When People magazine asked President Bush what he wants to do once he's out of the Oval Office, he said:
"It's hard to tell, hard to imagine what it's like to go from 100 miles an hour to five. I'm going to want to build a policy institute at Southern Methodist, probably write a book. And beyond that, I'm open for suggestions."
Prior to his two terms as President of the United States, Bush served as Texas Governor, acted as part owner of the Texas Rangers, worked on his dad's 1988 Presidential campaign, and put in some time in the energy business. He has a bachelors in history from Yale, and an MBA from Harvard.
Based on that resume, do you have any suggestions for what Bush should do after Air Force One drops him off back in Texas?

My car needs a good washing...
1He could join Habitat for Humanity and build houses in New Orleans, he could help clean up that ash mess in Tennessee, learn a little something about environmental realities, he could work with a refugee group in the Middle East - meet some of those Iraqis his policies displaced. Or he could go do to himself what he's done to so much of the country and the world...
2I hope he writes a book b/c I am interested in reading it. I think Stef has a good idea - he could really help with the rebuilding of NO. There is just so much he could do.
3He should build a money bank and swin in it a la Scrooge McDuck
4Yes i have one: Nothing absolutely, nothing. He made enough mess. Basta already!
5Wow, this question really kind of leaves me speechless. What would really be appropriate for this man? I am sure the answers are going to get pretty entertaining!
6I think he should work with medical clinics in his area. Maybe spend some of his private money on outlying clinics so they don't close down when the reality of Obama's medical plan and the reimbursement rates of such will force many to close down. I also think that going to the outlying communities of people that evacuated Katrina would be a good idea. I was actually going to go down there after Katrina happened until republicans were accused of not caring about the area. I hope he could help restore the image that bad liberals have made of him. He is a sincere caring guy, and I would love to work on his team if he went to the New Orleans area.
7I will be VERY surprised to see George Bush do anything for the gulf coast region after his term is officially over.
I see paid speaking engagements
8I wish for him to wrap his lower lip around his head and swallow. Hard.
9Bad, bad liberals! We made widdle Bushie look like a bad, bad man!
From that picture, he'd be great with animals. Maybe a grooming service or an animal rescue or something like that.
10>I was actually going to go down there after Katrina happened until republicans were accused of not caring about the area.
You were going to go help until someone said you didn't want to help? Way to...prove them wrong...?
11I'd love to see him volunteer in the Gulf Coast area, but I doubt that'll happen. He'll probably write a book like he said and then do paid speaking engagements like other former Presidents.
12"I was actually going to go down there after Katrina happened until republicans were accused of not caring about the area."
I don't understand that reasoning Hainan. Wouldn't you go in order to prove that accusation wrong?

15Cowboy Stripper?
JOKING.
16
17uh cowboy strpper...nasty nasty picture in my head!
There's so many things he should do and so many he shouldn't.
I dont know how I'd feel about living in a house that he helped build..er.
18He's "stripper" name and tagline could be "Midnight Cowboy...hookin'em all night long"
19*His
20^ okay the picture came back.
21Comedian! Hey can open for Wanda Sykes and give her a home run every night, lol.
22clean up his mess
23He should go for his dream job - MLB Commissioner. That's the job he's always wanted and now he has the experience on his resume.
24NO I knew several republicans that went there in the hours following. It makes no difference, that's all. They still saw it as republicans didn't care, even though there were many there helping, just not in the name of republican party. And i didn't want to help those who wouldn't be appreciative. I see the error of my ways, which is why I would go now. I admit, I was damn angry when I heard people saying that. And I didn't want to help people that were making false accusations and blatant stereotyping (the same way others do and they complain about constantly.) I would like to correct my wrongs, help out there, but not to show them they were wrong. However, that would be nice to see the people of that area correcting their prior statements. It wouldn't be necessary. I know now it shouldn't matter what anyone thinks.
25And em it wasn't about proving them wrong. I was just angry.
26Exactly who is this "they" that you are referring to?
27"And i didn't want to help those who wouldn't be appreciative."
28People were dying and losing their homes, the city was under water and you were worried about people being appreciative????
What could I have done to change those things you speak of Steph? And were you there?
29And didn't I say I was wrong? Sh!t nothing please you!
They = the people who said republicans don't care.
30You clearly couldn't have helped the situation (well, I guess you could have prayed just a little bit harder and longer), but help is help. And it sounds like you didn't even want to do that because you weren't going to get a pat on your back.
31It wasn't about a pat on the back. It is about human beings being well... human. Getting angry when things are said about them that are untrue.... And how many times do i have to say this. I WAS WRONG IN MY THINKING! see comment "I would love to work on his team if he went to the New Orleans area." "I see the error of my ways, which is why I would go now." "I would like to correct my wrongs, help out there, but not to show them they were wrong." "And didn't I say I was wrong?"
32please read.... it helps!
And tiabia- did you drive 2100 miles to go help?
33Volunteer in a nursing home.
34Speed bump.
35He has no plans. No ideas. No offers. OMG that is so pathetic. That can't be typical, right?
36It is pathetic that he doesn't know what to do right now. Now that there is soo many things to be done around the world.
37I think a long vacation is in order. A long, long vacation.
38I don't know why ya'll are picking on Hainan, Katrina victims WERE unappreciative. You know how I know? I live right next door in Southeast Texas, you know Texas, where people are prepared for the hurricanes that come every five to ten years. When they bussed the people from New Orleans to Houston they left garbage EVERYWHERE, b*tched and complained the entire time, raked in all the free money they could get and thought the federal government should fix what their state government messed up by being unprepared. We experienced Rita right after Katrina and many many people lost their homes, my hometown was wrecked, and no one complained and when people came to help we said thank you.
39Hain, you keep telling people to read your comments, but maybe you should read other comments as well. I never said anything about you proving anyone wrong. What you did or didn't do to help or not help victims of Katrina is your business, not mine. Soooo...yeah.
40Funny you say that, because the Katrina victim that my friend housed while he transferred to Northwestern had gratitude seeping out of every pore every single day he was here. But hey, guess that was just one grateful person.
41OK, now I'm just commenting to see my avatar up here three times in a row. Colin Farrell is a gorgeous man.
42He's super hot em, except when he does the long haired dirtbag look. Yowza.
43Good point, sarah. But even then, he starts talking and it's like, "What greasy hair?"
OK, fine. You *almost* think that, but not quite. I like his SWAT/Tigerland/In Bruges looks. HAWT.
44Yes. Yes. And Yes.
I think I just have an aversion to long greasy looking hair.
45I think the one guy who pulls it off remotely well in real life would be Johnny Depp, but he doesn't get quite as greasy as Farrell. And, uh, Viggo Mortensen in the Lord of the Rings movies. Aragorn!
46I think it is sad that he doesn't have any plans after office. Apparently he has checked out of ALL aspects of his life, not just the presidency. I'd like to see him quietly doing some good domestically -- as many have mentioned, working the Gulf Coast would be a nice fit -- without much media coverage and fanfare. Say what you want about the man (and I am no fan of his), but he seems much more suited to using his money and time away from much limelight.
47Ok, Viggo Mortensen can pull it off. There's always an outlier!
48why doesn't he finish that military thing he snuck out and of in college or whenever (sorry i don't know the exact details)
49but i am sure they could use him in iraq! just don't let him make any decisions......
ughh. I truly apologize em. I read comments fine, just not names. I meant Sarah. I am truly, truly sorry.
