If you could create a soundtrack of your life, you'd probably have happy music, sad music, and music for every mood in between. Though a song can't make the pain of a breakup go away, it sure can help lift your spirits, or allow you to give into your blues, if that's the path you want to take. As part of my Best of 2008 coverage, I asked you to tell me your favorite breakup song of the year, so I'm back to round up my favorites that I found helpful, too. Check out my top five picks below:

"Apologize" — One Republic
“Single Ladies (Put a Ring on It)” — Beyonce
"Hot n Cold" — Katy Perry
"Better in Time" — Leona Lewis
"White Horse" — Taylor Swift

Emilio Pucci
Last two I love love love. I am so sick of Beyonce.
1So What by Pink is also a fan fav
2yay my two faves made it - Leona and Beyonce... don't live Beyonce but that song is great for working out, post-breakup.
3*love
4I've been listening to the top 4. Haven't really listened to Taylor Swift much.
5None of those
6"Love Lockdown" by Kanye West.
7I also like Beyonce. As annoying as that song gets, for some reason I always find myself dancing to it.
And "So What" by Pink gets a vote from me as well.
Hot 'N Cold. My gf and I even sang it in the car together. Ironic huh?
8haha i had a breakup this year, these were my token moping songs:
regina spektor - bartender
regina spektor - the flowers
ben harper - alone
atmosphere - f'@k you lucy
lily allen - littlest things
juliette & the licks - by the heat of your light
9(^^^ most depressing song ever by the way)
love them all except Beyonce! How did that crappy song make the list???
10Put it Down by Mike Doughty...totally helped me with my breakup!
11I dont really like Beyonce, but "If I were a Boy" is another good breakup song. Also, Apologize wasnt released in 2008. :/ But if we're going that route. Seventy times 7 by Brand New is the BEST breakup song! Some of the lyrics go "dont apologize I hope you choke and die" and "so have another drink and drive yourself home, I hope theres ice on all the roads and you can think of me when you forget your seatbelt and again when your head goes through the windshield" lol...it makes me feel so much better to turn this song on full blast and scream along with it!
12Rascall Flatts - What hurts the most
When was that released? I have no idea. Cascada did a version of it this year.
13ur so gay by katy perry is an awesome break up song!
14I agree with you jcowgirlhottie, I LOVEEE that song! Haha. Also Break Apart Her Heart by Good Charlotte, but I dunno what year it was released.
