I remember the day well; when my little brother burst my Santa Claus bubble. He came home from school and while we were having a snack in the kitchen, he told me that his friend's older brother said that Santa wasn't real. I was devastated and bawled my eyes out.
I have a feeling most of you have a story similar to mine so do tell, when did you stop believing in Santa? And how did you find out that it wasn't actually him that ate the cookies and drank the milk by the tree?
Dolce & Gabbana
ras
John Lewis
4th or 5th grade when my sister and i found an obnoxious stack of presents in their closet. but i kinda had stopped believing the year before when I wanted Santa to sign a paper and it looked exactly like my mother's handwriting.
1what do you mean stop? are you implying that there is no santa?
2I still believe
3When I realized we didn't have a chimney and it never snows in the Philippines. So about 9 years old.
4And Dear--lmao!! Isn't it supposed to be the other way around? ;p
5I don't remember, I don't think it was an exact moment. I think I slowly began to doubt it, and eventually my parents came right out an told me, but by that time they were just confirming what I already knew.
6never! lol no um i say 4th grade
7Christmas 2005. I really wanted to light a fire in a fireplace that Christmas
84th grade...damn 90210! LoL
9I was five, I think. I used to write letters to the "elves," but one time, I forgot to tell my mom about it.
Never got a letter.
Then my mom decided it would be a good
time to tell me the truth.
10I was five and told my mom that there was no such thing as santa claus and that was it. All my friends still believed and I was that kid who crushed everyone else's dreams. LOL I remember adults always asking me, what did santa claus bring you, and I replied 'there is no santa.' They tried to convince me otherwise and I didn't appreciate it. LOL
11never did.
12I never did lol:
13i still believe!
but 4real it was prob around early teens...i believed for a long time and i always will in my heart! soo sappy haha
14Its scary how you can tell a child anything
15I never did believe in Santa, but I told my mom I didn't believe in Santa when I was like 6. I told my brother that day that Santa wasn't real and he was 4. It made xmas MUCH better.
16when i was five, i asked my mom if santa was really real...
17she couldn't lie, she said no.
ever since then i have been wrapping the presents
I said to my mother "THERE IS GOING TO BE A STRANGE MAN IN MY BEDROOM?" and she fessed up.
They made hoofprint stamps out of potatoes one year, very convincing! Half eaten carrots and everything.
18I still like to believe he's real. Hmm, but seriously... no idea when I stopped believing. It was probably a slow, gradual thing.
19I really don't remember when it happened - for me or my brother. I think my parents didn't make a big deal of it to begin with so it wasn't a trauma when we found out the truth.
But one year after the family Christmas party, our second cousin told his mom that my brother blabbed to him. His mom called our mom upset - and my brother hadn't done anything! He was so upset, and offended that anyone would think he would do something like that. I reminded him of it a few years back and he got all upset all over again, hee hee.
20I hate it when like.. if someone ever brings this question up (I don't know why but its happened a few times haha) and one person always says "WHATTTT!! THERESSS NOO SANTAAA!!! OOMGG" like thats not funny. Anyway, I was probably in 3rd grade.
21I never did-and it drove me mother nuts. She tried so hard...I should have pretended to make her happy.
22I think it was 4th grade...I heard my parents trooping up and down the stairs putting presents under the tree around 2am. I have a younger brother, so I still had to play along for a couple years afterwards.
23I still believe.
Santa is as real as I want him to be. Santa Claus is an attitude, a feeling. If you believe, then he's real.
24But in response to your question, when did someone first try to MAKE me think there wasn't a Santa? That was when I was 9. My big brother tried to tell me he didn't exist, that he was Mom and Dad. I promptly told him, "Well, he is real, and if you don't believe in him, I guess you won't get any gifts." and sure enough, he didn't get a SINGLE Santa present that year. I did though! In fact, I still get some every year.
25One year my little brother and I found a Sega Genesis behind the couch and on Xmas morning it was marked "From Santa"... thats when I really clued in.
26Though I'm sure I did when I was little, I can't actually remember believing in Santa, or anyone telling me he wasn't real. I have a terrible memory.
haha.
