Biggest Headlines of 2008: Terrorist Siege in Mumbai
Militants Targeted Popular Tourist Spots
The city of Mumbai was rocked by multiple coordinated terrorist attacks by Islamist militants on Nov. 26 that targeted locations popular with foreigners.
The Taj Mahal Palace & Tower Hotel (pictured here) was one of a handful of hotels targeted in the armed siege. Officials declared the siege at the hotel over after the remaining militants were killed when commandos stormed the building. The hotel is set to be reopened this month, but is still clouded by the tragic attack — gunmen took scores of guests hostage and battled commandos inside the flagship hotel of Indian conglomerate Tata Group.
