Yesterday on Meet the Press President-elect Barack Obama promised to make the White House a symbol of everyday Americans during his presidency. He explained: "Part of what we want to do is to open up the White House and remind people this is the people's house." Obama plans to invite artists and scientists on a regular basis, in an attempt to inspire national character.

Some other highlights from Obama's interview include:
- On culture: [I'm] "thinking about the diversity of our culture and inviting jazz musicians and classical musicians and poetry readings in the White House so that once again we appreciate this incredible tapestry that's America."
- On the economy: The recession “is a big problem, and it’s going to get worse. . . The key for us is making sure that we jump-start that economy in a way that doesn't just deal with the short term, doesn't just create jobs immediately, but also puts us on a glide path for long-term sustainable economic growth, and that's why I spoke in my radio address on Saturday about the importance of investing in the largest infrastructure program, in roads and bridges and other traditional infrastructure since the building of the Federal Highway System in the 1950s."
To find out what Obama had to say about education and Iran, read more.
- On education: "Yes, we're going to have an education policy; yes, we're going to be putting more money into school construction. But ultimately we want to talk about parents reading to their kids. We want to invite kids from local schools into the White House."
- On Iran: "We need to ratchet up tough but direct diplomacy with Iran, making very clear to them that their development of nuclear weapons would be unacceptable . . . and present a set of carrots and sticks in changing their calculus about how they want to operate. In terms of carrots, I think that we can provide economic incentives that would be helpful to a country that, despite being a net oil producer, is under enormous strain, huge inflation, a lot of unemployment problems there."

i watched Scream Bloody Murder on CNN on Saturday and I pray that Obama makes the right moral choices, not ones based on political expediency.

At least he's not inviting rappers to the house like many people thought..
2I don't think there were any surprises - and it was really comforting to hear someone offering thoughtout leadership.
3Isn't the Veteran's Administration announcement worth mentioning?
No real surprises for me...
4"At least he's not inviting rappers to the house like many people thought..
"
Haha could you imagine, "From the windooooow, to the walls, till the sweat drip down my balls, till all these b*tches crawl..."
5Barack and Michelle breaking it down.
especially that song?!! I think that sight would sure enough give some people heart attacks!!
6Jessie, you're a fool. That would be funny.
7I'm surprised the Veteran's Administration announcement wasn't made yet, I know it's still early where the ladies are at.
8Oh God and I could see Bill Clinton in there to as the MC, behind the mic, surrounded by honeys...
Okay I'm going to stop now...it's too early in the morning.
9OMG, Jessie
Now I'm thinking about that segment from Chris Rock's "Never Scared" where he
talks about that song. Thanks for the much-needed laugh this morning
10I loved that Chris Rock skit! HA!!!!
I think these sound like great policy ideas.
11I love when the day starts out with laughter at a -2 wind chill.
12bellaressa- it is freezing!! I came in all grumpy.
13Geeb, I got overheated on the bus this morning on the way to work b/c of my layers but other than that it was okay. The walk was a good brisk walk and I move quickly which is always the key. It's also timing your public transportation and warming the car without you being in it.
14I'm actually a bit surprised that when he talked about infrastructure he didn't mention light rail. I think California is on the right track with it's plans to develop new fast passenger railroads, mag lev or otherwise, and I think the entire country should consider doing the same. It's a large development cost up front but it is better environmentally and over the long term.
15Public transit! That would be great to see, it was announced today ridership is up 6.5% across the country.
16I love the light rail! Fast, easy, and better for the enviroment.
17I truly hope, in his effort to make the White House more accessible and open to diversity, that he takes into account both conservative and liberal views.
18But I hope he acts on the liberal views.
19...ok, I am not sure if my imagination is making this up, but I swear I remember one of his rallies when he was running against Hillary still the song blasting in the background was "I have 99 problems but a B**** ain't one" the clean version of course.
20its a new renaissance white house, enlightened and full of hope and dreams........and candy coated rainbows ........and jazz musicians....
