what was interesting is the Nickelodeon Kids choose the President, now I expected Obama to win blowout style b/c from what I see Obama seemed more kid-friendly and youth-friendly, but Obama won only 51% -49% - I thought that was very odd.

That Politico article reminded me of the reason I can't wait for this election to be over already.

I don't understand why Politico waited until now to run that article.
Talking Points seems to be trying to put a happy spin on the GOP chaos - but I think Obama's made it pretty clear, nothing's driving him anywhere he doesn't want to go.

Kids have been so into this election season. My 6-year old sister loves to go around saying stuff like "Vote NO on Proposition 2" and say "Vote Yes on Proposition 7". It's pretty hilarious to me. Of course she doesn't know what they're about but television has been hugely saturated with political ads. My 12 year old brother likes Obama, he doesn't listen to any family political discussions...he came to that decision all on his own. There was a girl, a 4-5th grader, at my sister's school's dressed up as Obama(suit, tie, flag in hand, hair pulled back)..she looked great. I have a picture of it. She is tall and lanky just like him too. I love seeing the slideshows/photographs of kids meeting Obama, showing their excitement about this election. They are the future of this country. All of them, whether they support Obama or McCain. We have to encourage them to make up their own minds(hopefully unbiased) about such things.

During the primary season, a four year old boy told me that he was "going to vote for Obama and not Hilary" but his mother hushed him up before he could tell me why. I thought it was cute but I am sure it is all because of things he was hearing at home.

One of my sister's friends(they were 5 at the time) told my dad the same thing also during the primary season. His parents are Obama supporters.

I'm really not surprised it's a close race. Kids mostly just listen to or repeat what they hear their parents saying.

"I'm really not surprised it's a close race. Kids mostly just listen to or repeat what they hear their parents saying."

That does not discount the fact that some children are perceptive. I saw a 4 year old and his little sister, 2, on the news. The 4 year old was a McCain supporter and the 2 year old likes Obama. He seemed very smart and he repeated a few talking points that frequent the McCain ads but still, he seemed to have come to the decision all on his own. His parents said they never talk about politics to this kid, or even around the kid. Even so, he's still pretty intuitive.

This reminds me of when I was a little girl of about 6 and I went to school one day and saw a friend with a Nixon sticker on her lunchbox. I was like "ooh no, Nixon is bad..."

    "He IS?" (huge eyes)

    "Oh yeah!" (much nodding)

"Why?" (begins peeling off sticker with that distinct "but mommy put it on there for me what is she gonna say" face)

"Dunno, want half my sandwich?" (I shrug and offer food, because mom and grandpa's political discourse only weighed on my 6-year old mind briefly)

My parents never really talked politics but I knew who they liked and who they didn't like. Clinton = good, Bush = bad.

I remember when I was in the 5th grade and I was damn near threatening my teacher saying, "you better have voted for Gore."

I found out later where my 4 year daughter got off saying "Obama!" everytime she saw my button on my tote...Nickalodeon while watching spongebob!
The first time I heard her say it I was like "huh?" and she said "Obama's in the race...with mc..macain. who won?"

I thought it was scary at first..then I realized where she got it from! Now she see's that Obama won (in the kid voting thingy) he comes on in a commercial every now and then and she just goes "yay mami he won!"..

    Kids really are cute!
