When I meet someone new — male or female — I often find myself glancing down at the left-hand ring finger to see if he or she is wearing a wedding band. I can't help it: I think it's funny that such a small symbol can reveal such a big fact. Are you guilty of this?

Yep, it used to be "Hey, you single?" but now it's "Hey, you married?"
1I never do this - I guess I should because other people always notice. In fact it's kind of embarrassing because acquaintances have told me they're married and I forget.
2I do it just about anytime I see or meet someone or even just random people I see at the store etc . . .I mean I don't go around spending 100% of my time looking for wedding bands haha. Just as a general "habit" it's become a lot more interesting to me now that I am about to get married.

4No, not enough of my friends are married yet for me to even consider it an issue. Right now having a married friend or acquaintance is more of an anomaly, than a common occurance.

It's a small town, everyman I see is married or 'shacking up'. I don't think to look unless they start flirting. I'm not ever interested anyway.
7I have checked for wedding rings since I was a little girl. When I was much younger (9 or 10), it was to make sure that every adult I met had someone to love them. Now, I just check out of habit.
8I look at them not for the reason that most do, I find it interesting more for the jewelry itself.

10I'm like Susan. I do it more to see what the ring looks like. I do it every now and then. I'm more into it now that my guy and I just bought a ring and we are going to "get engaged" soon.

12I do sometimes, but not very often. I'm guilty of being engaged but not wearing my engagement ring very often! My guy knew I wouldn't from the beginning, but he said he didn't want to be the guy who didn't buy his girlfriend a ring! I wear it outside of work, though.

15I don't even bother taking a second look, maybe because I'm still fairly young and none of my friends (or people I meet) are engaged, married, or even in a super serious relationship. (I'm almost 24)
16Nope, never. That impulse doesn't even occur to me.
But, to be fair, I've been married over a decade yet we did not include rings in our ceremony. It's just not our style. (But I recognize that we're an atypical couple.)
In fact, I couldn't describe the wedding ring of my best friend with any detail (beyond guessing that it's some sort of gold and probably has a diamond on it) even if you offered to pay me for the information.
17I always do this, I don't wear a wedding ring right now,cuz my hands are kinda swollen from pregnancy,but like to see the diff styles of rings people have.

21Yes. I have to agree. I look particularly hard to see if there is any signs of the sun leaving a tan mark on the areas surrounding the skin where a newly removed ring can be found. Another area to look is the ring could be chain as a necklace around the neck. Look there as well. It's so much about the married issue, it is more so that you know what you are getting yourself into instead of feeling being cheated out when you discover the truth.

23I don't look for wedding bands but I do have a bad habit at looking at what shoes people are wearing. I tend to judge people by their shoes. Like flip flop wearers are beach bums or bogans while kids in hi top converse are the epitome of laid back. (Much like myself

26I usually just look at the woman's hand...i want to see what type of rock she's wearing.
27Congrats, Kiki! I look more now that I'm engaged. I think it's surprising the number of adults who aren't wearing a ring. But it's not always a true indicator: my fiance's dad is happily married for 30+ years but doesn't wear a wedding ring.

My brother is a fabricator and welder and has to do manual labor every day. It is very dangerous for him to wear his wedding ring. If he drops a piece of heavy metal on his hand the ring can actually help to cause even more damage. So he doesn't always wear his. He and his wife are very happy though. ... lol actually sometimes she can't wear hers b/c she works with kids with disabilities and it can be dangerous to her and them to wear a ring.
30i find myself doing it more and more now that i'm engaged...i don't know why that is. it's funny cause i know that not everyone wears one, but i guess it's something for be to be aware of...just in case.
31It drives me nuts that guys aren't wearing their wedding rings much these days, it is a trend that I despise. It is bad enough that the older I get the less single guys there are available, but now I can't even tell by looking if they're off the market or not!
