I bet most of you don't like to think about your parents having sex, but what about your grandparents? Even if the thought makes you cringe, past research shows that men and women up into their '80s are still getting it on! A recent article on MSNBC touches upon this topic.
Nursing home sex has been taboo for quite some time now but experts want to lift that stigma and researchers are finding ways to educate their staff and provide the elderly with privacy so they can satisfy their sexual needs. As more baby boomers are shacking up in nursing homes with their 1950s and '60s attitudes about sex, it's no wonder this is of some concern.
Since the elderly in nursing homes need special care, safety is of course the first priority, but being able to feel intimacy, regardless of age, has proven to be just as important. Do you agree with this new directive to get the staff talking and asking questions about sex in nursing homes?

, nursing homes should get on top of providing education and
safety advice for sex after a certain age. You don't stop being a sexual being after a certain age and many elderly people are very lonely with their families far a way and widowhood common
and even if no sex is had intimacy might be nice. They should get the privacy they want, within safety reason.

6OH lord Grandpa is gona break his hip while thrusting into Myrtle..... I mean I hope when I'm 80 I'm still getting it on like a champ. So I respect that these people are adults... more adult than any of us here, so let them get it on... even people in prison have conjugal visits.

8this is actually a big issue in care facilities for those with some mental impairment. they have "sexual rights" and the care facilities have to tread a fine line as to when it's appropriate and when one or both of the parties are not able to truly give consent.
those living in a facility should have the least restrictive environment in all areas, including sexuality.
9Although I wouldn't want to hear about it,I think it would be a good idea. But I think they should also get safety precautions from staff, you don't want them breaking something important..try explaining that to the family.

13I don't find this cringe-worthy at all! i happen to know that my grandparents still do it and I think it's fine. I can't imagine not having sex anymore so why should nana and poppa go through the same?

17More power to them! I always dread the day I'll have to give up my heels and whips but the fiance says I won't have to heehee. My only real concern for them is health really but I personally wouldn't mind injury or death by sex.

19i actually work in nursing home and yes, we do have a couple who are married and share a room together. it is a known fact among all of us aides that you DO NOT go into their room w/o knocking and listening for a "come in" first. the husband made it very clear when they moved in to do this because "you never know what we'll be doing!"

21RockandRepublic, I remember that too - there was a nursing home somewhere where practically all the residents passed around an STD. Definitely points toward a need for openness and education. But I love the idea that we can all keep doing it into our 80's!

24i don't get why the West would want their elderly in nursing homes..here in the East, as long as we're financially OK, we take care of our elderly (plus taking care of the kids' needs, etc etc) until they rest in peace..
anyway, wow. never heard of that before..hmm why not?
