Polls indicate that Barack Obama is set to become the next president of the United States. But we all know that a lead in notoriously volatile polls only guarantees the opportunity to experience an embarrassing upset.
John McCain's path to the White House is narrow: he must win all the states Bush picked up in 2004, or capture a big enough Kerry state to make up for a loss. But thanks to a recent tightening in the polls, a McCain win appears in reach.
After almost two years of campaigning, a less-than-dramatic finish could be anticlimatic. If an extreme outcome is in store, do you think the 2008 election will end in a landslide like the 1936 election, when Franklin D. Roosevelt won 523 votes to Alf Landon's eight? Or will it be similar to the 2000 fiasco, which ended 36 days after election day?

This is my prediction:
1A solid and respectable win. Nothing fancy. I think anyone trying to say Obama will win North Dakota or Arizona is nuts, but I think early voting will finally give us either Ohio or Florida.
(But I'm happy to be proven wrong, North Dakota!)
2I think it will be close but Obama will be our next president.
3I think tomorrow's going to be a lovely day.
4I'm thinking, hoping, pleading with the gods that Obama wins. I'm so nervous for this election. No matter the outcome, I think the absolute worst thing that could happen is if there is no clear winner and/or voting debacles. I was having dreams about there being no winner last night and it was not fun! I would much rather McCain win in a landslide than go through 2000 again.
5I know what i hope to happen (Obama as president)...
but I'm doubting that will happen.... I don't wanna get my hopes up just in case McCain does win
6is anyone watching CNN right now?
Obama's giving a speech and he just got tears..
great now i got tears..
7yea I dont wnat to get my hopes up iether..but God I hope Obama wins.
8either*
9I think it will be a good, solid win.

11I'm hoping for Obama to win, but I really think it'll be close. My brother and my dad (both Repubs - voting McCain) are calling it for Obama.
TS, my boyfriend plays with maps every day
He'll go on and look at the new polls and
see how the states are leaning and adjust his map accordingly.
I'm getting up early and voting even though my state is going to be red (OK), we haven't voted blue since '64. Then I'm wearing my new Young Democrats shirt all day with my Obama pin on!!
12I'm going to try to figure out how to post a picture on here so that you all can see it
I'm hoping for a landslide!!
13I hope obama wins but with the history I think mccain may win
14i think it'll be close, but obama will win.
15As much as I would like him to, I don't think there is any way McCain will pull this off.
16And I feel like once the winner is called that we should all line up and hit low fives saying "good game, good game, good game" like in HS sports!
Its been a long one y'all!
17That would be great, haus!
18lets hope thats what people will do!!
19great idea haus
20Yep, very nice idea.
21I'll be working and knocking on doors trying to get people out for Obama. This is historic no matter the outcome! I'm really excited and hopeful.
22lol- WAY too long of a game though!!!!
23Hey! Who voted 'other' - does someone think Bob Barr's gonna stage a come from outrageously behind upset????
24If Obama loses tomorrow(:fingerscrossed that it won't be true), there will be no rabble-rousing from my end(shocker!). I'll concede, as long as there's no gloating from the other side.
But no, really...we've been at it for too long. If Obama wins, I will be
ecstatic...crying tears of joy and all but I'm not going to rub it in anyone's face. Just looking forward to the future, we need a change for the better.
25"Hey! Who voted 'other'"
Ralph Nader
26I'm with you, indie.
27Good idea haus! No matter who wins, we get a new President and to me there could be no better news.
I'll look forward to being able to talk politics with the hubby again. In the interest of staying married we've steered clear of the subject recently!
28other -
I like the high five idea!!
29I don't know why, but I honestly think McCain could be named winner tomorrow - I just keep thinking of the time I checked the Internet and saw the giants beat the patriots - I mean WOW - it seems like an upset is likely when the race is so close and Obama, with all things considered could not take a much bigger lead.
30What would there be to rub in? I mean, even if my guy wins, it's not like the conservatives have been saying McCain will win, just that they think he should win. No one is proved right or wrong by who won the election unless the argument is just over who is more electable.
31Well I can assure you ladies that if somehow McCain pulls this off you will see no gloating from me. I've never been one to gloat, esp. not with something that people are so obviously emotionally invested in.
32I can see certain more childish and fringe-y types (on both sides) deliberately gloating and, yep, rubbing it in should their side win. I think that would be nonsensical and wrong, but I could see it happening.
33Kudos, Jude. I agree.
34oh there are DEFINETLY going to be gloating from people. I wont do it I promise!
I was wondering about the "other" too..
35I feel bad for Nader...
36Oh yea Jude! The fringies will be out in force on the 5th! I think I will be convienantly absent that day....
37He'll be fine, mommaof2--his messianic egotism will leave no room for sadness
38I like the word "fringies," haus. Makes me think of radical partisans in Native American-style motorcycle jackets and moccasins.
39I don't know if it will be either a landslide or a nail biter, but Obama isn't going to have any problem winning.
40thats the new word "fringies"
41Well now, I plan on celebrating - not in your face celebrating, but I expect to be happy and to enjoy being happy.
42as well you should!
i just personally am not one for celebrating... maybe thats the cynical side of me, I'll celebrate when they actually DO something they promised!
43I think with more economic crisis shoes waiting to drop, I'm gonna celebrate while I can.
44At my office, we think the worst is yet to come - we expect the first of the year to be painful - and its going to take a couple of years to work through it all.
i think the sun will come up. someone will win. the problems we have will continue and in 4 years the newly elected president will be just another person to blame the greed and shortcomings of ourselves upon.
45Well said, hausfrau
46Well, look, I think I'm gonna win this one. I know some of you might be surprised, but I've been talking to the electors here and there, and I think they're really hearing me.
Since none of you will be deciding this election anyway, I haven't wasted any time campaigning among the regular people.
47I'm hoping and praying that Obama will win tomorrow.
I don't care if it's a landslide, I just
hope he wins by a sizable margin so there won't be a recount or anything of that sort. I have a feeling tomorrow will be an emotional day, no matter what the outcome is. I'm so nervous.
48"I've never been one to gloat, esp. not with something that people are so obviously emotionally invested in."
Exactly hausfrau...I will remember to put on my respectful hat when I wake up (hung over) on Wednesday.
49If Obama wins of course, I refuse to vote on this pop poll out of paranoia.
