I've heard of sleepwalking, but sleep sex? Now that's a new one! It's also referred to as sexomnia
and it's classified as a sleep disorder. People that suffer from sexsomnia wake up in the morning and have absolutely no recollection of what happened while they snoozed.
At this time scientists aren't sure what causes sexsomnia, but they think it may have to do with genetics, certain medications, or stress. They do know that sexsomnia rages in severity: some victims just moan and grope while others engage in sexual activity with themselves or with the person in bed with them. Some become violent and dangerous, and may even sexually assault people against their will.
Sexsomnia is a rare disorder, but it's definitely real. It's a type of parasomnia — any behavior typically disrupts sleep. Some examples are talking, walking, eating, or driving in your sleep. Parasomnia is common in kids, but as low as three to six percent of adults continue the behavior. Since sexsomnia is chronic, treatment is essential. Medication, therapy, and lifestyle changes where stress and alcohol are avoided can help prevent episodes.
Pretty interesting, huh? Do you know anyone that's suffered from sexsomnia?

I remember the episode on House with this issue... hahaha
1Wow. What next? And I wish I did.
2Damn please don't let my Hubby know about this.
3wow.
4interesting...i've never heard of this
5My fiance is definitely guilty of groping me in his sleep on occasion. He has absolutely no recollection of it the next morning! I'll be sure to tell him about this.
6My boyfriend has done this a few times, but usually he was intoxicated, and I think it was more about being drunk than having a serious condition.
7I don't think I've ever met any one with this disorder, and I'm kind of glad..
LoL Urban chick, I remember that House episode too. and LoL at sexypenguin...maybe he sometimes he does it on purpose
8Actually, my husband and I have woken up in the middle of having sex a few times. (And I'm positive he wasn't just having sex with me while I was sleeping. A few times I woke up before he did).
He definitely gropes be while he's asleep quite often, and I've woken up in the middle of the night with one of my breasts in a vice-grip quite often.
I've found the sex only happens when I wear clothes that are easy on/off. So when I'm not on birth control, I generally try to wear jeans or something like that to bed.
Is it considered sexsomnia if you wake up? It was obviously started while sleeping, and we remember it afterward (because we woke up), but I wonder if we've ever done it without waking up?
And if so, would that mean that both of us have sexsomnia, or just one is, and the other is responsive to it?
9I did have an experience with this....it was pretty disturbing. My ex would grab me in the night and just start- without any signals from me. It was funny at first, but after a couple of times, it just felt wrong. Even when I was very and obviously not into it, he continued. Then, when I confronted him in the morning, he truly and honestly had no recollection. I trust him, and I know he would have never done that in any other situation, but in the moment, it was pretty scary. I was really glad to see this post because I didn't know that it's considered a disorder. At the time, it really freaked me out.
10I have a mild case of it. I researched it long ago with my husband. I didn't know I had it until we were together and he told me I touch myself and moan in my sleep. I didn't really believe him at first until he recorded me in action. Lol. I guess I should have known earlier considering in my single years I'd occasionally and unconsciously take my clothes off if they were loose and easy to take off. I'm just glad I never slept over anywhere or my parents finding out. Lol. My husband and I don't treat it as a disorder. Instead, we choose to be positive about it and I allow him to get kinky with me in my sleep. Often enough, I'm pleasantly awaken by him.
11My boyfriend definitely does this sometimes! I've woken up a number of times to him groping me or something since I'm a light sleeper. So far he's never tried to have sex with me while sleeping (that I can remember), but he does other weird things in his sleep too like waking me up because he had a dream I was dead. It makes for some interesting nights.
12Meike, I have to say I'm pleasantly awoken when it happens also. The articles I read talked about it being dangerous, but my experiences have been quite nice, actually.
13Yes, I remember that House episode! That was pretty funny...
14I can see how this would be dangerous though, such as not using using birth control or disease-prevent contraceptive since the person is not conscious.
15My husband does this, he'll start groping me and rubbing against me, which, not that I mind....but I'd like us to be awake in our love making, thanks.
16Can it happen once and be nothing, or does that indicate that the disorder is present?
17interesting...
18I actually sleep walk and sleep talk, and there have been a few times I have woken up while having sex with the bf.
19haha weird!
20my bf gropes me too sometimes @ night...but no sex!
it could get really scary. i've heard of cases where a guy "accidentally" goes too far and even rapes his partner during sleep, without knowing
i would be really scared if my bf did this. he's way bigger than me, and i'd like to know he's awake and concious when he's trying to get it on!
21I have done a lot of this, but it was only with one guy. It never ever happened with other guys. It was weird though, I would just wake up and we'd be having sex! Not really enjoyable, honestly.
22lol weird ... never been in a situation like this before ...
23Hmm...I'm a chronic sleep walker/talker but my husband hasn't complained about this in particular...haha, or maybe he wouldn't complain!
24lol Colleeninator you have to wear jeans to bed to make sure nothing happens! that's really funny.
Hmm I can see how this would be annoying. In the House episode the woman had a miscarriage and didn't even know about it, since she had no idea she was having sex every night!
I apparently have full conversations in my sleep, and so does my sister. Not just talking - I'll respond to people who ask me questions, although the answers don't necessarily makes sense. Of course in the morning I'll have no recollection.
25my friend told me that this has happened to her before. i wasnt sure whether to believe her or not.
26there are so many things we dont know about sex..we all could use a good sex quiz once in a while.
This one is fun and funny.

My professor talked about sleep sex before so I am aware of this disorder. Im just glad I don't sleep eat.
27sugar_me_sweet: "sleep eat" LOL LOL LOL. Yup, that would be bad, hehe.
My ex would rub up against me sometimes, but nothing more, and he said I was moaning in m sleep just once. I'm ok with that stuff. I think it would scare me to wake up having sex though, or especially if the guy does end up raping you b/c he's out of it and you can't stop him.
28Interesting to hear about all the sexsomniacs... but what I'm scared of is the people who drive in their sleep! OMG!
