Starting the new year off on the right foot doesn't have to be about New Year's resolutions — it can be taking a new route to work, joining a book club, or carrying a new purse — anything to break the monotony of 2008. I started '09 with a new hair cut so do tell, what personal adjustments did you make to start 2009 off with a bang?

I treated myself to some makeup. I usually never wear any, but now I've obtained my first job and we're expected to dress formally at all times...so I figured a well-kept face is a part of that
1I broke up with my boyfriend. I've been wanting to for a while, have been un happy and he's been taking me for granted. I finally got the balls to do it! It's gonna be a good year.
2actually Angela...that's so funny because I did the exact same thing right before new years eve...I guess if I didn't even mention it in this thread, it must mean I've really put him past me, hehe
well it was kinda weird, technically he broke up with ME...But there's more to it than that. He suddenly told me we should stop seeing each other, last week. I've been telling him for a very long time now (at least six months) that I didn't want to see him anymore, that if he wasn't in love with me, he should really stop just being with me rather than us wasting each other's time. But he refused and kept coming back (I don't know, to try to get me into bed or something, while he knows I'd rather not have sex without both of us being in love). There was no way I could get him to go away. (Now you might think I'm being mean, but honestly, he showed no sign of being in love with me; he just kept coming to have me as a last option or some kind of timepass...which is what I couldn't accept).
So what could I do? I subconsciously started behaving rather miserably towards him. Always picking on him, giving him some kind of fight, just annoying him, saying hurtful things, etc. I figured that the only way he was going to leave is when he wanted to leave himself. I didn't quite do it consciously, but I guess part of me wanted to punish him for wasting my time and also for not loving me.
3And it worked, because he just told me he experiences too much discomfort with me now and that he wants to stop seeing me. I have mixed emotions about this...in the end, this is what I wanted, but of course in the initial phase I will miss him a little bit. He was and is a sweet, responsible guy, but I guess the minimum I deserve is someone who loves me! doesn't everybody?
I'll miss him, but this will pass, and I'm sure I'll meet a great guy better suited to me, sometime later...
I am in the process of quitting smoking, I started new yrs day and only had one a day for 4 days it's been day 2 without a cigarette and i couldn't feel better!
4I started the new year at work dressing up in my nicest work cloths ... to motivate me to dress up more for work.
5I started "the no S diet", joined a gym, started reading again and cooking =) I think it's going to be a good year
6New haircut for me, too. Screw the diet and exercise resolutions; I resolve to love myself for who I am and not torture myself with ridiculous guilt trips.
7the girl in that picture needs to adjust her lipliner.
8I've started out with NOT buying a bus pass, so now I'll try to walk everywhere. It can actually save me some time, as the bus is slower than a pedestrian through the rush hours, plus, it's good exercise! I now have a 30 min walk to school, 45-50 min walk to work and 15 min between the two. All in a lot of snow. We'll see how long it takes before I'm back on the bus
9oh good lord, Caterpiller, you are SO right! yeeeps!
10ive started the south beach diet..
11today is day 3 carb free..lets see how long i can last..
I started learning how to deal with my anxiety. It hasn't even been a week and I feel better already.
12New perfume, and I finally took a step and saw a doctor about my public speaking anxiety. And I'm going to take a pottery class too!
13Taking up yoga again to broaden my exercise program and to help with stress....I have to say, it really does help.
14New cut, new color, new me! It's quite revitalizing
15no dieting... just eating healthier
16silje - i salute you! be careful though!
17well i say, get healthy, get fit, get rid of the junk food! as a family, we are ice skating more, skiing, sleighing, snowboarding, snowshoeing, walking,, it is all about getting out there and being active!! shut the tv off, get off the computer and GO!!!!
18New haircut, which I told the stylist "Do whatever you think is best for me." Always wanted to do that, and finally did! The new do is totally different from my usual cuts, being shorter and edgier, which takes some getting use to.
Also, more raw fruits and vegetables. Only because the kitchen's under renovation. But I suppose that's a plus point beyond the dust and noise.
19amen to the lip liner comment. I did a double take...
