Former vice-presidential candidate Sarah Palin's 18-year-old daughter Bristol Palin gave birth to a healthy 7 lb., 4 oz. baby boy Sunday in Alaska. The baby's name is Tripp Easton Mitchell Johnston, according to a family member who also said the baby and Bristol are "doing well."
The baby's father, Levi Johnston, is an apprentice electrician who has been dating Bristol for three years and has said he and Bristol plan to marry in 2009 and raise the child together.
The teenage mother announced her pregnancy during Palin's campaign amid rumors that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for Bristol.

Good luck to them all.
1Good luck to her, and to the new baby. I sincerely hope she doesn't get married next year. Even if they think it's right, and it's what they want, and they do love one another, I still think they're so young. On a side note, it's unfortunate that idiotic names run in the family.
2congrats to her!
3I don't like the name...But I wish them all the best!
4it's good to hear that they're both healthy. i wish them all the best. i really like easton mitchell. tripp... eh. it's kinda cool but not for real.
5"The whole damn world is country. All over the world from Monday to Sunday yall the same folk we see in Kentucky."
That's seriously what I thought of when I heard that name.
6I hope somebody straps up from now on so she doesn't accidently get pregnant again.
7"The teenage mother announced her pregnancy during Palin's campaign amid rumors that Palin faked her own pregnancy to cover up for Bristol."
That is one unusual sentence.
8sorry, I'm not celebrating teenage pregnancy.
9God bless them all...
10Well that is a name that certainly (trips) off my tongue. I think the new baby at this time is fantastic timing. It will ground the family bring them back to focus on the core and give them hope for the future.
11She should have gone with Easton Mitchell Johnston. That is a bad ass name but no she HAD to add that Tripp in the beginning. Boo, Bristol, boo.
12bad name...like mother,like daughter.
13Bristol is a great name. It makes me think of the best track in NASCAR. I go to Food City 500 in Bristol, TN every year. I will concede however that some of the other names are interesting. Go Palins I guess for not being ordinary like other people.
14I suspect she was named after her Oxycontin dealing future mother in law..."Tripp'n ".
15I agree with Beavis, I really like the names Bristol, Willow (I really love Willow), and Piper, they're cute and not ordinary.
16On a side note, can I just add that this guy looks like a complete douche bomb?
17I agree that she should have left off the "Tripp". Was she trying to follow in Mom's footsteps (with Trig)?
Marrying at 18...sigh. Yikes.
18Congrats. A new baby. Time to celebrate.
19I agree, congrats and good luck to them. Trig, track, tripp--- interesting names, I am thinking it may have to do with their eskimo heritage. But I do really love the names willow, bristol and piper.
20Tripp, I immediately think of the show Enterprise, the main engineers name was Tripp. I like it.
I have no problem with them getting married and I don't understand anyone who does. Its a natural progression, and if they are committed to each other and love one another its a good thing. I think society places more emphasis on what they both should be experiencing as "young" people than what is their responsibility which is that child.
I hope Levi has gotten help with his issues, and I applaud them for looking towards the future and building a happy home.
21citizen what was the point in putting Bristol's age? I don't recall other first daughters being referenced to their ages other then children, which is weird I think
22maybe i'm crazy, but my idea of a good name isn't one that reminds me of a nascar race. and the point of putting her age is because she was young and thats 'scandalous'. personally, i dont give a crap.
23Who knew an innocent baby could bring out so much hatred?
24Eh, I dated a nice guy named Tripp in high school, so I like the name.
He wasn't
particularly different though so I don't know where that name comes from. Good luck to these two.
25sarah they do it to Malia and Sasha too, Barbara and Jenna Bush 20+ and headline, i mean come on we all know she was young but its done you cant change it,
26Well good luck to them... they need it. I really hope they don't get married just because they feel they have to now that they have a baby. I've seen too many people I went to high school with get married because they got knocked up... and then got divorced two years later.
27Good luck to them. They have a hard road in front of them, so I'm not going to say something about the name, just good luck.
28wow... nice name, not.
29Good luck to the couple, and the baby. It's not the most conventional way to become a family, but it can be done. I don't envy the road ahead. I hope their friends and family are very supportive.
30Who cares that her age was mentioned? I certainly am not losing sleep over it.
Plus...ages are mentioned all the time..The Obama girls have there ages mentioned, as did the Bush twins and so on...
