I think the Supreme Court ruling that the Navy doesn't have to respect any kind of environmental restrictions is also a "top story" but that might just be me.
I want to be shocked by the bailout story, but I just can't get there when I'm not surprised.
1Of course that guy was lying about Palin. duh.
2The bailout problems don't surprise me. Congress could care less about overseeing the bailout bill. I'm afraid we are going to be in this mess for a while... especially considering that the government finally acknowledged we are in a ression once the unemployment rate hit 6.5%.
I remember when the story about that Austrian guy broke. That is one sick, sick man. I'm glad he's getting charged with murder for the baby's death. Too bad Austria doesn't have a death penalty.
3MSNBC such a reliable news source when they post that kind of crap.... the writer and editor should be fired for not making sure the story was true... what can you trust from them.... And this just exposes them for who they are left wing propaganda....
4and this bailout crap is 25% of our gross national product... why are people ok with that... but we spend too much on a war, we could be giving that money to poor people, instead your democrat house and senate decide to give 1/4 of our GNP with no oversight AND they want to bailout the auto industry as well... Pelosi is an idiot, and the people of the united states just chose 2 of the most liberal senators to lead our country. How much more of our money are they going to throw away?
5"The hoax was limited to the identity of the source in the story about Palin _ not the Fox News story itself."
The hoax isn't THE Palin story. He was lying about being the source that leaked it to Fox news. Fox originally reported the Palin story, not MSNBC. MSNBC is retracting their report that Eisenstadt was the source behind it. The real source has not come forward.
6The bailout mess is no surprise, incredibly aggravating since the writing was on the wall before the ink was dry, but not surprising. How can the citizens of this country be encouraged to live within their means and stay out of debt when our own government is trillions of dollars in debt.
What happened to leading by a good example?
7'instead your democrat house and senate decide '
I was totally with you until that line! Lots of republicans voted for this bailout as well, the bailout that was designed by a Republican Bush administration and a Republican appointed Treasury Secretary. This wasn't a partisan thing, no matter how much you as a republican disagreed with the choices your representatives and leader made. Just wanted to clear that up.
I just read an article in the Washington Post about how EU countries (especially Ireland, Spain, and Germany) are going to be much harder hit in this recession than the US because though they have different market dynamics, and credit problems, they all have to work under the same currency and central bank.
8"Lots of republicans voted for this bailout as well, the bailout that was designed by a Republican Bush administration and a Republican appointed Treasury Secretary. Well put!
9not my representative!!! That's the only one I voted for, Devin Nunes... I called him both times they voted, and both times he voted no.
10It is a democrat controlled house and senate, that was all I meant. No offense to all of you. And to the Republicans leaders who voted for it, they are not true republicans, including John McCain. The federal government should not have the power to spend our money in that way, that is not their intended purpose
Sorry, to Jude and Mydia, I meant no offense to you
11No worries, Hainan, I didn't see anything to take offense about.
12I don't necessarily disagree with you Hainan, but I just find it odd Republicans keep saying 'they are not true republicans' if someone voted for the bailout, or is pro-choice, or wants to shut down gitmo. Who is to say what a 'true republican' is? Yes, I realize that according to historic republican ideals this bailout seems unrepublican. BUT, this is a new republican party the past 8 years have given the nation, so who is to say what a true republican is nowadays?
13No offense taken at all!
14TS, ditto on being unsurprised about any bailout news.
15Wow, the bailout is being fu$%ed up, shocking.
That man in Austria is one messed up guy. That poor woman must be so screwed up. Just a very sad story.
Can we please stop talking about Palin, please?!
16well, I am speaking of what the republican party stand for... which is a small federal government, leaving a majority of the decision making to the states... one thing many people don't know is that the early leaders of America struggled with whether it was constitutional to even create a federal bank/reserve. Republican party wants a true interpretation of the constitution, then this federal bailout is unconstitutional. Maybe I should find a lawyer and sue the federal government... I just feel like the last 8 years has been bad on the republican party as well and what we truly stand for. I don't think many people know that much about what the republican party stands for. They feel we are greedy and selfish, when in reality we are the more charitable people of the 2 parties (if you want the article I got that info from, you will have to ask and give me a while to find it in my cluttered mess here) and we just don't feel the federal government has the right to spend our tax dollars on charity. We should have the right to dictate who we give charity to as we feel again the constitution does not give the federal government that much power.
17wow sorry about the book i wrote haha
18Hainan-
I remember reading that as well. Here's a link that might do it:

I'm quite down about the bailout, but was happy to read that the credit card industry isn't getting any love. That made me feel slightly better... until I read that Obama is pushing to bailout GM. Oh well.
19Fortunately, government bailouts aren't socialist, because Obama supports them (and he's not a socialist).
20not sure what your post has to do with this organic? no one on this thread said anything about socialism. Thats a whole other argument and I think we shouldn't get into that...
21I was under the impression that the partial nationalization of banks implied socialism. I had to set the record straight.
22it sure as heck leans that way though....
23psst - Hainan... that was his point. Meet organic...
24i'm confused.... is everything organic says sarcasm??? really i am SOOOOO confused by that individual?
25Bush just said the bailout doesn't undermine the free market system, so it must be right! Right?
26diadem-
Ugh. That statement perfectly demonstrates why a lot of conservatives have disowned him.
27Hainan--yes, pretty much
28thanks jude... I have come to realize sarcasm does not translate AT ALL in type... therefore I put(sarcasm) next to what I mean as sarcasm... haha just in case people don't get it..
29I use winkies and smilies a lot to convey that, but I'm sure the tone still gets lost half the time
30Jude, don't pretend you have a sense of humor!
See H, like that!
31
32Ok I don't know how to do all those smileys yet... I'm new to this ... but GS I am totally crackin up ...
33i think that everyone had these grand ideas on what to do with the bailout and things always look good in theory or on paper, but when it comes to taking action, there's always a bit more complication than expected right?
wow - it's a shame that what's happening here affects the entire world and that Germany is now on a downward spiral..
that guy in austria is finally being forced to deal with what he did and i think that it's about time. i really feel for that family and i hope that the right outcome prevails
i hate to say it but if you look back through all my comments on here, i did say that some of the stuff that was being said about palin was just far fetched and not true - and i'm glad that someone's owning up to their lie. palin may not have been everyone's favorite but i think that it was a bit over the top for people to 'go at her' in the manner that they did.
