Barack and Michelle Obama met President George W. Bush and First Lady Laura Bush this afternoon, producing images of impending change. After a tour of the White House, the 43rd and 44th presidents separated from their good brides for official talks in the Oval Office. Without anyone else present, Bush and Obama were expected to discuss the economy, the war in Iraq, and national security. Considering Obama's transition chief said today that Obama will quickly begin to reverse Bush's policies starting on day one, this meeting has to be a bit awkward.

How precious.... Bush & Obama are nearly matching.
1Wow they must have been so excited!
2Darn the Obamas are tall. I just never realized it.
3I bet GW is excited to get to the ranch in Crawford, TX. He's spent the last 8 years clearing brush there, and it should be ready to go for his retirement now.
4Just so everyone knows... I wasn't really meaning that it's precious. I was trying to be sarcastic but I don't think it came off as such!
5Michelle looks uncomfortable.
I love the picture where it looks like Obama's struggling to catch up with Bush. Too funny.
6I like both Laura and Michelle's dresses. It's strange to see them in similar styles.
7True I think the sun was in her eyes. I hate having to take a picture when I'm squinting.
8I LOVE Michelle's dress -- and Laura's is nice too
9I know, I hate that too.
10An Obama administration would almost be reason to move back to DC - if he could guarantee no blizzards, I'd do it.
11I like the picture that looks as if Bush is getting a handful of Michelle's butt.
12DC people are so wimpy about their weather! I remember when it snowed here last year; what people referred to as a snowstorm here would be considered a light dusting in Cleveland.
13[I love the picture where it looks like Obama's struggling to catch up with Bush. Too funny.]
Or Bush is running away -- "I'll race you to the Oval Office Barack - but I get a 5 second start" -- lol (age before beauty)
14It did Amy! I think navy suits and blue ties might be about all they agree on though.
Wow, to have been a fly on the wall of the oval office today!
15No Lil, I mean blizzards. I could take the little dustings, it was the blizzards that I fled. The covering the parking meter snow. The wet that got in to your bones and took until April to dry up.
16Yeah, I'm well aware of what you meant. As you can see, I didn't refer to you even once. I was talking about DC people in general. Since the likelihood of you being one of the DC people I'm talking about is pretty much zero, considering that I've only lived here a year, I would think it would be pretty clear that I'm not actually referring to you.
17Whoa Nelly!
18Steph it's been a while since we've had one on those.
19The weather has been really nice lately. Jacket weather.
20lilkimbo, I know those Cleveland winters are REALLY rough! When I was in Cincinnati (Cincinnati winters are obviously completely different than Cleveland winters, of course)winters were VERY cold, gray and blah and the snow was ugly and wet. But the best part about Cincinnati winters was when there were 2 snowflakes in the air, the city was in a state of emergency!
I loved it!
21Well, Liliblu, I'd definitely come back to see him in the White House. It'd have to be in the spring or fall though because I hate winter and my kid hates to be hot - and I've never really explained to her what DC is like in August. She'd love the thunderstorms though.
22DC is August can be miserable. But I couldn't imagine living anywhere else. I visited family in CA in August one year and was cold at night.
I love that the DC Metro area shuts down at the first sign of snow. Snow days are great.
23Steph were you in DC during the blizzard of 1996?
24If I remember correctly that storm was around the time of the Federal government shutdown. The blizzard and the shutdown were given credit for the baby boom that followed.
25I didn't live here at the time, but I remember hearing about that as well, lili.
26I love DC in winter!!! I don't recall people overacting about winter weather. But it's all about perspective
27Where are you from originally, tia?
28tiabia it's usually the schools that close at the first hint of snow. But I understand it. A lot of kids walk to school here. If snow is predicted bread and milk can disappear from the shelves. There is always a run on shovels and ice.
29I just remember people at my office always being all concerned about how everyone was going to get home. It made me laugh, actually. And schools would close for like an inch of snow and a little ice. We needed AT LEAST a foot for schools to close in the Cleveland area. Usually, it took more.
30I don't think that people in DC overreact about the weather, but I'm from NC originally.
I think our neighborhood is the last in the City to get plowed - even the bus drivers refuse to drive on some the roads there.
31I think tia is right. It's all about perspective/what kind of weather you experienced growing up.
32GW "heh Heh see here Barack there is this secret drawer in the presidential desk where you can hide stuff, I put candy in it"
33Yes Liliblu, I was there in '96 - that was the one that got me thinking it was time to go. Being from Chicago, I don't think the Obamas will really notice (and I've never seen a President have to dig his own car out of a snowdrift).
34When I lived there I remember we got like two feet of snow! (Though I was not in DC, I was about a half hour outside.) But I do remember people freaking out about the snow when I lived in the South. We were expecting literally two inches, and the newspaper said something like, "People who stocked up on canned food and water for Y2K will be in good shape this week..."
35I am from DC. It's usually the surrounding suburbs whose schools close EVEN before a snow-drop has fallen, however DC Public schools rarely ever close for snow.
36Agreed Tia..I spent 3 years of High School in Silver Springs and I can vouch for that one!
37Well as a wimpy Aussie my first NY winter nearly did me in and then my friend was telling me about getting ready to move back to Chicago and having to get used to the cold again. Bloody hell!
38I always wondered what it was like to have actual snow in winter. I lived in Oregon for the first 8 years of my life but all we got was dirty slush.
And where I live now...near San Francisco...we haven't had snow in 6 years I think? And I'm talking inches of snow...like 2 maybe
39Much better fashion choice for Michelle todaay.
40Michelle's outfit is awesome. I want it the dress and the shoes... I wonder what size she wears, and if she's willing to do some sort of exchange
41Mich, unless there's some serious perspective problems in your pictures, that would be a floor length gown on you!
42Maybe she can put me in touch with a good tailor.
43And I had no idea was so obviously short. Sad
44Haha, I'm sure she could.
45Oh, no it's just that she is so tall. Nearly six feet if I'm recalling correctly.
46This is great, I can't wait for Barack to begin his "rule" on January 20th.
47awww organic you're just bitter because nobody voted for you.
48I agree *harmonyfrance*
And why in the hell does the title have the word WHITE in parentheses. What was the point of that one.
And on a serious not sarcastic note, yes, I will be glad when our new President Barack Obama takes over in the White House. Hopefully better days will come later in the future for us all.
49LOL Michelin..I think True Song is right.. Michelle is about 5'11...
I just love the structure of the dress.
And Organic...better load up on some dry food and head into the bomb shelter..you know the end of the world is coming Jan 20th *sarcasm*. Seriously, what are you so afraid of? Obamam is so 'centre'..he's not even that left if you look at where 'left' actually is in the grand scheme of things/politics in many European Countries, Canada, Australia. He would probably be in the Conservative party of Canada....(which would be the Republican part in the US). France, Germany, Canada, and Australia haven't fallen apart into disaray and economic diasaster with more left leaning governments than Obama...
