Thank goodness for TiVo! Just like many of you probably did, I raced home yesterday to catch Brad Pitt on Oprah. I wasn't digging his mustache per se, but my ears perked up when I heard him talk. When did he get that accent? I've always been a sucker for a man with a foreign accent, but Brad's southern drawl definitely piqued my interest. Are you with me on this one? Are men with accents a turn-on or a turn-off?

turn ON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
1My boyfriend doesnt have an accent but he is learning spanish for me hehe so he'll have that american accent I guess
I think it can depend on the accent too tho.
2Most foreign accents are super sexy to me, but a lot of regional accents turn me WAY off, including any type of southern draw, Minnesota, New York (esp Long Island), New Jersey, etc. -- which is really ironic because I am from NJ, but oddly, and thankfully, don't have an accent.
3except in certain circumstances, it's a turn on
4some countries, not so much
I agree with SOnya Ina.... regional accents from America is sooo annoying.... I have a really generic news caster voice and I am from Georgia.
5A lot of men complained to me that I had lost my French accent after a few years in New York. I did my best, but faking it felt really awkward and stupid! So I don't know if it's because I'm a foreigner, or because I'm a foreigner who worked hard on losing her accent, or because I love the song of American language, but I have never found accents sexy - unless of course you're talking about Benicio Del Toro's. God. That Man. When he speaks, I want to take off my clothes.
6It depend on the accent..
Where you are from and where you are going.
Anyone who travels overseas knows that regional accents from the US are considered so hott..
7Just like those accents from overseas, are loved so much here.
American regional accents are a turn-off for me (I live in Baltimore and oh.my.god how do you even make vowels sound like that??), but foreign accents are a turn-on.
8Turn on..but it depends on the accent
I am sucker for
French or Quebecois accents...
9My hubby is from Ukraine and his accent has been fading and fading. But he still says cute things like not including "a" or "the" and other eccentric things that some ESL people do.
It's endearing.
10like everyone else said, it definitely depends. being from texas, I don't dig southern accents, but I love british accents. and harsher languages like german or russian just sound scary to me.
11oh, but I should clarify. a celebrity who just picks up some random accent, is always a turn-off.
12Love it!!! Turn on!!!
13or an accent like Apu on the Simpsons...it's not a romantic language, hence the accent isn't that sexy either
but parisian and spanish are nice!
14CYL, ew @ Quebecois!!! John Chretien? Seriously?? hahaha
My boyfriend has a thick Jamaican accent and it totally makes me melt.... mmmmmmm I love accents. Mostly british, southern and of course Jamaican
15It really depends on the accent. I'm really sensitive to how people speak; some accents sound beautiful, and others just really annoy me aurally.
16It's a turn-on for me (most of the time), I love most foreign accents but regional accents annoy me. My favorite accents are British (English to be specific), Scottish, Irish, Australian, French, Spanish, Italian, etc. I hate Southern accents, Bostonian accents, New Jersey accents, etc.
17Oh no, I'm definitely not a fan of accents. Southern, European, anything. Idk why either. Especially when David Beckham speaks...it just KILLS me.
18I like when little kids have accents though...too cute. Especially British.
19NO i dont like accents. i mean its not a turn on. some men sound sexy i guess cuz they are sexy i dunno.
20but can i rant about brad pitt for a little?? why is he so "blekh"? he really came off as cocky and just an overall prick in that interview. ew. wtf.
I'm a sucker for a Midwestern US accent.
And I have a thing for the New England accent.
As for my own trashy Jersey accent? Hasn't caused any problems yet.
21Oprah is Team Aniston, hence why Angelina is never on the show
22so i can imagine Brad and she don't have the best relationship either
I think my fiance's french accent is defi a turn-on
. It's not that creepy-old-man,
old-school french accent, it's a mix of him trying really hard to speak american english w/o an accent and retaining that bit of his natural accent that he'll always have
23It definetly depends on the accent..german? no thanks!
24I thought it was funny how people used to tell me that New Jerseyans said "Joisey" -- which is strictly a QUEENS, thing...and I have never said it in my life. I am from NJ, and have been told it's a nicer version of the New York accent. I live in Georgia now, where people sound...wow. They comment on mine, I comment on theirs.
