Sarah Palin has been painting Barack Obama as unpatriotic lately, bringing up Obama's acquaintance with William Ayers, a current college professor and former member of the Weather Underground, a radical organization that wanted to end the Vietnam War through acts of domestic terrorism when Obama was eight-years-old.
But the McCain/Palin ticket has dubious associations of its own. One example: Palin's connection to the separatist Alaskan Independence Party, founded by Joe Volgar who died buying explosives and said while alive: "The fires of hell are frozen glaciers compared to my hatred for the American government." Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. wrote about the apparent hypocrisy yesterday:
If McCarthy-era guilt-by-association is once again a valid political consideration, Palin, it would seem, has more to lose than Obama. Palin, it could be argued, following her own logic, thinks so little of America's perfection that she continues to "pal around" with a man —her husband, actually — who only recently terminated his seven-year membership in the Alaskan Independence Party. Putting plunder above patriotism, the members of this treasonous cabal aim to break our country into pieces and walk away with Alaska's rich federal oil fields and one-fifth of America's land base — an area three-fourths the size of the Civil War Confederacy. AIP's charter commits the party "to the ultimate independence of Alaska," from the United States which it refers to as "the colonial bureaucracy in Washington." It proclaims Alaska's 1959 induction as a state "as illegal and in violation of the United Nations charter and international law."
To find out about Palin's ties, as recent as this year, read more.
Palin attended the AIP's 1993 convention, which called for a draft succession constitution. She also attended in 2000, gave the keynote in 2006, and greeted the convention via video this year.
Based on this information, RFK, Jr. continued his repudiation of the Ayers line of attack arguing: "So when Palin accuses Barack of 'not seeing the same America as you and me,' maybe she is referring to an America without Alaska. In any case, isn't it time the media start giving equal time to Palin's buddy list of anti-American bombers and other radical associates."
The boomerang effect of Palin's criticisms are reminiscent of McCain's attempt to tie Obama to the mortgage giants, while 26 of McCain's advisers or fundraisers, including his campaign chair, have financial ties. If voters want to know about Obama's strained ties to Ayers, will they care more about Palin's connection to Alaska radicals?

If people are curious, here are two websites that are collecting information about the issue of who are Trig Palin’s parents:
1http://www.palinbabyquestion.com
http://www.palindeception.com
Classic case of the pot calling the kettle black.
2Add to that her preacher and his beliefs often spouted to his delegation on Sundays.
Add to that all of McCain's dubious "pals".
Ridiculous.
Let's just talk issues and get past this pettiness.
3The only people reporting this are the media...you don't hear Obama and Joe Biden attack Palin or McCain bring up some of there shady affiliations and pound on it relentlessly to distract people. Oh no, they'd rather talk about the stupid issues. What are they trying to do? Win or something?
4Guilt by association is always a valid card to play in politics, when you'll do anything to win.
Those who live in glass houses, shouldn't throw stones, however, is just common sense.
I'm independent, but Obama has been more than generous to not question some of Palin's personal less-than-stellar judgements. He's ran a fairly clean campaign, emotionally and financially.
It's almost too bad he doesn't bring up more of the dirt. She has plenty, from her investigation, to her husbands political party membership until 2002 (thinks Alaska should be it's own nation), to an obvious pregnancy cover-up and I do mean Bristol's FIRST pregnancy. I think Palin is banking on him staying polite.
And if you don't believe me of Palin's pregnancy cover up, google a decision map of the pregnancy, pulling her daughter out of school for mono for 5 months, and my profile picture, which is Palin pregnant in an earlier pregnancy at 8 mos. Just in case anyone thinks she just doesn't show when preggers.
5Well well well, Sarah sure does have ye olde foot in mouth syndrome. She's everything she says Obama is, it's just well hidden.
6thank you liberty for posting this.
7hmmmm, is there a difference between wanting freedom, and blowing up buildings and killing people?
8dave that's a simplistic view. they aren't just talking about "freedom"... they're talking about freedom from the united states of america - as in, wanting to secede from the union - as in, something that when it was attempted 140 years ago, created a civil war.
9UD...there's a difference when you're 8 years old when buildings were being blown up. Whats Todd's & Sarah's excuse? Oh yeah...none.
10This is off topic but it has to be said.
