Unless you’re currently trying for children, your sex life is probably focused on not getting pregnant as much as it is on the sex itself. Since we know all about the various methods of contraception out there, we also know that none of them are 100 percent effective. If you’re having sex, there’s always a slim possibility you could get pregnant. And if you have a regular period, missing it for even a day could send you rushing out for pregnancy tests. So ladies, in your attempts to avoid it, have you ever had a pregnancy scare?

when I first got married, Right after the honeymoon I thought i was pregnant and i thought "I am not ready yet!" thank goodness I wasnt!
The worst thing in the world to do, is to go and buy a pregnancy test, the looks you get! to me its worse than the ones you get buying condoms or lube.
1Yes. As said, no birth control is 100% effective, even though we're very careful about it. Also, we don't want to raise children, even though we're married and settled. Thankfully, it was a false alarm. My monthly girlfriend was simply late, and I had severe PMS (which I thought were possibly pregnancy symptoms). Hubbie was as alarmed as I was.
2I'm always buying pregnancy tests. I used to keep them on hand because I was on Seasonale (never doing that again). So I'm always scared. It's always been more situational though, because I don't have sex with people who I don't want to have kids with - and usually by the time we have sex we've discussed whether we want kids and how many.
3I havent but all my friends have had them. All the sexually active ones anyways. Not that this is 100% but I always use Condoms, spermicide and I take the pill every night right at the same time. I feel better that way.
4All the time!
lol.
But not as much as I use to when i was younger.
I wouldn't want any more kids so he (my bf) wears his condoms or he pulls out. What a great birth control method right?
yes i know, not safe, but i don't trust pills or sh*ts or any of that man made stuff. Only condoms.
5They have been effective so hurray!
I meant shots!
6I am always terrified I'm going to get pregnant. My mom and my sister both had children before they were ready, and were very young. My dad always thinks I'll end up the same way, so of course I'm paranoid I will. Even if I take my birth control every day at the same time, I'm paranoid I'm pregnant until I see Aunt Flo.
7Yeah I have a few times. It was very scary.
8once
9and i didnt even have a missed period.
but i googled early symptoms of pregnancy (lower back pain, nausea, heartburn etc) and i had almost all of them
i was so scared i was crying and i couldnt even take a pregnancy test cuz u can only take them when u've missed a period.
Right now! Ugh, I'm on NuvaRing and almost always use condoms, but my boyfriend and I didn't a few days ago and he went in me a little bit. I know that people on birth control do this regularly and don't get pregnant... but I'm terrified! I was almost going to go buy Plan B.. but I thought that wouldn't really do anything else, since I'm already on hormonal birth control? lol OH god
Anyone?
10I just got past mine, actually. It has kind of put me in a weird mood. It was strange to come that close to something I really, really don't want.
11Actually last month I had one. Heat of them moment, no condom, big mistake. But false alarm, I actually got my period a day early. I was pretty freakin' happy.
12No, but my best friend did. She had a fever and was throwing up for a while, which we associated with pregnancy even though it was just a regular sick spell. And then she missed her period from stress and malnutrition. Her stupid boyfriend even tried to steal a pregnancy test from the drugstore (of course he was caught) and gave the clerk my phone number as his own, resulting in a very scary phone call to my mother and the worst verbal thrashing of my life. Horrible month, that was.
13WTF Joielin that was a punk move that your friend's bf did. How could he throw you underneath the bus like that.
14scared because it was ALWAYS positive...earned me the title 'fertile myrtle'...
15brittb7: I used only NuvaRing for three years with a boyfriend and nothing else with no problems. Ask your gynecologist what is safe. Personally, I think hormonal BC is safe enough on its own, but it's up to you.
I even asked my ob/gyn if I could remove it during intercourse, and got two opinions. They both said "yes". The time limit for leaving it out is three hours. It was always much less than that. You rinse it with cold water and re-insert afterwards.
16Oh mesayme that's what everyone calls me!!
My most recent scare was a few months ago, my husband and I already have two little ones, ages 3 and almost 2. We want more, it was just tough with them so close together so we wanted to space the next one out a bit! Pregnancy is always technically a possibility because we don't use any BC except "family planning" as they call it (first two babies were conceived on BC... hence the title Fertile Myrtle
).
Anyway, I felt really pregnant one day, took a digital test and it came back POSITIVE. We ran out for more tests, all which came back negative. FREAKY!
17thanks for the comment, princess.. that made me feel a little bit better. i just hope i'm not that 1 in a 100 women. :-/
18yeah, scariest time of my life
19Yes, twice that were really serious scares...the most horrible feeling ever. :/
20this won't happen if you are someone no one wants to be with. like no one won't give a _______ if you are pregrant or not. also the same applies if no one would have considering having sex with you
21Yes. And I am WAY too paranoid about it. Once I thought I was pregnant and I had gotten my period already. And another time I thought I was pregnant and I didn't even have sex.
Hahahah.
22brittb7, I'm on the NuvaRing and have never used condoms with my husband. We have never had a scare and, well, he has went a lot inside. The 1% fail rate is more or less for liability purposes for the few women who use it incorrectly or may be 'immune' to the hormones. Otherwise, it really is an effective form of birth control. I think you should be okay.
23Yep, and I'm still oddly scared sometimes even though I'm meticulous with my BC now and then...
24No, I haven't. I take my pill every day and don't think about it otherwise.
25Meike, that is definitely good to hear. I was extra paranoid because I was late 10 minutes inserting my new ring... but I even called the Nuvaring Hotline (I know, I'm a worrywart) and she said 10 minutes late putting the ring in was not going to make any difference at all in my hormone levels.
lol - Thankssss so much for making me feel better.
26I'm always stressed so my period is never on time. I was also on the depo shot for like 5 years and it totally messed up my cycle.
We start off with no condom and then put one on (pff I used no condoms with my last boyfriend and
nothing!) and I'm not pregnant.
I basically have a "scare" every month. My boyfriend told me he had a dream I was pregnant the other night and so I took a test the next day to put his mind at ease. Always negative! I've been to the doctor about it and he said that when me and my boyfriend have been having regular unprotected sex for 18 months he'll check my fertility.
Hello? I want my fertility checking now!

