You know how there are just some girls who always seem to have a pack of guy friends? According to the Times, Sarah Palin is the candidate equivalent of that. With crowds that seem to be tipping heavily male (I suppose the legendary Joe Six-Packs?) the vocal man-fans aren't afraid to be heard. With calls of, “You tell ’em baby,” and “You rock me out, Sarah,” Palin seems to be comfortable with the demographic saying, “I feel like I’m at home."

At one rally a female supporter taking a snapshot said of the ratio, “This is not a ladies campaign. There seem to be lots and lots of guys here. I’d guess 70-30, maybe 65-35, men to women. It’s quite noticeable to me.”
To see what the Times had to say about another woman on the trail, Cindy McCain, as well as Christopher Buckley, read more.
This weekend also saw a piece on Cindy McCain the response to it has vacillated from "humanizing" to "gutter journalism." Touching on her challenges as the second wife in Washington, her substance problem, and ties to the Keating scandal, the piece also notes: "Mrs. McCain has exhibited the signal trait of the political spouse: a burning desire to win."
Christopher Buckley also got his time in the Times sun this weekend, with a feature on his now famous decision to back Obama. In the piece one friend says, “When you live in that Buckley bubble all those years, you’re not really allowed to say what you think. This is probably the last liberation for him. He put his flag in the sand.”
What do you think of the Times' coverage of the Republican Party recently?

Dudes voting with their penises? Typical.
1Serial I think its very interesting that you say that and thats socially acceptable.
yet if someone said "black people voting for a black person? typical" that would be wrong and "woman voting for a woman?" that would be wrong as well.
men today get cast in a very negative light.
as for the NYT, well I can't wait to see their hit piece on Michelle Obama.... I won't hold my breath.
2No kidding, haus. Also, aren't most Republicans male? ... So then wouldn't a majority of the crowd at a GOP rally be male?
3Nah, that makes too much sense... must be Palin's hot legs.
Times coverage of the Republican Party lately? Or always? None of this is surprising.
And hausfrau, I also won't be holding my breath waiting for a single negative word about Michelle Obama from the NYT.
4Penises arent good voters Serial, they can only stand at attention during "rallies" for a few minutes or more.
5Maybe Cindy was just criticized here because she was calling out the Obama campaign as being the "dirtiest in history" (or something like that, correct me if I've got the phrasing wrong)? Has Michelle called out the McCain campaign for anything yet? I'm not sure if I've heard anything.