I know we're all on edge because we've got less than a month to go. Things will get heated and there will probably be some times where comments don't come out right or even just someone is fed up and attacks someone else. We're all human, we're all prone to fail at some point.
However, just because you (the general you) don't AGREE with someone's comment, that IS NOT ENOUGH REASON TO REPORT IT. There have been specific members who have had their comments reported for NO REASON consistently on this site. Now one member in particular has been put on probabation FOR NO REASON. Reporting comments DOES HAVE consequences.
I think we need both sides present in order to have an actual discussion on these issues. If there are people here who'd rather just have a love-a-thon agree fest, then its working because getting a member in trouble simply because you don't agree with them is pathetic and its deterring people from commenting if they don't agree with the masses.
So THINK before you report. (again, the general you)
11Great post Haus! I never reported anything personally. And yikes about the probation! I think that's plain silly. Of all the regular posters like yourself there's nothing you've all said thats warranted that type of action.
People should stop taking things personally...or if the conversation gets heated, take a step back. Not worth it to drive the great conversation that occurs here.
12I meant, "drive away"...but hopefully you caught my meaning.
13Some people just need to get a grip on reality. Plain and simple. No hashing and rehashing of this.
If you can't handle the heat, get out of the fire. And this is nothing. I've hung out in way tougher crowds than this. Even Christian websites put this one to shame with its vitriol. Let's not forget...this isn't real life.
14In the spirit of Guilt by Association week, brought to you by the McCain camp - I bring you Guilt by Actually Participating:
- McCain linked to group in Iran-Contra case, Organization had ties to former Nazi collaborators, right-wing death squads; http://teamsugar.com/group/1046120/blog/2337102
- John McCain and The Keating Five - Is John McCain a Crook? http://teamsugar.com/user/dreamsugar/blog/2270847
15SIDENOTE: Todd Palin really creeps me out. Ugh, something about him just doesn't look right.
16I'm assuming that Michelin got in trouble.
People who report need to not post. This is the internets. You don't have to live or talk to the person after you turn off your computer. Jeeze, grow a pair, people. If you can't take it then go somewhere else. Or at the very least, have the guts to tell the person beforehand that you are offended and are going to cry to Team about them.
17Dream...great post! And McCain's association with Keating is enough for me to go to the bank and throw my money under a mattress if god forbid he's elected.
18I just posted and got flagged for the first time. And I didn't even use any dirty words...
19Comparing her husband to a self admitted terrorist is such a stretch it is laughable. A self admitted not apologetic terrorist.
Blinders on...check.
And Free Mich.
20adren, so you don't believe anything about obama that is bad, but you hold people guilty for things they were found innocent of. That scares the sh!t out of me.
21well, there you go! Guess her name is considered dirty and offensive.
22I wonder if the other party is on probation. Can I just come right out and ask?
23Did anyone else watch The Colbert Report last night, with David Gergen? He was talking about how Palin is a serious discredit to McCain's integrity because she lets anything fly at her creepy little rallies. It was interesting, and it summed up how I feel about her. She has NO class, integrity, or ethics.
24You know Kennedy if you link Palin to the founder of AIP, then you should link yourself to your own grandfathers associations, who was an anti-semite, pro McCarthyism, he profited off of insider trading, and importing liquor during prohibition.
25Heidi--I saw that, and he made some excellent points. I'm sure the interview is up on comedycentral.com if anyone's interested in seeing it. (Or, if you want to catch a re-run and you happen to be in the central time zone, it re-runs at 9:30 AM, 1:30 PM, and 7:30 PM. Not like I'm obsessed or anything
)
I also have no idea about what goes into 'reporting comments', including consequences. Hmm.
I do think it's interesting that she has been to quite a few of the AIP meetings. Her attendance could perhaps be attributed to her position as governor, but giving the keynote? That's interesting.
26Good POST Haus!!
FREE MICH.ELIN.
PLEASE.
27GS...I don't see Ayers hiding in my bushes, but I do see a sea of foreclosure signs on my street. Oh yeah, did I mention I live in Arizona? You know...where McCain owns 3 of his 7 houses. I've seen my house value decline $100K, while my property taxes doubled. So yeah, scared more if I'll have a job and enough money to continue to afford my house versus some scary suburban terrorist living in Chicago. And 2 bank Bailouts during McCain's senate terms doesn't exactly help that either.
If you're still scared, then you may want to stay indoors on Halloween.