I dislike Georgia accents, always have. Can't stand West Virginia, Massachusetts (esp. Boston), Michigan, Wisconsin. They are all horrendous to me.
As for foreign accents -- a huge, huge turn OFF. I know I am like one of the few who hate them...but wow, they really annoy me. Accents in general annoy me. Thank God I can't hear myself speak or I'd have a coronary.
25Yes, yes, yes! My long-distance crush has a beautiful Belizean lilt. Sigh...
26Brad Pitt is from Oklahoma and grew up in Missouri, so I don't think he "picked up a random accent" I think it is more the case of falling back to how he originally may have spoke.
27Now Missouri is considered the South? Geez!
28I don't know Syako, I'm from the west coast...everything in the middle is a blur. I can't distinguish midwest well from south. I thought they had accents in St. Louis. If I'm wrong then I'm wrong, sor-ry.
29Shoot, there are people in southern Illinois (my home state) with southern-sounding accents. And Kentucky's right south of us as well.
30Can't distinguish midwestern from southern? WOW.
Well it's not the South in my book. Neither is Illinois. And some people here in Maryland even think their state is the south. GEEZ!
31Thanks Jude
32No prob, Jessie.
Sy, I was just saying that some people in southern Illinois have a southern accent. I personally don't consider Illinois "the South," which is actually why I found it odd to hear those accents
Maybe a lot of people just happened to move from the South up to southern
Illinois.
33People in Philly have a southern accent i swear..it is strange to me, my ex did and my roomie does and their native philadelphians. Now their family is originally from the south though but I still find it strange
34I LOVE a bostonian accent. I have no idea why, drives me crazy. Its the only one though. But I DO love australian and scottish accents otherwise.
35Sy, I think Maryland is the south.
The whole crossing the Mason-Dixon line always did it for me.
But of course, I'm a Northeastern elitist.
36YUCK!
If I had my way, only the states that touched the Gulf could be considered
Southern.
37Depends on the accent. I love, love, LOVE British, Scottish, Irish and Australian accents. I also dig Dutch and French accents. Not so big on Italian accents.
38I love southern accents on guys. It just make an already hot guy so much sexier!
39I have a thing for Spanish, Italian and especially Australian accents.
I've heard some of you dissing NJ/NY accents and I must say - it's a HUGE turn on for me
I'm from the Garden State and found most of my childhood crushes to be on little Italian boys with thick Jersey accents.
Sue me.
40Technically, MD is in the south. However, the difference between the MD and the VA accents are amazing, considering the proximity.
41PS - I don't have an accent anymore, but if I get in a heated conversation or have spent some time back in the area...it comes out quite quickly.
42My mom (native New Yorker) and I (native Jersey girl) have heated discussions about who has the classier accent all the time...
43me too tidal wave! My sister still has a heavy NY accent but my accent only come on when im highly pissed and/or drunk or after spending some time back home with my fam
English is my second language too but I dont have an accent when I
speak it, except I REALLY mess up so words
44Soooo sexy! My husband has 2 accents- French and Italian! His english is perfect, but his strange accent is superhot! When we first met, I would replay his phone messages 10 times just to hear the way he says my name! It's funny, too- I live in Italy now and have learned Italian and people always comment on how nice my accent is when I speak their language! (I'm Canadian). I guess for them it's like the French or British accent is for us in North America!
45all the guys i knew in america that had accents were sl*ts
46By the way, it's not a Southern D-R-A-W, its a Southern D-R-A-W-L. Either way, I love all accents, foreign or American (except Northeastern ones...I hate those).
47Marni - I love when you start talking with the accent and don't realize you're doing it until someone brings it to your attention
"Oh no, here she goes...She's on a roll people, give her some room!"
48SERIOUSLY!!!
49my boy and best friends are like o no..there goes the Bronx in her lol
For me, it depends on the time and place I hear the accent, rather than the accent itself. At work I have international responsibilities and have to talk to people with many different nationalities all the time. Trust me, hearing different accents in a board room or conference call is not a turn on. I spend most of my time trying to understand what they are saying. So unfortunately, every time I hear somebody talk with an accent, I am reminded of work and lose all interest.
