Now that the election has ended, members of the campaigns aren't quite as tight lipped. It's like getting a retroactive backstage pass when happy, or disgruntled, aides start revealing happenings that didn't make the talking points or headlines. The latest issue of Newsweek takes a look at the secret battles waged on the path to the White House, and the private events are a doozy! Of these leaks featured in the expose, which one surprises you the most?

Ok seriously, this woman is scaring me more and more. Good job not giving her any more power, Americans.
1none of this surprised me...she is an idiot. thank god our country voted the right way
2sadly im not suprised about the increased threats during sept and october. in the article itself, michelle told and aide (paraphrasing here)'why would anyone want to hate us?' i really hope that these last two months are the last we have to see of her on the national stage, and i hope she doesnt run in 4 or 8 years.
3I agree with laceykk23
4Not at all surprised that she didn't Africa was a continent a lot of morons don't. In fact none of these are shocking.
5I was pretty surprised by all of them EXCEPT the threats against Obama..that was not surprising, just scary, sad, and disturbing. My personal favorite is the one with Palin in the towel. Man, I hope that's true. If it is she made those guys' LIVES. I'm not a fan of hers, but I'll bet she looks pretty decent in a towel!
Do we know the actual level of truth to any of these rumors?
6What shocks me is that anything about palin is more worrisome to someone that "foreign entities" hacking into the computers. Seriously people, let's get our priorities back in line.
7The question was SHOCKING, not WORRISOME, Great Sommelier. And I find it waaaay more shocking that a VP candidate would (allegedly) speak to advisors in a towel, than that foreign entities would (allegedly) hack into US computers seeking policy info. In fact, that one doesn't shock me a bit. Sure, it WORRIES me, but that's not what Liberty was asking.
8Im just happy Palin didn't get the 2nd highest position in the country. It's time to move on from the campaign bitterness. And I agree it isn't shocking the computers were hacked, but it sure is troublesome.
9Ah, I see what you are saying. I only slept for two and a half hours. That's my excuse! Coffee?
10I don't really find any of these shocking.
11What if it were McCain wearing the towel? Granted that's not a pretty thought but I don't think it would have the same meaning as Palin doing it. I mean we don't even know the circumstances behind it. They could have been in a hurry and it was neccessary to meet with her while she was getting ready. Who cares anyway?! I can't even believe I'm typing this mess.
If all that I am reading is true, I think its terrible that McCain aides are bashing Palin and putting all of this unsubstantiated information out there about her. I'm not saying its not true but even if it is, the McCain people were responsible for vetting the VP candidate and should have picked up on it before they chose her. To demean her now and say all of these negatives things and to some degree blame her for the loss is a cop out in my opinion.
12I 100% honestly don't believe that a Governor doesn't know Africa is a continent. I think everyone got into such a bash and hate palin mode during the campaign that they are just having a hard time letting it go.
13My favorite has to be her greeting aides in a towel. Now that is one classy lady!
14NONE OF THE ABOVE
I think its shocking that we are discussing rumors, put out there by an unknown unnamed source and voting on it!!!
Where are the real stories?
Californias Gay Ban Challenged.
Michael Crichton is dead
Who might be in Obamas Cabinet
Heck I will take a poll on what freaking puppy the obama girls should adopt.
at least its all backed up with facts.
15Piper, I'm not sure of the validity of any of these...they are all being presented as 'rumors'. And I would personally be just as shocked, perhaps even more so, if Senator McCain pulled the alleged towel stunt.
Like a train wreck..you just can't look away.
Now I will be thinking about John McCain in a towel all day long. Great.
16the towel thing is really above reproach. talk about unprofessional. i wouldn't even feel comfortable taking my SHOES off around my boss. but that's not what surprises me about these rumors. i think the hillary/mccain call is a little disheartening. and speaking of the clintons, where were they yesterday? i guess our "first black president", has been overshadowed by our "first black president".
17CG calm down it is all in good fun. This stories are all over all the news stations. This is supposed to be a fun happy place! Haven't we had enough fighting?
18CG: i'm sure we'll get another prop 8 story at some point today -- but i don't really think michael crichtons death is bigger than a story about obama receiving threat warnings from the secret service. yeah he died, that's sad and all, but when studs terkel died last week (one of my heroes, RIP), i didn't see a huge story on citizen covering that news.
19Sexy, please dont be condescending and tell me to calm down. Just because they are all over the news doesnt make them any more factual!
I am not fighting, I am just stating my opinion strongly. dont take it personally.
20I just always thought spreading rumors was wrong. Maybe that's just me. And only a handful of the posters are even mentioning the fact that they might not be valid.
21YY, the point is, this isn't a story about Obama's threats. Yes, that does warrant a story, I agree. This is basically just ANOTHER palin bashing thread with two non palin bashing things thrown in.
22yy well there should have been, there needs to be more varity on here!
23And the election is over.
