Anti-Islamic insults desecrated at least 500 tombstones of Muslim soldiers in France's largest military cemetery. The racist graffiti attack took place on the eve of today's Islamic Eid al-Adha festival (the festival of sacrifice), a day when Muslims visit the graves of loved ones. Each grave was marked with either a swastika, or a letter that helped spell out derogatory messages.

Many of the soldiers whose memories were affronted died fighting for France during the battles of World War I, but their resting place has battled racist attacks during recent times. This is the third attack directed toward Muslims on this site in the last two years.
Considering France has Europe's largest Muslim population, do you think these types of hostile actions will increase or decrease?

wow thats terrible..
1Ugh.
2i think the headline should say "graffitied", not gratified.... right?
3Thanks YY. Silly spell check.
4That is so awful. How can people be so hateful? It must be an awful life.
5I said awful twice...
6thats how awful it is mich..
7WOW!
Soldiers? People fighting for your freedom, safety, and rights!
France is one of the most racist and hypocritical countries of the western world - this incident is just another to the list.
The government can pretend to be shocked and disgusted by this, but it is their racist policies that lead to this.
I wish that they would just stop pretending to be so accepting and fair minded and spare us all, don't let minorities in, don't let jews or Muslims in, and don't give citizenship to anyone who doesn't speak french as a first language - that way we can avoid all their BS laws.
8That is very sad. Hate is so ugly.
9It is awful awful. I imagine this kind of hostility will continue until we learn to listen to and respect each other.
10Shocking and disgusting! Why do people so waste their time and energy on such ugly hate?
11Absolutely disgusting. Those gravemarkers are beautiful, though.
12ohh my, people have no respect. This is just sad.
13Disgusting. I wonder what's wrong with people sometimes.
14this is tragic, those who did this should be publicly humiliated.
15This is terrible. I just hope there aren't any over-the-top retaliations.
16Yea that's pretty terrible. Not. Cool.
17This is awful, sad, disrespectful, etc, etc, etc... I just can't come up with enough words to describe this.
18That's beyond disgusting. Something is really wrong in this country right now.
Sadly, i don't think this is getting out of nowhere. The situation between religious communities is very tense lately here. By the way the governement is acting, it's probably not gonna get any better
19this is really sad and disgusting. :{
zeze, your comments could be considered racist themselves. it isn't france that did this, it was a group of racists in france. i'm not saying that you are being racist yourself, but generalizing like that can be considered racist.
20This is definitely a horrible act. I hope they are able to remove the graffiti without harming the headstones.
21This kind of crap disgusts me.
22Very, very juvenile.
23otaku - I should clarify, I was not referring to "French people" like the US, and everywhere else, there are good and bad, accepting and hateful people.
I was referring to France's (what I consider) racist policies that are hypocritical and create hate within people - such as forcing Muslim women and Jewish men to either go to private school, drop out, or not freely follow their religion. Or their policies in denying citizenship to people of different lifestyles because they are not "french enough."
Imo, these policies, along with many others, allow hate to expand and become acceptable. If wearing a head scarf is bad by national policy (which how it is seen when laws prohibit it) then the people doing it become bad and then stupid people act on that notion and the end result is actions like this.
24Zeze, I'm glad you clarified! I was a little offended by the original comment as well, but I see what you mean now. And I definitely agree.
25Ya, I was power-typing (hehe) once I reread it I saw I wasn't making the point I meant to make.
sorry...
26zeze, thank you for clarifying. i definitely know how it feels to type in the heat of the moment. it's nice though, that we have a community where we can give opinions, ask about others opinions and clarify everything as well. :}
27this is so disrespectful.
28Awful.
29Disgusting. Hatred, unfortunately, really has no limits.
30That's horrid. I'd like to think this is the work of a handful of neo-nazis but I know better. Lepen and his party are huge there and this is the result.
31I have no words. Just disappointment.
I just love the news these days.
32I hope they catch the people who did this and they get some jail time. Respect is something that is not taught much anymore.
