Last night on her show, Rachel Maddow described the grueling elimination process conducted to select two lucky turkeys who receive the president's Thanksgiving pardon.
Get Flash to see this player.
The competition begins with 13 turkeys, who then get trained to be comfortable around humans. The two turkeys with the best personalities won George W. Bush's pardon and a first-class trip to Disneyland, where they act as grand marshalls of the Thanksgiving parade and live happily ever after in Disneyland's frontier land.
As for the unlucky losers — you might meet one of the kicked-off turkeys at your local Subway. Watch Rachel break it down, and have a happy Thanksgiving!

Happy Thanksgiving to you and Citizen, Liberty.
1Oh my that is silly...Happy Turkey Eating Day
.
2Okay... I need to be all cranky for a minute. I'm all for light hearted new because there are tons of bad things in the news, but what's the deal with Citizen lately? I mean, where are the articles about the attacks in Mumbai? The financial crisis? Obama saying 'help is on the way' for America?
All I'm saying (and I've noticed others saying it too) is lately Citizen hasn't been very news worth lately.
Okay... that being said, Happy Thanksgiving everyone!
3Maybe you should look a little harder for the stories you want before you complain starangel since ALL of the articles you are looking for have already been posted.
4Is it me, or are we all tired of the "reality" TV? I've yet to see a reality series that had any hint of reality.
5how random was that comment undave?
Also, how morbid is it that they train turkeys to be comfortable around humans and then if they dont have the very best "person"ality they get their heads chopped off and served in sandwiches... how is this a good lesson for children?
6Fallen- thaaanks! I don't expect everyone (or anyone I guess) to be vegetarian, but geez, some of the "traditions" we've adopted regarding turkeys at Thanksgiving are really messed up, mostly the turkey "pardon" just gets my blood boiling.
You want a thanksgiving turkey tradition? Go visit your local factory farm and pick out your turkey! Then as a family you could slaughter and de-feather it! Or, keep a nice, safe psychological distance from the whole gruesome thing by watching the turkey pardon on tv, and picking up your shrink-wrapped meal at the local grocery store. Whatevs.
Starangel: Just don't bother commenting on the posts that don't interest you. If you are more interested in the attacks in Mumbai, comment there.
7Fallen - I don't think it's random at all. The title of the thread is "Battle For Turkey Pardon Would Make Great Reality TV" and I was commenting that reality TV isn't anything like reality.
8how random is it to comment on someones random comment?
9It's very random, but only if the corresponding random reply has nothing whatsoever to do with the previous random comment.