CG. You don't want to know the mental image I just had after reading your comment!
7CG - You've obviousily not been introduced to the little blue pill...
8rofl... CG!
Anyway, that was just my lame attempt at an early morning joke. But you can't deny that men think Sarah Palin's hot in that sort of naughty librarian sort of way. And to borrow from Alec Baldwin, maybe Palin really is "way hotter in person."
9no serial I know what you mean! I figured you were joking.
Its just something I've
noticed lately.
like for instance, look at all the tv shows and commercials, usually its a lazy, dumb man and his all knowing, all doing wife. I mean thats like 90% of how men are portrayed! if I were a dude, I'd be PISSED OFF!!!
10em - Even if Cindy did say that, why does it matter? MO goes off about Fox News, geesh BO goes off about Fox News and no one bats an eye. Did the NYT do a hit piece on MO after she said it was the first time she was proud of her country? No. If anything this Cindy McCain piece seems like a defense of the Obamas.
And the NYT sent messages via Facebook to Meghan McCain's friends (underage friends to boot) looking for a quote and dirt? Thats messed up. Really messed up. Thats like National Enquirer showing up at Britney Spear's grandma's house messed up.
To me, I'd rather the NYT examine the "spread the wealth around" quote direct from Obama than some quote from Cindy McCain.
11But, at the end of the day, I have faith that most people know the NYT leans to the far left.
12Undave, in that case they can stand there for hours, but if it goes beyond 4? they need a medic.
13According to Rasmussen in Feb. this year, 24% of people have a favorable view of the NYT and 44% have unfavorable, 3% not sure.
14Well, I think it matters because it's a more of a direct hit at the Obama camp--the talking about how his campaign was the "dirtiest" and talking about how Obama's not supporting her son in Iraq with his policies. I don't care if they criticize Michelle--they can criticize whomever they want, as far as I'm concerned, on either side. Just my opinion.
This also just may be me, but lots of news sources should be examined and criticized. Fox also puts a lot out there that is pretty ridiculous ("terrorist fist jab"? "She's right next to Russia--of course she knows about foreign relations!"), so, eh. I was just trying to come up with a reason as to why Cindy was put in the spotlight in that instance--not saying Michelle's not immune to it and shouldn't be subjected to scrutiny as well, but maybe with Cindy's being a bit more vocal about the Obama campaign directly, she brought it upon herself in some way. Again, IMO.
15I'd also hope most people knew how to make up their minds about news sources. No source is 100% unbiased, and ridiculously biased things have been said by lots of media outlets.
16CG, now I'm just thinking about Bob Dole. This is going to be an interesting Monday morning...
17em- i see what you're saying. i just disagree. MO has been doing more sit down type campaigning, less events. CM has been doing more events, so sure that puts her up for scrutiny. But if the central quote was about the Obama camp being dirty, then why not make the piece about how the camp ISN'T dirty? Why turn it into a personal attack ya know?
18I think if there are more men being "pro-Sarah Palin" it may be because she's not some old guy in a suit. She's different and she's pretty. If Biden looked more like George Clooney it would be reversed--there'd be tons more women than men at Obama/Biden rallies.
19em- i looked up if they had polls about other news outlets... no luck! oh well..
20Yeah, I see what you're saying Haus. There's also something to be said about gaining readers, which again, no side regardless of readership is immune to that tactic.
This is, again, why I trust Stephen Colbert with all of my news.
(OK, fine, that's
not true, but still, he fills my daily eye candy quota. Partially.
)
21No surprise - my brother-in-law and other conservative guys I know are agog at the idea of a "totally hot VILF" (their words exactly) and thinks it's "hot" that she hunts. Definitely a conservative reaction in the mold of "totally hot" Ann Coulter, etc.
22"Definitely a conservative reaction in the mold of "totally hot" Ann Coulter, etc."
Haha, princess, this may sound mean, but...people think Ann Coulter is "hot"? Or was that meant as a joke? It's a bit early for me
23Well I think a better question to ask is if Palin LOST women Repubs? I know for sure the ladies on here are for her...but perhaps the large amount of males can be attributed to the lost of female votes?
I know quite a few female Repubss (though mind you...more middle of the way Repubs) some what appalled by her?
24I think what's appalling is that she thinks she's qualified enough to even accept the nomination of VP (That also comes from some republican friends of mine). They feel torn because they like McCain but are fearful of her, in turn, angry at McCain for picking her.
25I'll admit that she wasn't my first choice, but I'm suprised that anyone thinks she isn't qualified. She is as qualified to be vp, as Clinton was to be President back in 92. They have a similar list of experience to that point.
26My husband is voting McCain/Palin and its not because of her looks.
27Clinton was more qualified especially if you compare their education histories, as well as political histories. She went to what seemed like a dozen colleges, some community colleges and majored in journalism. Quite a bit different from Bill.
28I agree that their scholastic work is different, but their political experience is neraly identical, right?
29Clinton did spend a year in College as an intern for Arkansas Senator J. William Fulbright and was a Governor longer than Palin. In my eyes, he had way more experience/knowledge because of his education. She received her scholarships thru beauty pageants and there was absolutely NO political education in her past.
30Funny article! So screw up the world because you think the b*tch is cute.
sh*t I'm going
to toss my hat in the ring.
31dream - the requirement is that you have to be cute..

32JK
It's ok to say men vote for her because she is hot but not to say that blacks are voting for Obama because he is black. Double standard. And are we going to bring the whole experience thing up again? Shall we talk about Obama again then as well? I would rather not open up that already discussed can of worms.
33I would wager that the only people who always have a lower approval rating then the president is the media.
No one likes the media, everyone sees their side as truth the media had no choice but to show and the opposite stories as lies being purposely twisted by the media to brainwash people. So, I'm not surprised most people have an unfavorable view of the NYT.
Haus - I'd be interested in the approval ratings of other outlets if you happen to know them or where to find them.
34Oh snap.
35(Oh snap @ UD)
36Dudes for Palin? Nobody from the NYT even contacted me.
"like for instance, look at all the tv shows and commercials, usually its a lazy, dumb man and his all knowing, all doing wife. I mean thats like 90% of how men are portrayed! if I were a dude, I'd be PISSED OFF!!!"
Speaking for all dudes everywhere. Eh... a lot of us are pretty dumb and lazy.
37bombs away
38Ze - I looked on Rasmuseen but the NYT was the only one I found.
As for Palin's experience, you know what I find appalling? That someone who has spent 2 years as a senator and 2 years campaigning for President thinks he should be President Not even VP, President.
Fact is that Obama is unqualified just like Palin is unqualified. At least Palin won't be running the country on day 1... learning on the job.
39Not you dude. You are a folk singer. You can't be fat, y'all smoke too much.
40Again, look at Obama's educational history and look at hers. He has more qualifications than her.
41Well if all you need is education then you must LOVE GWB, I mean he went to Yale and Harvard!
42Do you think Bush's education, oh, you know, yale, makes him A-OK too?
43Look at what GWB *cough* accomplished *cough* at those schools.
44That is a well thought out and valid argument girlA.
45He got into Yale because of his daddy, got a degree in history, then couldn't even get into the University of Texas School of Law, the went into the Air National Guard and we all know what happened there...then an MBA from Harvard.
46Just not as impressed...
47GirlA the idea that where someone goes to school is paramount is really flawed. There are plenty of idiots at ivy league schools, in fact, I might even argue that there are MORE at ivy league schools than regular schools.
Qualification should be about education AND experience. Not one or the other.
48Besides, you know what they call the last kid in class in medical school? Doctor.
49I wasn't talking about what schools they went to. I was talking about what they actually studied and what they did after college.