27U mean there is no Santa Clause !!!
28I think I was four. It was late at night and I was really thirsty. On my way to the kitchen, I saw my mum on a ladder, putting gifts on the stockings and under the tree. I was pretty heartbroken.
29My dad forgot to put the "Santa" wrapping paper away.
30I was 8 when I found out. I left a letter for Santa along with his cookies. I don't remember what the letter said, except for it asked for him to sign his name, say hello to Mrs. Claus (haha!) and answer my question ("do you know Frosty the Snowman?")- all of which I was 100% serious about. When I woke up on Christmas and found my letter, I realized it was NOT Santa's writing- it was my Mom's... apparently something I had never noticed on present tags, lol. Also, a discussion afterwards with my Mom has become a joke we tell every year. I asked her about the letter, and she confessed. Afterwards, we had a pretty long discussion including the Tooth Fairy, The Easter Bunny, etc. which she claimed still existed. I don't think it took me much longer to figure those out too, though.
But I still like to believe in Santa
an over-sized bunny however.... is just a
little bit too creepy for me!
31Never believe in Santa. Never was rich or that well off enough to do the presents thing so much. I got toys yes, my dad gave me presents. My dad was Santa I guess? OKay, well I actually didn't that much about Santa, and I didn't really care. Really, I don't think I'm going to encourage my kids to believe in Santa. They'll know I love them and care for them, and want the best for them and want them to be happy. I'll be Santa, and they'll know it. Not some Jolly-Red-Fat-Man. I know sounds cynical...but if Santa were real he's stop failing me like he always did :'(.
32I saw my mom eating the cookies...
33and I had sneaked a peak at some presents before s-mas and later told me they were from santa...I was 7.
I have no idea when I found out, I think I just slowly realized it.
34Where I'm from there is no santa claus - baby Jesus brings the gifts! and he's real, lol. In other countries the three wise men bring the gifts.
35Although I have heard that lately santa is becoming more prevalent in all of latin america because of movies and TV.
I was really young. I was probably 5 or 6. I sneaked into the living and saw my parents (actually, maybe just my mom) stuffing our stockings and then I knew. I think one of my sisters told me so that is why I went to check.
36Okay like 5 people made the same "I STILL BELIEVE IN SANTA !" comment. It is SO annoying. uuuuuuuugh!
37I have a little sister that 10 years younger than me, so when I probably would have stopped believing, I just kept on going because of her. Now I'm a fourth grade teacher and the kids are starting to question more. I just read the Polar Express and ask if they can hear the bell. That usually settles any questions they have!
38I was 7. My mom was driving me to the ballet studio. "Hey, funny story, you know how, like, sometimes you tell little kids something is real, and it's kind of not...?"
39so what if people made the same "i still believe in santa" jeez, it is not that big of a deal. So you don't like it, fine, don't be such a downer though, damn.
40It is kind of a big deal, actually. Santa is not cute, adults claiming to believe in Santa is not cute, taking credit away from hard-working parents is not cute, lying to children is so not cute.
41i never believed in santa.. i remember being 7 years old and just thinking why parents would lie to their kids about some fat guy that rides flying reindeers. i thought it was the most retarded thing i've ever heard in my life, and i will never tell my kids that some fat dude is going to come down the chimney and give them gifts.
42Exactly, Lyv. I totally agree.
433 days away till santa comes everyone! the weather looks good, the reindeer should be able to fly alright! remember to leave cookies out and carrots! merry christmas!
44I think I was 4 or 5. I found out by reading Superfudge by Judy Blume. I always warn parents that it contains that spoiler.
45We make cookies but it's not for Santa it's for me!! I don't get why they feel the need to say some random guy gives kids their parents but it doesn't bother me. It's kinda of tradition and I like tradition.
46well if adults not believing in santa isnt cute then niether is a pampered adult using the word "like" in every sentence and talking like a "valley girl". personally i would rather talk to the adult that still believes in santa than the "valley girl". i don't necesarily like the santa thing but nor do i like fake acting women either..... dont you need to be off doing your nails or something?