28Is it covered by insurance to check your fertility? Can any woman of child bearing age get this done? Just curious..
29I have no idea. I am in the UK and the guidelines are that they'll only run the checks on both me and my boyfriend if we have been trying to conceive for 18 months and failed.
30The week before I got married, my doctor wouldn't refill my birth control for some reason for like 2 weeks...so I got horribly ill, but it ended up being from readjusting to meds again. I thought I was for sure, but I wasn't. I was happy yet sad.
31Yes and it sucked!
32I was always super paranoid- bc I never wanted to tell my parents that they were going to be grandparents unless it was going to be good news.
Now that Im married and in my late 20's my mom is counting the minutes until she gets that news lol. Of course now I also have baby fever and even when I was still on the pill I thought I was pregnant every month- it turned out my nausea was caused by switching generics of my BC and the multivitamin I was taking.
At least buying a test isnt nearly as embarrassing when you have wedding rings on.
33yes - a couple times. my period is very very irregular so i don't always know when to expect it anyway, and there have been times that it's been in the back of my mind that i was preggo.
34Yeah, a few times. I hated buying tests because I was only 16 or 17 and people would always give me looks that just screamed "What a tart."
35I had a week of hell recently with a pregnancy scare. I had to buy a test and found my entire destiny resting on my next pee!
My PRECON status reached 2.

36i am a fertile myrtle. currently a mother of 3, AND divorced.
I have a bf, and have been using the nuva ring ever since i stopped breastfeeding number 3... but, I didn't TRY with any of my children, and number 3 came after missing ONE pill. So, long story short, YES i have pregnancy paranoia all the time...
i am currently experiencing a couple of days of bloating, extreme fatigue, emotional, that walled feeling in the abdomen, breasts are feeling a little supple.... sheesh!
it's all in my head.... repeat, it's all in my head....
37im on my 26th day after my period and had sex no longer then thirty seconds and pulling three times, he never came in me and this was all without a condom. my period's irregular but the normal fertility day is the 14th to 16th right? since im ten days from that im hoping im not... maybe taking the ec pill though help?
38I'm currently going through my first genuine scare, and it's quite possibly the worst feeling I've ever experienced. I took the morning-after pill not even 12 hours after sex (the condom slipped). I wake up every morning with this scare being the first thing on my mind. I am ridiculously serious when I say that I'm not having sex again until I'm ready to have kids, which probably won't be for another 10 years. I don't mind the wait; this scare is an absolute catastrophe! :[
