So you hate that condoms make sex less enjoyable and you despise being on hormones because they make you moody.
So what's a girl to do about preventing pregnancy? Maybe you've considered the Today Sponge. It's a hormone-free, spermicidal foam sponge that a woman inserts before sex. It covers the cervix so it prevents sperm from getting to the uterus and it also kills any sperm that should happen to pass through. Women who love the Today Sponge really love it, but the problem is, it's off the market! Last December, Synova, the company who manufactured it went bankrupt. No money means no Today Sponge. But I have good news. To hear it read more.
This past June, Alvogen purchased the manufacturing rights for the Today Sponge. There isn't much info about when we should see it back on shelves, but I'll bet it's soon since so many women are anxiously awaiting its arrival. If you can't live without the Today Sponge, you can purchase it for a pretty penny on eBay or Amazon but as soon as I hear something, I'll let you know.
On a funnier note, Elaine from Seinfeld was an enormous Today Sponge lover. To see how she decides whether a guy is "sponge worthy" or not, check out this hilarious video below!
Tell me, are any of you Today Sponge fans?

Ah...gross.
1Spermicide doesn't sound fun to me, but that Seinfeld clip is hilarious!
2Ah Seinfeld was the first thing I thought of when I saw the title!
3I have never heard of this.
4Eww.
5Has anyone ever used this? I know nothing about how it would feel....
6The sponge is not as effective as condoms, so I wouldn't be willing to use it unless I were definitely ready for a child, if that would happen. I think the sponge is somewhere in the 80 percent range effectiveness, but I'm not positive?
7I know a girl who is an escort and she said she uses these while she's on her period. I dont really get it either but apparently it stops everything from going in OR out... *shudder*
8It's not something I'm interested in because the pill is so much more effective and easier.
As long as people are aware this doesn't protect against STD's -- whereas condoms do! -- I say have at 'er. It's a good alternative to hormonal birth control.
9I have been waiting and wishing for this product for the last year. My body cannot handle any of the birth control pills and condoms alone still make me nervous. I feel like something physically blocking my cervix would put my mind at ease. It seems a lot more convenient than a diaphram. (You can put it in earlier and leave it in longer.) I think this is the third company to attempt production. If it does come out, I hope gynos really push it.
10I wish these were still available. Back when I was in college, we'd go up to Canada and buy tons of them to bring back with us, because we couldn't find them in the U.S. Now we can't even find them in Canada.
They're a great alternative for those of us who can't take hormonal birth control and have latex allergies.
11This seems like a GREAT method!!
Since my body is scared of hormones like it's the devil.
I was grossed out by pulling the Nuvaring in and out... but this, I could do!
But one question...
You would HAVE TO use lube right?
12All the "wetness" you get from arousal would be trapped above the sponge, no? Eww...
I used these a few times. But I could never really tell if they were IN right... if that makes sense? haha. Like, positioned correctly.
Anyways, they irritated me a little so I haven't used them for a while. I actually have 2 left. Haha.
13I thought of Seinfeld the minute I saw this title. I actually saw a box of these at the grocery store a few months ago.
14Fallen 85 if your friends a prostitute what does she do for protection???? I guess that's secondary to the pay.
15I was under the impression that fallen 85 meant she used it to keep the flow in...
16This is gross. The Sponge must be for old women who can't come into this decade. What an awkward thing to put in and a disgusting thing to take out.
17yea, she uses condoms at all times of course but just uses the sponge as a secondarly method during her period to, as georgie said, keep the flow in. Still totally grosses me out lol
18LOL I'm so glad you posted the Seinfeld clip, Dear, I thought of it the moment I read the subject line.
Yeah I'm kind of grossed out by the thought of putting these in/taking them out...
19it only went of the market b/c the company that produced it didnt fit sanitary standards... the sponge itself is fine.... it was just the previous company... but I use the pill and Condoms are prefered b/c of std protection
20you have to admit that when you're comfortable with one product it's hard to find something else, but in today's day when there are SOO many options - i can't believe that so many people are so upset about this. it's great news that there's a company that bought the license for it, so hopefully production will begin again soon.
21If you haven't tried it, don't knock it. It's not messy, not disgusting, and definitely not awkward. It's good for 24 hours, and does allow spontenaiety. God some of you are feckn idiots.
22i agree, don't knock it till you try it! i loved the sponge. it isn't gross, doesn't require additional lube, and is easy to use. i want to get off the hormones, and was looking for this recently of course only to find they are once again gone. i looked in Canada as well, and they are gone their as well. i hope Alvogen gets them back on the market soon!
23The Today Sponge is back. But it is very expensive