24What shocks me is that McCain people think telling these stories paints them in any kind of good light. So we were right to think she didn't know much - HE picked her and THEY kept trying to groom her to become our vice-president. Apparently, none of them cared enough about the U.S. to say no to a dangerous gimmick.
Says a lot about the respect they have for this country.
25Morning Sunshine.
26GS, i hear you - this most likely will turn into another palin bashing thread. i think there is a lot of unexpressed anger and confusion (on both sides) about why this woman was even chosen in the first place. while it is still debatable whether or not she actually was the straw that broke the camel's back and lost mccain the election, it was mccain who chose her - if anyone should be slammed in the postmortem, it's him.
one other point - there's been tons of negative press on her throughout the campaign (and 99% of it she deserved), but i do think it's interesting to see that fox news actually broke the africa story. funny how they have completely turned on her now, isn't it? after o'reilly, and hannity, and all the other blowhards came to her side during the campaign and said she was being unfairly attacked... ha. i hope more people see the light about fox news after this election.
27I really agree with CG. These aren't substantiated. And I do want to learn more about Prop 8, Obama's cabinet, and more that is based on fact. Sarah Palin has taken a lot of hits and now she is back in Alaska and I don't want to worry about her joing thet national seen for at least 4 years!
28"Rumors Fly After Election:"
The title says it all. These are rumors, and spreading rumors is wrong. Who here would like anyone to be discussing rumors about them? Let's stick to facts, and argue over those.
Good morning everyone.
29
Mornin' Dave!
30I'm with CG, I'd like to know what kind of puppy Sasha and Malia will get.
My
vote's for a border collie/beagle mix, like mine, but eh, I'm partial. Ooh, or a golden.
31They need to get a good old mutt! A rescue dog, that would be great.
32Or a hairless cat. Those things are hilarious!
33Mutts are the best. A rescue dog would be a cute idea, too. My friend has a Newfoundland, and the only drawback is that when she and her kids are splashing around in their pool, their dog kind of freaks out and thinks they're drowning, so she dives in and starts grabbing them by the arm and trying to pull them "ashore".
34Didn't we have this story last week?
"Top 10 Places We'll Show You That Google Can't!"
35Oh em, poor dog! But, I bet that makes mom feel pretty good that the dog would do that.
36Those are RUMORS. So you are more idiots than Palin, if you just blindly believe them and start calling her names.
I do not like Palin, but I have formed my opinion on rather good proofs.
37...or a hairless dog.
38just as long as they dont get a chihuahua
39Yup, GS, it makes her happy, but she gets annoyed sometimes.
That dog is ginormous,
though, I can't even picture it diving into a pool with her, her husband, and their three little ones.
40Yeah, those are big dogs. I ♥ big dogs though! I have a Great Pyrenees/Husky mix. She gets bigger every day.
41Aww! She sounds adorable. I like bigger dogs, too--my dog's not huge by any stretch of the imagination, but she's the biggest dog in my neighborhood. Everyone here has little yappy dogs. There used to be a Great Dane across the street, but he died last year.
42There needs to be a none of the above because none of them shock me. Isn't that sad?
43I think they should get a rescue dog!
44I think the reason that these rumors about Palin are being brought up at all is because of the McCain staff. By now, reporters know who the aides were in the campaign, and so when they tell the media stories off the record, it is taken as true because they are known members of the campaign.
For example, one thing not on the list is that Randy Scheunemann (spelling?) was McCain's top foreign policy advisor, and prepped Sarah for her debate. He was supposedly fired last week for talking to the press and telling them that the McCain campaign "rolled out" Sarah in the wrong way, which lead to a her negative view of her. Now Schuenemann is saying he wasn't "fired"...he just had his blackberry and campaign email taken away so he could no longer have communication with the campaign (sounds like being fired to me!)
Some of these stories ARE rooted in fact, because when a campaign loses, everyone tries to save themselves by stabbing others in the back.
45Rumors... Shroomers... Who cares what so-and-so revealed? Not me.
46I think they are getting a rescue dog...
None of these rumours would shock me at all if they were true.
47I had a hard time choosing between these two:
Palin greeted top advisers wearing only a towel, during the RNC.
Geographically challenged Palin did not know Africa was a continent, not a country.
But to be honest, none of the ones listed were that shocking considering how everything was going in the campaign.
48i think that a lot of it is nonsense - and i don't even want to dignify it with a response. i think that people are looking for a scapegoat now, and since the election is over, they are aiming it all at palin. the thing to remember is that chances are in 4 years, once she's in the senate (since the seat is going to open up in Alaska), we'll see her again. she has a good following in her party - so it's probably smarter not to stir up trouble, if newsweek or the other books want to have good relationships with her the next time around.
49stephley, I agree - most of us already thought that Palin was a little "goofy" to say the least, so none of this really shocks me. But for the McCain camp to now bash her, like it was HER fault for the campaign loss and that's she's an idiot....who's the bigger idiot: Palin for taking advantage of a "good" thing or the McCain camp for choosing her??
