Before you hit the town tonight, you might want to be prepared. Last weekend I ask you to tell me how you recover from a wild night out and your suggestions were awesome — looks like you've all done this before! In an effort to be more positioned this time around, I've compiled my 10 favorite suggestions for how to avoid a nasty hangover. Check them out below:
- Don't drink the cheap stuff
- Don't drink the sweet stuff
- Don't mix alcohols
- Hydrate before and after a night of drinking
- Eat before, during, and after a night of drinking
Want to see five more tip? Just read more.
- Wash your face and brush your teeth before bed — for some reason it helps
- Sleep
- Sweat it out at the gym the next day
- Ibuprofen
- Hair of the dog — have the same drink you had the night before!
Did I miss anything?

Christian Dior
Net-a-Porter
Whistles
Gatorade is your friend!!!!!! It helps with all the dehydration from the night before
1Does hair of the dog really work? I've always been terrified to try it.
2I agree with you Marni! Gatorade is my miracle worker.
3Hydration is the only thing I need. I try to drink a lot of water all through the night--I might pee a lot, but at least I feel fine in the morning
4Hair of the dog DOES work. In one of my psych classes I learned that being hung over is like going through a mini-withdrawal...so it makes sense that it would work. Oh and I've tried it. lol
5i have heard that the best way to cure a hangover is just to drink again!
6Oh and greasy food always seems to help too.
7Definitely chugging a bunch of water before bed and also getting up and moving when I wake up. I feel way worse if I just lay around all day. Shower, get dressed, and go eat some greasy breakfast. Helps me!
8I never get headaches but I ALWAYS get nausea! But I found out that dramamine works like a champ! Now I always keep some in my purse for those crazy nights and rough mornings
9NEVER mix liquor with champagne. I did last NYE and ended up on the bathroom floor for 2 hours. I don't even remember how I got to the bathroom. I didn't have that much to drink either!
10If I am going out for a night of drinking then I definitely make sure I eat well. That includes a good source of protein and carbs. It really helps
11full meal beforehand, don't mix alcohols, stay as clear as possible (i.e., no dark drinks!), and most importantly, drink a full glass of water with each alcoholic drink.
(and if you're me, STOP at three!)
12I learned several things in college, many of them about alcohol. When drinking, remember this little fable:
Liquor before beer - stay in the clear
Beer before liquor - never been sicker
Beer also includes wine. Oh does it include wine!
13My list of things to do before you go to bed... drink three full glasses of water, eat something starchy, BRUSH YOUR TEETH and sit two excedrins and a non-drowsy dramamine next to the night stand with full glass of water for when you wake up.
14I don't drink but maybe once a year with a special dinner. But once or twice a year I'd like a light beer with pizza, only I'm allergic and can't seem to find good advice for the allergic reaction... hives but not asphyxiation. Has anyone heard of a effective remedy?
15Eating in the morning definitely helps.
When I used to work at a Korean sushi joint, the chef would make us all this big pot of a stew with beef tendons (sounds gross, tastes good) and said it was a great Korean hangover remedy. We used to out drinking together a lot, and that stuff really did help.
Isn't menudo also said to be a good hangover remedy?
16Yes, I'm from Texas and it's either menudos or migas for breakfast after a night out! (Bloody Mary and/ or Mexican Martini optional...)
17Hellooooooo how could you forget - carry a purse big enough to put flip flops in so that you can switch out of your heels at the end of the night so you dont fall and hurt yourself
18i always find that when i'm the 'wing woman' and i have to focus on being the cool friend to get the guys for my other friend - well that's what keeps me from being miserable the next day cause i have without getting over done.
19Soup, water and tylenol. I'm not much of a hangover person though. I'm more like the puking drunk. Its been a while, and I've learned not to mix vodka with anything. In general vodka mixed with sweet stuff makes me sick, I used to love vodka but now I just can't keep it down.
20356UIK, by that point in the night I need someone else to carry me anyway
21Eat a few pieces of bread or some crackers before hand, drink a lot of water during, and pop an ibuprofen after.
22MULTI-VITAMIN! Take a multi-vitamin and drink as much H2O as possible before you go to bed. You will feel brand new in the morning. TRUST ME! Then Ibuprofen and Gatorade in the morning. Easy peasy.
23I've never heard about not drinking the cheap stuff- does that apply to wine too?
24this might sound wierd, and it may only work for some people, but mac and cheese helps, maybs it is the carbs of the macoroni
25Emergen-C!!! It has Vit C and B vitamins too, plus electrolytes, and you mix it with water so it's automatically hydrating. I make this my last drink of the night...with the ibuprofen, when I get home.
And really good moisturizer applied liberally after you wash your face. Wild nights leave your poor face (really all of your body) parched.
