One of my favorite shows is back for its second season tonight and I'm already gearing up for it! If you didn't catch season one of Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, tonight's the night to get hooked. As a self-proclaimed reality TV junkie, I've seen a lot, but this show takes an incredibly serious look at the lives of these celebrities and exposes their insecurities and weakness. Just like Intervention, Celebrity Rehab is an effort to get them off the drug of their choice, but throughout the season we get to see them rehab not only through detox, but through therapy as well. Sure, I feel a bit voyeuristic watching these individuals experience such pain and heartache, but seeing the realistic side of fame makes each of the celebrities seem a little more human — just like you and me.
Have you ever seen the show? If so, do you think it's just another attempt to pry into the private lives of celebrities or do you think it's an interesting way to get them clean and sober?

I watched last season expecting for these celebrities to be exploited, for the help they seek to not really be there and was pleasantly surprised by the dedication of Dr. Drew and Company to really help these people, some of which were on the road to death.
I had seen some of them (bridgette, China, Mary Carey) and said to myself "they arent long for this world" and was happy to see them on the way to recovery. (who knows how they are doing now? hopefully well)
I was also surprised to see on this season another American Idol Alumni, how quickly they have fallen.
1I think it's a good idea. I see the criticisms, but here's why I'm okay with it:
- Many celebrities suffer from rampant narcissism. Addict celebrities are worst of all, just by virtue of their disease. The only way many of these people will ever get clean is through doing it on tv.
- People either who are addicts themselves or who are loved ones of addicts may start to recognize the signs, see people who need help, or even gain a greater understanding of the disease.
Overall, I think it's a good thing. I hope all these people can get and stay clean and influence others to do so.
2I have conflicting feelings on this show, even though I still watch it, but ultimately I think these people NEED the cameras around to start the process of getting clean. Some of their desire to get high comes from coping with the fact that they aren't famous anymore and no one cares, but if you've got a country watching you and rooting for you to get clean, that may be the motivation that's needed.
On the other hand, it freaks me out that there these people are so far down the rabbit hole: Seth, the singer from CrazyTown, has a toddler, and it seems selfish to allow a camera to record you smoking crack when there's a good chance your child will eventually see it someday. Also, there were a few moments last season where it seemed these people were competing to be the most screwed up, which I think is really unhealthy, and the cameras can create that atmosphere of competition.
3I don't know, but Dr. Drew is HOT! or maybe that's just me!
4If the celebrities agree to seek help and don't mind having their difficult journey videotaped, then it's no more exploitation than any other reality show.
5well i think that it's a good way to show that they are like us and that it's HARD to get sober. Dr. Drew has this rehab facility that regular folks go to as well as these celebs, and yes it may be a bit kitchy for being on TV to do it, but i think that it helps. you're kept a bit more honest if you're trying to get sober while you're being taped since your faults will be amplified on-air. i saw the first season and i'll be checking out season 2...
