Most of you have been in at least one relationship before, which means you have a story that explains how you met! I always enjoy hearing how it all began — not only does it give me faith that it can happen to me too, but it gives a lot of insight into the couple and the individuals. Whether it was love at first sight or just a total fluke, do tell, how did you meet your significant other?

a total total total fluke
1we just started talking on a beach one day, both drunk, and never left each other's side since then
it maybe wasn't love at first sight, but it was probably pretty close
We became best friends in grad school. We had a class together and we discovered that we both had s.o's who lived 1.5hrs away in a bigger city and he didn't have a car so I offered to drive him to see his gf when I went to see my bf on wknds. We became best friends from spending all the time together in the car, and I used to rave to my girl friends that him and I had the best friendship bc we were in super serious relationships and didn't have any like intentions of breaking those off. Well eventually both of our other relationships fell apart (at the same time!) and we were emailing each other a lot (by that time he had graduated while I had a few more semesters) to help each other thru the breakups, then realized that everything we didn't see in our old s.o's we found in each other! Once we were both officially single, it was love at first "realization" that all along we were best for each other. We are getting married in 6months!
2oh yah, and we weren't near home when we met either, but found out we actually live pretty close to each other...and he told me last night that even if we had lived 8 hours away from each other, he still would have called me after that weekend! it was meant to be.
3I met my husband sometime shortly after being brought home from the hospital after I was born. Our parents were neighbors and friends. I have literally known my husband my entire life
4Aww I love these sweet stories! I met my husband at work, as his new boss.
5won't tell how we met, ha ha, that's between us two. And it is a guy not a woman as some of you sure are suspecting.
6I met him back in college..I was making valentine's day cards for kids in an orphanage we volunteered alot at (as part of community service for my sorority) and one of my sorority sisters knew him and asked him to stop by and make one (he was on his way to playing b-ball) he was with a mutual friend and we hit it off from there
7Freshman year of college I was in a pretty serious relationship and not really looking for anything else. At a friend's birthday party her cousin showed up. We had so much chemistry and immediately clicked. We've been together ever since.
8At the bus stop. We were walking towards it from opposite directions. We both smiled. At the stop, he asked me when the next bus was, while there was a huuuge bus schedule displayed right next to him
. We got on talking from there. Sigh.
9something in me has just clicked! Thank you popsugar, now i know why you get hits after hits from women. You make them talk about themselves!!! well my blog is its way i sure will keep this in mind.
10We worked together about 3 yrs ago. I was actually his boss for about a month during my internship.
11I'd know him for a year or two. We just hung out in a group of friends and sometimes talked and joked around. Then one night we ended up hanging out alone and he looked at me and said "I wish you weren't my best friends sister" then he leaned over and kissed me. We started out with the agreement that it would just be sex since he is my brothers best friend and the whole thing was supposed to be a secret but we ended up getting along really well and really liking each other and now we're happy and officially dating out in the open.
12Very first day of college, and I thought he was a total ass, so no, it was not love at first sight. We didn't start dating until a year and a half after we first met, but five and a half years after we started dating we were married, so I guess it was meant to be in the end...
13We went to high school together. The summer right before my senior year (his junior), he called me up and told me he was naturally smart. AKA flirting.
I thought he was weird. We flirted for months, then in December I decided I just wanted us to be friends. He cut off all contact with me until May.
We became friends again and I kept thinking to myself all summer, "It's so nice to have a really good guy friend." Little did I know he was completely in love with me again.
Two weeks before I went off to college in a different state, I decided "screw it" and we kissed. And then it was like "well, why not" and we did long distance for two years until now.
14The guy I dated my senior year of high school and I met in a pretty weird way. Apparently, we had been going to school together for years and even had mutual friends but had never met or seen each other. Then senior year we had two classes together. He didn't know who I was but saw me talking to one of his friends, and he did the most immature thing: he threw an empty water bottle at me! It certainly got my attention. We didn't start dating until maybe a month or two later when we hung out for a day and gave blood together.
15blind date!
16LOL, I'm laughing at frostfromfire's story, it sounds so... unromantic! "screw it", "why not" - LOL. You sound really excited about your guy!
My boyfriend and I met on the internet. A common friend thought we should meet, and gave him my messenger name (without asking for my permission!), so he started writing to me every day. I was like - I don't talk to strangers, go away! But he persisted, and his messages were so funny and witty and unique and cool that after a few days I ended up giving in and responding.
