"Gird your loins!" Yeah! My favorite quote of last week made it into the opening of SNL last night where Joe Biden and John Murtha attempted to remove their feet from their mouths for certain "crises" and "redneck" statements. Biden just blusters on with the thought. "Our military may invade Pakistan, or surrender to the Chinese. We may sell Hawaii to Saudi Arabia or just destroy it, so it can't fall in to North Korean hands. But just reserve your judgment — we know what we're doing!" Really? Let's watch and just see about that.
Biden's bombastic soothsaying continues, "If Barack Obama is elected, we will have a crisis. And when this crisis hits, and it will! In the second week of February, we may do some weird things." It's followed by a list of other crazy things Biden could say when he should know better. Punctuated with Murtha trying to get a word in edgewise about how he didn't mean redneck, he meant racist and ignorant to the modern world, it was a cavalcade of "not helping! Stop talking while you're ahead!" moments. Just like the campaign itself. Ah, philosophy on a Sunday morning.
Also in the political scheme of things, Maya Rudolph made her debut as Michelle Obama in a sketch about the variety hour Obama is going to turn his 30-minute television spot into this week. I hope it's true! It looks better than the Carol Burnett Show and Hee Haw! combined.

4It was pretty funny, but I can't wait to see if Obama will really turn his 30 mins ad into a variety show, oh man, if what happened last night really came through..it'd be awesome.
5I didnt think SNL was that funny last night. The variety show was alright..kind of corny afetr a while. "Biden" was a little boring but Murtha was funny!

7Best part of the night was having Jon Hamm as host; the rest was just blah--maybe because to Western Pennsylvanians Murtha just isn't that funny. Can't wait until November 4th!

Anyone see the clip of his interview with some FL reporter who gives him a Karl Marx quote and asks him how that is different from Obama - his reaction is priceless 'Are you joking, is that a real question, who is writing your questions" his smirk was funny too...

12What Biden said is probably true, but he shouldn't have said it. He knows Americans aren't too fond of honesty and that it would be taken out of context.
zeze I saw that interview. I laughed out loud when he said "Are you joking?". The reporter questions did seem to be right out of a talking points handbook.

14I thought the Biden opening was boring and that the real Joe is funnier.
15It was an OK sketch--I will say that I was too busy being impatient for Jon Hamm to get onto my screen to realy pay much attention to it, though.

17It wasn't that funny in comparison to previous political skits. I like the Obama Variety Hour one better, especially when Barack talks to the spirit of JFK (who was played by Jon Hamm, the host for that night).

19I think it should be noted, Nurse Deanna, that Biden said that during the primaries when Obama was his competition. Was he supposed to say, "He'd make a great president. Much better than I would. He's way more qualified than me." Of course not. They were adversaries at the time. Biden couldn't be nice with out it looking like he was promoting his rival.

23GS for the record, all i said was that the comment was taken out of content. Not that it doesn't matter. Obviously it matters to some people.
24It wasn't out of context though. It is a direct quote. To me, it matters more that he said that in the primaries and then took the vp slot than if he was just one of the other contenders.
25Not many people praise a person they are running against besides the arbitrary "he is a great and honorable ma" bs. Biden and Obama were adversaries at the time and answering in that way gave him an oppertunity to take Obama down a peg. It may be his true opinion of Obama, it may not. I take what opponents say against each other with a grai of salt. Bush wasn't very flattering to McCain when he was running against him. Romney didn't have great things to say about McCain when he was running against him. At the time, McCain was the enemy so they acted towards him accordingly. The context of the quote being said at the time it was said does make a difference.
Conversly, you can't trust what Clinton or Biden are saying about Obama now, even though it is praise. Now it is their job to get him elected. What Romney and Bush say about McCain now is not to be trusted either. Chriss Dodd could think McCain is a swell guy but h isn't going to be on Fox News tomorrow saying, "JMac is my BFF!" They all have an agenda and their agenda is to a) do what is best for their political careers and b) do what is best for their party.
I guess the point of this rant is that you can't trust anything one politician says about the other during an election to be their true opinion one way or the other.

27lol, it made sense! And I agree 100%. That is the point. These are just politicians. Everything they say should be taken with a grain of salt.
28Its so sad Kas and GS that we have to take, what the people who are campaigning to run our country, have to say with a grain of salt. You would like to believe that regardless to whether they are running with or against each other they would give fair and accurate criticisms to the best of their knowledge.
29Maybe next week SNL will parody the Barbara West interview. Heaven forbid they ask hard questions.
