On Nov. 4 we found out that we have at least another four years to make Barack Obama memories, but I'm sure some of the all time best will come from this year. Before he beat Hillary Clinton for the nomination, Barack delivered a compelling speech in Philadelphia addressing the recurrence of questions about Jeremiah Wright, as well as the effect of race on his candidacy. After locking up the presumptive-nomination Obama launched a world tour, stopping in Germany to speak before tens of thousands of Berliners.
In the week before the Democratic National Convention in Denver, Barack had supporters waiting by their cell phones for a text message about his choice for VP. We finally found it was none other than gaffe-machine Joe Biden, who would soon join Obama on stage after his rock-star sized acceptance speech before thousands at Invesco Field. After a slump in the polls Obama fought back and used his debate performances to hold his lead. Finally, on Nov. 4 he gave a somber victory speech, but one that included the triumphant proclamation that change had come to America.
Obama capped off his eventful year (to say the least) by unveiling his administration's team of rivals, including rival, and now cabinet member, no. 1 Hillary Clinton. Since we already asked you about your favorite John McCain moment in our roundup of the best stories of 2008, tell me which Obama moment did you like the best!

His speech on race in Philadelphia was amazing, I have a feeling someday my kids will be reading it in school.
1The race speech AND the announcement that his girls will get their puppy.
2I didn't really care for any of the moments in the poll, but I agree with Stephley that the puppy announcement was pretty cute. If anybody was looking for my soft spot, there it is.
3If they wanted a dog, why didn't they already have one? It's all silly showmanship.
4The speech on race. I thought it was brilliant. Stephley I agree, the puppy annoucement was a really cute moment.
5organicsugr: in the 60 minutes interview they said they haven't gotten the dog yet because there going to wait until they are settled in the white house first. that's the deal they made with their daughters. it's not some political ploy.
6I just like how he says Puppy. Puppaay.
7lol, he does say puppaay like that, I never noticed...
Its weird, I don't remember much from the speech on race.
My favorite Obama moment was his speech at the DNC in 2004 (not 08) but I was amazed by him in that speech.
For this year, I loved seeing him in person when he made the comments about what America is about and how the son of an African man whose grandfather was a domestic servant to the British and who has a strange name can grow up to maybe become the president of the United States - I get that it's just a speech, but there is so much truth there that it gives you the greatest feeling of pride in the country.
8The Berlin speech, I think.
9I really liked his speech on race. Not only was it incredibly nuanced and honest, it pointed out how majorities and minorities all have so much in common that we should be working on together.
10His election night speech brought tears to my eyes- It was just so excellent and perfect for the entire town of the election and the feeling in America- God, I just loved every minute of it.
11I thought his speech in Berlin was very good and the city is very representative of what his project is about - change.
12I liked the victory night speech, and the fact that it was happening in my city made it that much more exciting.
13em nice avi!! My boyfriend was at Grant Park during that speech and he said it was absolutely amazing to be there in person.
14em who is that on your avi??
looks like alejandro sanz!
I loved the speech on election day of course. I cried...the puppy part was the cutest!
15Thanks mydiadem!
momma--it's Colin Firth from "Love, Actually" (and tons of other movies, of course, but that's one of my favorites).
Although I do like me some Alejandro Sanz, too...
16Even though being there for his election speech was a phenomenal experience I chose the last one. He's a really good orator, we all know that. But, with his assembling the cabinet, we get our first glance at what kind of president he's really going to be. I have to say I've been extremely impressed with who he's chosen. Even my parents (both of them McCain voters) have come around to him due to who he's picked and the wisdom that he's shown thus far.
17Just thinking about his victory speech gives me chills.
18HF - my dad too...I don't know if he secretly loves Obama and just could not bring him self to admit it and vote for him, but he's using a lot of excuses to call him "a decent guy, seems to know what he's doing."
em - I LOVE Colin Firth!
19zeze that is almost the EXACT comment that my dad made. LOL
20HF, your dad loves Colin Firth?
21I agree with AdorkableFae.
22Dancing on Ellen! No contest.
23Dancing on Ellen. No contest.
24Love it! My vote is for dancing on Ellen
26Ohh forgot the dancing on Ellen! Yup I vote that too then.
Random comment - Obama has good teeth for a smoker!
27me 2! I love that clip!
28None of these moments for me. It all seems so orchestrated and fake to me. Not just him but all politics, it's all talk and once elections are over nothing changes (for the better).
29Yep! Def dancing on Ellen
30I'm slamming down a vote for the Dancing on Ellen!!
Nice post, True Song!