It took another 15 months before we actually met in person - but since day 1 we clicked and shared a crazy, unnatural complicity, and I sort of always knew he was the right guy for me.
17I met him through my best friend's fiance. At first we just hung around in the same crowd and were casual friends for like three years. Then I started hearing whispers that he liked me and he "happened" to always show up at a local bar that my girlfriend and I frequented. It was then that we started talking more. He would send me texts and we would talk on the phone a bit. Eventually, we ended up on our first date at that same bar and have been together since. He asked me to be his girlfriend on Feb. 15 of last year!! Almost a year!
18I met my high school sweetheart at a basketball game, I was a cheerleader for my school and he was from the visiting school.
19I met another in the Army. I met my ex-husband in a college class; our names are one letter apart and so the professor paired us together all the time and I had known his brother in high school. Started cute, and we ended as friends. The rest...not so sweet so I won't talk about those ever again.
Hiding55, that's cute. My ex just married his best friend's sister. I think it's sweet.
And pretty much the only way he'd meet a decent woman, cause he wouldn't have met her hunting or fishing.
20We met at work, he had just transferred to my store and one day I was helping out making flower arrangements and he came to buy a bouquet for his girlfriend. I thought he was cute and that was sweet, but we were both in relationships so I didn't think any further. As we bumped into each other more and more, I was definitely getting attracted to him. His relationship ended badly (he caught her in bed with someone else!) and I was trying to be supportive. Eventually, I knew my relationship was coming to an end and literally the next day after I ended it, I got up the nerve and kissed him! I told him right then that I thought I would marry him...a year later, we were long distance and both stressed out and we broke up. As of this week, though we haven't seen each other in 6 months, we both declared our feelings are even stronger than ever and we want to find a way to work it out--so now we have some really big decisions to make! It's exciting, and I'm more sure than ever that I was right and we will get married eventually. If you lose someone and they come back, that's the best way to be sure it's meant to be!
21my boyfriend was my high school sweetheart, first boyfriend (first everything!). We dated all year our senior year, then broke up and I went to college for 5 years. He stayed here for a while and eventually moved to Vegas. I moved back home last June after graduation, and he randomly moved back in November. I was dating his best friend (haha..its a small town!) and he dated someone else for a while...then one day in March, we both found ourselves single, and he professed his love for me, and we've been together ever since.
22we met on the internet actually! he randomly found my profile, thought i sounded interesting, and sent me a message. we talked on the phone and eventually met face-to-face about a week later at his band's practice. we hung out at my place afterwards and two years later we're engaged!
23My fiance and I during the first week after we'd moved into the dorms in our first year at college. My suitemate persuaded me to accompany her to each room on our floor, to meet people. His was the last suite we went to. He answered the door, and our eyes locked - we stared at each other for what had to be seconds, but it felt like minutes, lol. Our suites were right next door to each other, but we don't recall seeing each other after our initial meeting. Well, my friend must have taken notice of the eye contact, because about a year and a half later she set us up. Been together ever since, getting married in January.
24My husband's best friend was the brother of my really good friend. My friend was talking to me about him, and my husband's friend was talking to him about me. They started inviting us places together, and we would be the only two single people there. After hanging out as a group for about a month or two, my husband called to ask me out. We got engaged after 7 months of dating, and married 10 months after that.
25At work when I had a bf at the time. He tried to hit me up but I rejected him, although, I was attracted to his energy I had to say no. We would still talk but only as friends.
When me and my ex bf broke up. I was heart broken. I was just lingering around and he noticed something was wrong. We began talking more often and started getting to know each other after that.
26My 2nd quarter (my college ran on quarters not semesters)he was friends with my best friend and wanted to meet a girl, I had just broken up with my abusive bf and was ready to meet someone new (particularly who wasn't abusive) and we met a couple days later and hung out in his dorm and swear to god, I just never left. We hit it off so well that we slept (without the sex part for the first few weeks) together every night. We haven't been apart since, and that was almost 3 years ago. We are pretty sure we'll get married someday.
