The 2008 Presidential Election began almost two years ago, so it's unbelievable that it's actually ending. Once all the election-night dust settles, we'll be going through some serious campaign detox. As years of town halls, attack ads, obsessive poll checking, stump speeches, and countless debates come to an end, what are you most looking forward to in the next chapter of US politics?

Since my friends and relatives with different political persuasions and I don't insult each other, that won't be a problem, although, if I make my wife mad at me, I can then "make up" with her....
1definitely the world's reaction toward the result... It's very interesting to see how this election is being widely coverage even here in Asia.
2No more Bush. It seems like the day would never come. But it's closer than ever.
3honestly, i'm just going to be thrilled when all this stuff is over and done with so i don't have to listen to it anymore. i feel like once the election comes and goes, maybe we'll hear about stuff on the news and on CNN and networks like that that are about other things, and not about what palin is wearing or about how much mcain and obama hate each other and all that. it's just tired already, and i'm really upset with how much the celebs are getting involved, so maybe they can just go back to being celebs and note political puppets.
4It will be nice to not hear about so much political crude after the election.
Also, I'll be glad for Bush to leave office, so everyone can quit blaming him for all the problems...
5Other -- looking toward the future knowing the worst is behind us and our best days lay ahead.
6I want to see who is going to be in the cabinet. That will be interesting.
7I doubt the sniping's going to end with the election - the new president still has to deal with the economic mess we're in, Guantanamo, two wars and Pakistan, the Patriot Act and the deep divisions that have developed in our society.
So I'm going to focus on watching how the rest of the world reacts to us with the new president - after the 2004 Brit headline screaming 'how can so many people be so stupid?' it will be nice to see something positive.
8I can't wait for all of these. However, what I won't miss is the election-related spam emails I keep getting. The mudslinging has been out of control this cycle.
9other: when the media isn't over-saturated with all-election, all the time coverage. I just want it to be over.
10really? watching Bush ride off into the sunset?? LOL!
I wish there would have been an all of the above button!
maybe even an "never having to hear her voice again" button..
But honestly whats most important to me is our future!
11I lied. I am most looking forward to a glass of champagne filled all the way to the top...if my ticket wins.
12Other - all those ridiculous campaign ads going off the air. Can't stand them! Aside from that, the end of an era and beginning of a new one. Simply - change.
13bahahaha...I knew that one would win! LOL mommaof2!
14I'll be looking forward to those Pro-Prop 8 signs disappearing...maybe a big bonfire in my backyard...
15I'm looking forward to no more election pamphlets or programs or stupid glossy environment destroying flyers.
16No more commercials about the candidates and their positions.
17How about never having to see a anti-Merkeley commercial ever again. God damn it, I voted. I have hear those commercials every other tv break
.
18Ok, so no more lawn signs and tv ads.
19Now, just recession, depression, foreclosures, bankruptcies...
thanks for the reminder Janneth
20I cant wait (if my ticket wins) to rub in my fathers face that not every cuban has to vote the same!
21Actually I am a bit wary of the next few years whomever wins. I am looking forward to not being so bent on reading every political story I can get my hands on over morning coffee, hopefully post-election I can break that addiction.
22I wish that some extended family that stopped speaking to us when they found out we were democrats would ever speak to us again, but I guess good riddance to bad luggage.
23If McCain wins I will be pleasantly and peacefully relieved. I won't throw it up to any of my liberal friends because I wouldn't want them to do that to me. If Obama wins then the day after the election will be much worse than any day before it and for the FIRST time in my life I will be ashamed to be an American.
24Syoko, Cinelover and cabaker27.
25Hypno??
26Dave I think he is saying he is looking forward to the return of those posters.
They have been away so long that Hyno didn't know that cab is now haus. But she still have the cupcake.
27Nevermind, I figured out what you were saying. I have a feeling it will be a long time before they come back here.
28No more signs, no more commmercials, no more 'election coverage'.
But I really hope my guy wins. =]
29Dreamsugar I'm with you and I am not an American
30Then that's sad Dave. For one I actually like Haus and two who wants to talk to themselves all day? I go to a liberal arts college, if I wanted to preach to the choir I'd go back to campus
...
31Ooo new one, I'll be excited to get back to reading about World News. I've neglected it and have been completely focused on US politics.
32if obama wins, i can't wait to see the media turn on him. that will be a rude awakening. and funny! i read that he's already trying to "slow down" his message of "change", warning folks that it will definitely take time... wait... you mean, if we elect you, everything won't be perfect by february 1st?? whaaat?
33And my science journals...yeah any news not specifically related to US government will be nice.
34Kathryn if people expect change to happen that fast, what with Obama's talks of 10 year plans, than I feel sorry for Obama that such unreasonable people exist. I was a huge Kerry supporter and appreciated lesser promises in exchange for honesty about the reality of the situation...unfortunately that doesn't get you elected.
35I want to hear Obama's inaugural address, Obama's cabinet, world's reaction, and to see Malia and Sasha playing on the South Lawn.
36I agree 100% with Jessie...are people really that ignorant? Or wait a minute...is it just republicans looking to talk sh*t already because polls are lloking bad for them???
37I don't mean to be an elitist but when people say that they will be ashamed to be an American if Obama wins is too strong. It's not that serious. People act like the world will come crumbling down. When Bush won the second time yeah I was pissed but it's not like I was going to commit suicide or move to another country. I mean to hate someone so much who wants to help other people is a little ridiculous and self-centered. But the who the hell am I besides a anti-american/liberal elitist/baby killer/tree-hugger/anti-war/Obama-loving geek.
38Oh and I can't forget about anti-gun/pro gay marriage/socialist/womanist.
39"Then that's sad Dave. For one I actually like Haus and two who wants to talk to themselves all day? I go to a liberal arts college, if I wanted to preach to the choir I'd go back to campus ..."
Maybe you should let them know. There has been an incredibly strong anti-conservative movement going on here. It's very difficult to have a discussion without it degenerating into insults.
40That actually goes on on both sides.
41I'll accept that (about the insults). So where do we go from here?
42Whoever wins, we need to except. We need to become one.
43I don't think we need to become one, but it would be nice if we could become civil.
44I meant as a nation and a country.
45I don't think Obama is going to bring us together as a nation. His socialistic policies won't do that. Again, I'll just hope for civility.
46I never said Obama is going to bring us together. We need to do things for ourselves. The words in the mouth.
47looking forward to seeing these PROMISES be made reality!
48I'm not, because that would be very detrimental to us all.
49See I think that is what angers Liberals...detrimental? Minus Palin I wouldn't call McCain detrimental to anything but my hope for change is this country. McCain seems a lot more level headed than Bush and I don't think four years of him would sink this country.
Conservatives are so used to being the majority that they think it normal to call another party's candidate detrimental, even when they're competent. The top 2% of Americans giving back their tax cuts from the last 8 years over the next four years isn't going to "sink us all." And you wonder why we jump down your throats.
