Everything about this video produced to give thanks for Sarah Palin sounded legitimate, and then I watched it. And everything — save the part about the troops — looks like a parody that Tina Fey will jump into at any second.
Yet it all checks out. It will air on cable station across the US this weekend. A conservative group called Our Country Deserves Better claims to have paid for and created the ad as a counterattack to the media bashing thrown her way. But the conspirator in me says it cannot be real. Or can it?

We had this debate at my house when we first saw the ad. I think it's real and sad.
1That was the best thing I've seen all day!
Thank YOU, Sarah Palin!
2
I needed that today! Thanks!
3I thought it was a joke when I first heard about it. (I spend too much time with sarcastic people - "Thank you, Sarah Palin" doesn't sound sincere when I say it in my head!) But it looks real.
4cause there couldnt possibly be ANYONE out there who actually appreciated her at all.
I admit it was robotic and cheesy at points, but that doesnt make it a fake.
once again a post on here that is severely negative against one side.
5It appears real. When I saw this the other day I thought it was a weird video to make.
6Maybe the woman asking for the ingredients for moose chili at the end gave Citizen doubt.
7CG, come on now, I really dont think this is another post that is one sided - that video was ridiculous, a lot of people couldn't decide it if was something shown on Colbert Report, SNL, or Fox - freakin' moose chili!
Let's not be over-sensitive.
8The last time someone complained about Citizen being biased against one side, I went and counted and the posts actually were slightly in favor of the whiner's side.
9The moose chili did it for me, personally, and the dude saying "turkey...OR MOOSE!" also gave me a "huh?" vibe. I don't doubt that some people like Palin at all.
10go count steph, this whiner is waiting.
11I love, love, love Sarah Palin. I think she is the realist person that has hit the political landscape in a long time!
12I counted last time.
13Isnt being "real" in politics a relative term now, relative to what norms you consider real.
Obama, Clinton, or Biden are probably real to people who share similarities to their lives too - while Palin's folksy style might resemble a country-themed sitcom instead of what real people are like.
14No what I meant by real is not putting on an act just to get elected. Whether you like her or not, she didn't change who SHE was
15"Palin's folksy style might resemble a country-themed sitcom " keep on with the bashing....
16Steph, the favor of the article is strictly your opinion just as much as you are saying it is someone else's.
17To a point that's true GS.
18But then how can Citizen or Liberty possibly try and please everyone unless we somehow submit words, phrases and topics that we find offensive? How can they please people who may be determined to take offense?
Maybe everyone should stick to the facts of the post and not complain about the intent or a political agenda - because as you say, that's just opinion.
It's to the point where I'm even tired of complaining about how tired I am of people complaining about bias on the site.
It's a cheesy freaking ad. If it had been posted as "Check out this awesome ad about Sarah Palin!" a bunch of people would have commented that it looks almost fake. Whether mentioning moose and Palin in the same sentence is funny is not a partisan issue.
19As long as people love to point out their observations(i.e. how biased Liberty is, for example), I'd like to point out one of my own.
Nearly every single time stephley makes a post, I could put money on it and I'd rarely lose, some people can't help but make it their duty to lambaste her. I must say that she handles it very well and is always dignified in her responses. Kudos to you, steph. You're a gem, really.
20Or, you just let people say what they want to say, the way you are saying they should?
21Indie, if you are referring to me, you obviously have not been reading this blog lately.
22>No what I meant by real is not putting on an act just to get elected. Whether you like her or not, she didn't change who SHE was
Oh, my. That is very, very untrue. She folksied it up like crazy. Did you watch the video of the gubernatorial debates in Alaska? Not a golly, shucks, doggoneit to be found. And no winking. And she pronounced the g's at the end of words! She dumbed herself down for the campaign. She's the Jessica Simpson of politics.
23Ugh. Comment flagged.
>No what I meant by real is not putting on an act just to get elected. Whether you like her or not, she didn't change who SHE was
Not true. She folksied herself up and dumbed herself down to make herself more appealing. Watch the video of her gubernatorial debate. She pronounced all her g's. No winking. And not a single shucks, doggoneit, or youbetcha to be found.
24All a ruse to play up to the people who want to vote someone into high office who is a regular ol' Joe.
Six-pack, that is.
GS: What did I miss? Do share.
25I don't understand comment 21.
26What's not to understand? You say, let Liberty and Citizen say what they want and don't "whine". Then you, "whine" about the whiners. When in reality, everyone is doing the same thing.
27Who's whining about whining? Come on...now you're just making things up.
28Indie, I'm not going to fight with you.
29Dammit.
Now I have no use for these gosh-darn boxin' gloves. *throws them away*
30I'm whining about the whiners. It's anoooooyyyinnnng.
31OFF WITH YOUR HEAD!
32Hainan - maybe you should reread my comment more slowly, I was not bashing anyone - I said that there are two sides to the "real" argument, what comes off as real to you comes off as fake folksiness to someone else, what comes off as elitist or "political fakeness" to you, might come off as real and honest to someone else who shares similarities with that candidate.
Example: a college professor might think Obama is very real, while Palin is nothing more than a political gimmick playing a role and a farmer might see Plain as real and Obama as slick talking BSer - not bashing - just pointing out that "real" is more about what ppl think is real.
As for saying that in real life she is is exactly like she was on the campaign trail, I will have to respectfully disagree - I tend to think she was playing a part just like all the other candidates, if not more than them, based on what I have seen from Obama, McCain, Biden before and after they ran for president. IMO she was the fakest, and next to her Joe Biden.
33I didn't whine, I proposed that people stop because there's no pleasing all of us at the same time.
34As an aside, whining is probably what I do best. Just not here - it's soooo much better to do it in person so that you can see the pain it's inflicting.
"Just not here - it's soooo much better to do it in person so that you can see the pain it's inflicting."
I love that!
35maybe a couple of you could use some sleep
36Doggonnit, this video is hilarious!
37I swear, Hainan, you're psychic. I'm not even kidding.
38Some of us could also use a reality check and a grammar lesson.
39wow...If that video is true thats pretty sad!
The video that TS put up is crazzzy!
40em- to whom are you referring?
41If I am using improper grammar, please let me know so I can learn and correct it (and no I am not joking)
Well for starters, sentences end with periods.
42(And no, I am not joking. They really do!)
43That video makes me sad a woman...
The fact that she had to play up the "hockeymom in the nice heels and a cute wink" and dim down actual knowledge of anything in order to get support is disappointing, especially after seeing people call Hillary a man or manly for playing up her intelligence over her wardrobe.
44ts............. is that enough? Seeing as I wasn't asking you (period)
45Also, Em said grammar, not punctuation. They are different.(And no I'm not joking!)
If you only wanted to direct your comment to one person, I'd suggest using a PM. When you post on a public message board, sometimes other people will respond.
46I am new to all of this. I don't even know how to send a PM. And in my defense, you were rather snarky.
47I'd tend to think she is more folksy in real life, and she straightens up and acts more professional when she needs to. She went from Idaho to Alaska. That's going from rural to more rural. There's not much room for easternizing there. Not that it's a bad thing, it's a good thing for the "real America" to which she alluded.
I've heard Barack Obama sound more Black if he was addressing a mostly Black crowd. He'd switch it up based on audience. If Palin folksied it up (or let her hair down as I suspect), at least she was consistant with it.
48And this video seems pretty real and sincere to me. Not everybody hates her as much as liberal women do. She's kept McCain from losing by 10-15 points. You can't wish that away with your disdain.
49Liberal women aren't the only ones who 'dislike' Palin.