Maybe this isn't the best way for things to have turned out for Bristol, but it's happened so might as well make the best of it.
31I think it is this comment that gets me, "The teenage mother announced her pregnancy"
32And I don't think they are getting married because of the child. They had already said they were going to get married before finding out she was pregnant. Where I don't think getting married just because you have a child is the best idea. It isn't for any of us to say why they are doing it. I got married at 20 with no children. We are still together 8 years later and going strong. It all depends. Where you may have known someone who got divorced after a couple of years, that isn't always the case.
who says its not the best way for things to have turned out for her, thats her judgement right? Maybe she is looking down at her newborn and thinking that life is perfect.....she doesnt have to "make the best of it"
good lord.
33Congrats! I'm glad she had a healthy baby!
34I can't believe there are people that say hateful things about the birth of a baby and his name! She may be a better mother than ones in their 20s, 30s whatever. Give her a break. Geez
35I dont automatically assume a late 20's person is more mature and adjusted then anyone younger. People are people, faults and immaturies abound everywhere.
36Caterpillar I was trying to defend her against all those who are saying that she is too young, shouldn't get married.. blah blah blah...
And I said "maybe" it wasn't the best...just as you said "maybe" she is looking down at her newborn....I don't know any responsible teenager who wants to get pregnant. But it happened, and yes, she should make the best of the situation by loving her child like any mother would, and I have no doubt that she is.
Jeez.
37Tripp????? Are they serious? That's worse than Knox.
38YAY let's glamorize babies having babies! GREAT call!
39Nothing says glamorizing teen pregnancy than a $300,000 photo shoot.
40Who is glamorizing it? Geez! It's not like she is a 15 year old on welfare!! She is 18 and will be getting married. She is starting a family, not going out to be some single mom who has sex with God only knows. Way different situation than most teenage pregnancies I think.
41And like it or not she is an adult now.
42I'm talking about the photo shoot. That is glamorizing it, b/c most teens moms don't come from affluent families who they can fall back on when the going gets rough and expensive. Bristol is extremely lucky and I'm completely hating because she will be getting money for photos of her child.
43She's legal now, but she was pregnant before she was legal.
What exactly is the difference between Bristol and a 15 year old on welfare? They plan on getting married sometime, they aren't married now, so how is Bristol "starting a family" and "not going out to be some single mom who has sex with God only knows".
Bristol got pregnant at 17, she and her boyfriend have dropped out of school, they say they plan to marry but haven't: how is paying her $300,000 to splash pictures of teenaged her and her baby NOT endorsing teenage pregnancy AND how is it NOT saying the morality is different if you're rich?
44I didn't say it was different because they were rich. I didn't even know about selling any pictures before franky said something. The morality is different because of their values. And maybe she wants a big wedding... you know the kind where you wear a pretty dress and having a big baby bump kind of ruins pictures. When a mom if forced to raise the baby and pay for everything, it also put child rearing in a different perspective. If the state pays for you insurance to have the baby, and then pays you monthly in cash aid, food stamps, day care, section 8 etc... then they will never truly understand the sacrifice that it is to have a child. They will continue to have unprotected sex with god knows who because who cares if they have another one. I don't think you should have kids if you can't afford them, so the difference between rich and poor is just that and nothing moral about that difference. Unless you consider living off welfare immoral.
45And trust that there are way more democrat teenage mothers than republican ones. So not sure which is glorifying it more. One that sanctions the actions is my guess.
46I don't know if the assertion that "there are way more democrat teenage mothers than republican ones" is necessarily correct. Generally speaking, Republicans are more averse to abortion than Democrats...so for me the logic doesn't really follow.
47Sorry Hainan I DON'T trust that there are more democrat teenage mothers than republican ones. What a bold statement for you to make. How about u try that again.
48Does this mean that this entire family can now disappear, and I not have to look at or hear about the effing Palins ever again? That would make for a great 2009.
49I have heard, and read that there are actually far more republican teenage mothers than democrats, because hello, us democrats love us some abortions. There was also a study released just last week stating that teenagers that take abstinence pledges are more likely to have sex. So, yea, keep fighting for abstinence only education...
>And trust that there are way more democrat teenage mothers than republican ones.
I'll file that under "People Making Stuff Up On The Internet."
