Not long after Sarah Palin sled into the national limelight, rumors started circulating that Trig, her newborn son, was not her fifth born, but really the son of her 17-year-old daughter Bristol. Stop the press, Sarah said, that's impossible. And then she threw down what is probably the greatest comeback in the I-didn't-pretend-to-have-my-daughter's-baby genre ever: She's pregnant now.
And so Bristol stopped covering up with a blanket and baby brother Trig on her chest. She brought fiancé, Levy Johnston, to the Republican National Convention, where he had his 15 minutes, though he found time for more. Overall, the press respected Bristol's privacy and let the story go. Expect to hear more soon, though, because the governor of the great state of Alaska is expected to add grandmother to her résumé Dec. 18.

Was this really shocking? Personally, I'd say mildly surprising and move on.
1I never ever do this...but there has been some stuff that was missed on here this week, like Obama's choice of Steve Chu as Secretary of Energy. I don't have a problem with the Bristol Palin posts, but I am kind of wondering where the "newsier" posts are.
2Ok this is totally off topic, but it is snowing Mid-December in Portland
!!!
It is so pretty...
Haha I love hot cocoa/tea, reading weather. I might even go for a walk.
Sorry this is Ex Southern Californian glee.
3I'm gonna go with Stephley and say that this isn't really shocking at all. When your mother doesn't expect you to have sex before you married she probably won't be discussing birth control with you.
Anyways congrats to your 18 year plus dependent miracle from God Bristol.
4she's a pretty girl. hopefully her baby is heathy.
5I must say I was totally surprised and shocked by the announcement because of the strong and very public political views on sex education of her mother. And because I thought it was an odd choice for the VP spot with this baggage. It was my impression that candidates in the past few years have been so careful about family values stuff. They usually wait until after they are elected to divorce their sick wives/pick up other men in airport bathrooms/use call girls.
6this isnt shocking.
7Meh...
8I, for one, was shocked when her pregnancy was announced...only because her mother is so anti-abortion and anti-sex education.
9*sigh*
I don't know how I feel about this rehashing.
10It was such a crappy year, I can't say I'm enjoying reliving it.
11Well I, for one, was 19, unmarried, and pregnant this year with my son who has Down Syndrome. I credit Jamie Lynn, and then ESPECIALLY the Palins, with my mom not killing me for it! I mean, she really came around with the Palin announcement. It fit sort of perfectly - she's kind of a power mom (doctor in private practice), has a pregnant teen, and a Down Syndrome baby coming. She felt so patriotic about her connection to Sarah Palin that she actually voted for her first time since we moved to the country 18 yrs ago. GO U.S.A!!! AND GOD BLESS THE PALIN FAMILY!!!
12oh my.
13This shocks me more than the initial story did...that its being brought up again.
So over it, we have plenty of hot topics out in the world right NOW, can we cover that instead of this sensationalist hooey? I wasn't a Palin fan by any means (that's putting it mildly but I am trying to be civil), but "that dog died months ago", so to speak.
Disclaimer:
"that dog" - that topic.
"died" - got old.
"months ago" - months ago.
Euphemistically yours,

but shadow this time its brought to you by AT&T!! its different right?
15Dear god.
16I'm so glad I installed an add-on that blocks all the ads on web pages.
17Anna, on one hand - I'm really glad things are working out for you; but on the other, are you saying that celebs doing it made it okay?
18A girl pregnant at 17 years old?! Oh my lord! Has this ever happened before?!
Get over it. I actually found it sort-of funny (instead of shocking) that she was pregnant since her mother was preaching abstinence only. Yeah, that worked out well. I do feel bad for Bristol & Levy since their "supposed" to be getting married. It will become just another forced marriage and after a few years a divorce will follow.
19Yeah, it's hilarious that a 17 year old girl is pregnant because you disagree with her mom's political opinions.