27Oh I love to tell this story haha
One day I was really sad because two days before I broke up with my stupid ex boyfriend (we were on and off for 5 years). My mom and my sister didnt knew what to do to get me out off the house, so they told me we had to go to my dad´s place and literally drag me to the car. I was lying down in the back seat all depressed when my mom took some weird route that nothing had to do with the one that take us to my dad´s (she says she doesnt know why she did that, just feel like doing it). Suddenly, my sister was like LOOK AT THAT! and there was this hot blonde shirtless guy washing his car outside his house. I immediately recognize him (we were in the same high school but he was 2 grades below me and we never talked but I always told my friends that I was gonna marry him some day lol).
28We pass in front of his house like 3 times haha, then we went to my dad´s and then again in front of his house (he wasnt there anymore) and then to my house. An hour later I was chatting with a good friend who turned out to know the hot guy and gave me his email. Im really shy so i didnt want to add him on msn and that he would think that i was a stalker or something but my mom was like ADD HIM, DONT BE A CHICKEN, YOU ARE SO COWARD HAHAHA (she hates my ex so she wanted me to meet new people). So I add him and we totally hit off, we chatted for like 7 hours one day and a week later we had our first real date. It was amazing how much chemistry we had.
On december 2 its going to be our first date anniversary. almost 3 years had passed, we are now living together and i still look at him and feel exactly what i feel the day I saw him washing the car.
Oh and another thing its that he NEVER wash his car, that day his father told him to do it and he was extremely mad, theres pictures his dad took of him that day because he never do it so it was like a miracle lol we like to think that destiny got us together
We met through mutual friends in college. Two of my friends kept telling me about a guy in their class that was super fun. They thought we'd get along with each other because we had the same favorite band. They were right, but for many other reasons as well.
29I met my bf online...on an online dating website. After I broke up with my ex, a friend of mine decided it would be a good way for me to 'meet people'. I never paid much attention to it and checked once in a while since I have no trouble meeting guys in my day to day life after the first month of missing my ex after the break up.
Anyways, I saw my bf's profile one day while I was scanning and thought he was cute so I messaged him, and just started chatting. Than Feb 18 we met up for some coffee for the first time and ended up going on a 3 hour date (and made him late meeting up with his friend). We just talked about everything and anything for 3 hours...and the rest is history
...we still have great convos and make each other laugh and giggle.
I can truely be myself around him and no one gets my silly side like he does. No one calls me on my bullsh*t like he does
. All I can say is I am glad I was bored and browsing the internet that day!
30We met at work. He was just getting out of a relationship. We started as friends, found we were a good match, and got together about 6 months after meeting. Five years later, we live together in a house we bought, and we are still having lots of good times.
31We used to work for the same company, but in different stores. He was good friends with someone who worked in my store and came in to visit him one day. We hit it off right away
32My boyfriend and I met 5 years ago when he was working at the GAP. I thought he looked like a model and he thought I looked good in the jean skirt I tried on. The rest is history...haha!
33we had dated briefly in high school...like maybe a few weeks(you know how HS was). we had met when I was a freshman--he was a sophmore and became great friends in geometry class...fast forward a year later and he asked me to homecoming and we dated. I actually broke it off because I remember thinking he was too nice...fast forward that 7 years, it was the beginning of senior year of college, I had come home to house/dog-sit for my parents who were out of town...I ended up having people over and we went out later on for one of our friend's younger brothers 21st birthdays. Well turns out Brett was there because he was friends with our guy friend! I remember thinking, wow, he's so cute! i took us both a while to approach one another (apparently we were both plaing coy), and we started talking and we had so much in common, it was crazy! We ended up staying up talking all night at our friends house well past sunrise. he asked for my number and wanted to take me to dinner the following night(it was labor day weekend), and he called, we went to dinner, and the rest is history! Been together 3+ years and it has been amazing!!! (and the homecoming pics are hilarious!)
34Online! We lied about it for a while, to our parents and friends. But we don't care anymore, it totally worked for us!
35i met him about a year and a half ago. my girlfriends and i were going to all these artsy bars... and no matter which one we went to, i noticed the SAME guy like every weekend. he was so hot... total rocker type... and i thought, way out of my league. but... i could swear that EVERY time i saw him, he was staring at me! of course, i told my girlfriends this as it was happening every night, and finally my best friend got so annoyed with my "crush" talk, that she just grabbed my arm and marched up to him and his friend. she said "hey! we see you guys out like every night!" Turns out, he was like the shyest guy i'd every met.. but so deep and creative. we had an instant connection and started hanging out a lot. but then, at the end of last summer he moved to another city
We stopped talking and i kinda forgot all about him. BUT...
about five months ago he moved back and got in touch with me again. i had a boyfriend, but we started hanging out as friends. only recently have we started seeing each other. def worth the
wait!