28"Comparing her husband to a self admitted terrorist is such a stretch it is laughable. A self admitted not apologetic terrorist"
The AIP is by defintion anti-American. He was a member for 7 years, and she spoke at their meetings telling them to "keep up the good fight"!!
And if you are going to say "not apologetic", you should also mention that he made those comments YEARS after Obama worked with him. The board that they worked on had 6 meetings, and it was a bi-partisan group of people funded by a Republican philanthropist.
29I would just like to point out, hopefully with out starting a war, that the attacks don't come from one side and one side isn't innocent in all things. We could all be a bit nicer and a bit less argumentative. I for one have been personally attacked by many conservatives on this site for what I considered to be no reason except I didn't agree with them.
I mean come on! Can't we all just get along?
30Can't we all stop reporting each other? What's the point of free speech if we go and report comments that we don't agree with or that hurt our feelings?
31kas - i agree with you, no side has their hands clean. however when it comes to actions taken by Team to silence a member, those members are consistently on one side of the argument. i think you know which side.
32I don't know what happened with the probation thing, but is it possible that the Sugar Network is impartial and put Mich on probation for comments that were out of line?
Yes things have gotten heated on both sides, but I just have a hard time believing that it Mich was 100% innocent. Not only does someone have to report a comment, but the Sugar moderators are the ones who give probation, right? Members don't have the power to get someone put on probation, that is a moderator thing.
So you guys are questioning the judgement of the Sugar Network?
33How do you know if you are reported? Seriously, I don't know, I've never reported a comment and the comments that have gotten flagged from me were done so because I had a link in them and didn't know how to get around it.
34Jill, here in Texas I know quite a few people who at one time or another in their life have wanted Texas to secede. I don't think that makes them in any way, shape or form equivalent to someone who attempted to kill service men and women or police officers or government officials. Hell, they don't even want to damage their cars. It is more than a stretch to try to cling to that. Then, to top it off, say they wish they had done more. And Obama keeps having to come in and say that yeah, he is more than just a guy on my board, or yeah, he is more than just a guy in my neighborhood. I just really wish some of you obama people would put the effort into investigating your own candidate and hold them to the same standards you hold the other side too. It really looks ridiculous on here. Calling palin stupid, then having excuses for every stupid thing biden or obama have said. Some how justifying a secessionist group with a domestic terrorist.
35So you guys are questioning the judgement of the Sugar Network?
Yes.
36"however when it comes to actions taken by Team to silence a member, those members are consistently on one side of the argument. i think you know which side."
Come on, haus...you know what assuming does. I don't even have to say it...
37Em why would anybody report you?
38Have you ever seen mich attack anyone? She may stay on a topic longer than someone else may want to, but she has never called anyone a name. The comment was actually against her by a certain member that has had issues with EVERY SINGLE CONSERVATIVE and mich responded to it. I guess she is guilty for fanning the fire?
39How do you know I'm not on probation?
40"I just really wish some of you obama people would put the effort into investigating your own candidate and hold them to the same standards you hold the other side too."
The same should be said for your side also.
You Obama people...hmph.
41Indie, have you ever seen mich make a personal attack. The other person involved, well yes, almost daily.
42I think it's time for some drinks...
It's 5:00 somewhere in the world, right?
43kast, because your posts appear immediately in response to things. When on probation, and I know from experience, it can take up to an hour or more.
44"you obama people" What's that supposed to mean?
And we best get back on topic or team will come in here and reprimand us.
45"I guess she is guilty for fanning the fire?"
Just a smidgen.
46and kast, I know you were kidding. I can't see ou ever being on probation as you are one of my favs here.
47" i agree with you, no side has their hands clean. however when it comes to actions taken by Team to silence a member, those members are consistently on one side of the argument."
ARE YOU KIDDING?
I know we are in an intense season right now, but this level of drama is absurd.
No one is out to get you, no "team" is out to get you.
I don't know who reported comments, but it is NOT a "team" effort.
48Furthermore, who ever did report must have had just cause for the Sugar network to take the additional step of putting her on probation. I think there are members of both "teams" who have been put on probation or had comments flagged (but I am not positive...we aren't as organized as you think).
Well I am, I can't speak for anyone else.
49kast, you know exactly what that means. Come on. Supporters of Senator Barack Obama. That takes much longer to type.
