant... No need to make it cute. It's not hard to say.