36My boyfriend at the time introduced us....ouch
37We met online. We both joined the same dating site for kicks.. he looked at my profile, said Hello... and we have been together ever since. Now happily married.
38My sophomore year at BU my bf Kim and I went to a party thrown by a friend of hers from high school so there were a lot of her old buddies there. She introduced me to this guy Mike who she was friends with since they played in band together. I had a fleeting thought that he was good looking and didnt really consider him much since he was there with his now ex, Chelsea, and he went to Berklee College of Music and the chances of running into each other again would be slim.
So almost a year later, April 2005, Kim and I went to see her now ex-boyfriend, Paul, perform (he was lead singer in a band) for a battle of the bands concert at Paradise Lounge on Commonwealth Ave. We go, Mike's there and him and I start talking he buys me beers and it's a great show. Somewhere over the couse of this I found out from either Kim or Mike himself that him and Chelsea broke up some months before. Anyway, Paul's band won so in celebration mode we hightail it over to his house at Tufts to celebrate with everyone who came out to support. Mike and I ended up out on the upstairs balcony and we were the only ones out there but it was like we were in our own little world. We just talked and talked and he leaned in to kiss me. It was *magic*
. We just stayed out there, completely shut off from everyone else talking
and kissing.
That night we stayed over at Paul's place and slept on couch cushions together, cuddling. It was an amazing night. 3+ years.
39aww yay Smurfle!!

41At a mutual friends wedding!
42We became friends during my first round of grad school when I lived in the UK. We were both working on the same field and we often went to dinner parties together. However, we were attached during that time, even though we had crushes on each other! When I went back to the US we kept in touch. Then I got some secret admirer e-mails on the following Valentine's Day, which led to a deepened correspondence once I (happily) realized it was him. However, I was still in the southern US and he in the UK, so I was dating over here and got into a relationship. Three years later, after I'd moved to NYC and my long term relationship fell apart, we reconnected in the UK this past summer, though he was half-seeing someone at the time (nothing happened between us, though we had an amazing time in London together). Then over the couple of months after I came back, we fell in love over letters and chatting and decided we were the perfect match. Spent a week in a cottage in Scotland which confirmed our suspicions. He's coming to visit this week, too... we're very happy to have finally settled on each other and I'm happy to have finally found the "one" (who was there all the time, just slightly inaccessible). At some point when I'm through with school I'll move over to London.
43We were high school sweethearts. :]
44I met my fiance online, it was about a week or so after I just moved from PA to CA and being that I didn't know anyone, I went online to find events and cool ppl to possibly meet.
Well we started talking on messenger, then on the phone and he was very funny and sweet. Another week passed and we decided to meet up. He drove up to where I was living at the time and hung out the whole day watching Family guy and snuggling on the couch. After the first day we would hang out a few days a week depending on our schedules. I finally got a car about 9 mos later and we saw each other practically everyday. Now we have been together for almost 3 yrs living together for just over a yr and planning to get married next year.
I remember everyone telling me how crazy I was to meet a guy online but now they are ones that are speechless. I'm glad i stuck to my instincts because he is def the guy for me.
45freshman year of college, the girls who lived across the hall from me were best friends since middle school. allison, one of them, told me one day that one of her really good friends from high school who also went to college with us saw me on her facebook and said i was cute.so she set us up.
46after that i found out that she and her roommate had both dated him at some point in their lives. since then, i've pretty much befriended their entire hometown!
but my guy is my favorite
At a panty party in college!
47plenty of fish dot com
48hahaha...funny but true
My finance and I went to the same college, but didn't meet until after we each gradutated. Met the first time through mutual friend at the Young Alumni Reunion. He got my number, but then never called me! So I forgot about it...
Flash forward a couple of months later, and I'm waiting in line to get into a bar with a friend. This guy comes walking over to me, and looks vaguely familiar -- it was the dude who never called. He approaches asks if I remember him, and then asks that I give him my "real number" this time. Turns out, he had inversed two digits of my phone number, so he couldn't get a hold of me. I was pretty impressed with his approach. We've been together ever since.
49Junior High! But we didn't start dating until we were in college (it was a fluke that we winded up at the same school!).
