2/4 isn't great... but this would be awesome! I'm participating in a walk October 26, and my team would be ecstatic with the donation!
1DearSugar,
As great as it is that you guys are supporting an important cause like breast cancer research, Susan G. Komen donates money to Planned Parenthood, the leading abortion provider in the US. There are plenty of other organizations that work toward breast cancer awareness, prevention and research that don't give money to organizations that some find questionable or unacceptable.
I know there aren't many pro-lifers here on the Sugar Network and most readers won't have a problem with that support, but some do.
I love seeing you guys bring attention to an important topic, I just think there are other organizations that would be less controversial.
2thanks for the information
3wow this would be awesome
4this information is great
5this is a great cause. The Susan G. Komen foundation and the Avon Foundation are organizations to support.
6I meant to say great organizations to support.
7This would be so nice. I make donations but can't donate to everything.
8Got 4 out of 4, but then it helps to have http://www.cms.komen.org in your favorites!
9What a great opportunity, thank you.
Wow, only 5 to 10 percent of breast cancer is inherited. There's so much breast cancer in my family that most doctors talk to me like I've already died from the disease. I'm pleasantly surprised to hear that statistic. as much breast cancer as there is in my family, almost all are survivors. thanks for supporting such a great cause!
10All Cancer research needs funding.........thanks for the chance!
11Good cause,but don't forget about your heart,lungs....
12This would be something I would be very proud of to participate in.
13My sister is walking for our mom in october. She is still $800 short. She would be thrilled.
144/4 but my partner is higher risk for breast cancer.
15such a noble prize
16nice to know!
17This would be wonderful!!
18No matter who wins the donation..it is for the greater good.
19Great information! Thanks for sharing....
20Very cool! Thanks for doing this!
21Thanks for supporting this cause. We need to eliminate this disease. My Mom is a BC survivor, thank God.
22I didn't know they donate to Planned Parenthood.
23Glad your giving this great cause a donation!
24When organizations like Komen give money to groups such as Planned Parenthood it is in the form of grants to provide specific services - in this case most likely clinical breast exams and mammograms. That money does not go to provide other services that Planned Parenthood may offer. It is a pity to see such great organizations loose donations due to the lack of fact checking on the part of the general public. Please do not let the fact that they give grants dissuade anyone from donating.
25A great cause, a very kind gesture.
26Great cause!...I'm glad to participate.
27Wonderful, wonderful that you're doing this! Would truly be honored to be a part of such a splendid idea!
28what a great cause!
29Wow, super sad that you'd not want to donate to a great organization simply because you disagree with another great organization that they happen to support.
30My best friend (only 30!) just became a breast cancer SURVIVOR!!! I would love to win this in her honor!
31bluenude3 - I've done fact checking and realize that they often earmark their donations for certain services, but each dollar that goes to Planned Parenthood keeps their doors open longer and each donation to them frees up other money to do things that I consider intrinsically evil. If you are comfortable with that then please donate. I'm not, so I support other Breast Cancer Organizations. I also try to educate others because I believe that very few people know about this.
bigestivediscuit - Sad? I'd categorize it as responsible. Why would I let my money trickle down to an organization to which I am vehemently opposed?
I think the overall cause is a good one, it's just my opinion that there are other groups who use their funds more responsibly.
32ElizabethRae - if your opinion is that you don't support this foundation, don't donate to them and don't post comments in a forum designed for people to win the opportunity to make a donation. There are other forums that address the topic of Planned Parenthood, while this forum is specific to their work with regards to breast cancer. I'm not judging you for having an opinion, I have my own as well. I just don't think this is the appropriate place to debate it.
33This would really mean a lot to me...my mom passed away from breast cancer a year ago so I would truly be honored to be able to donate so much to such a great cause.
343/4. What an awesome give away!
35Just because the organization is "controversial" to some, doesn't mean that they shouldn't support a wonderful organization such as Susan G. Komen. I find it sad as well that some would let that bias stand in the way of providing money for a group that does such wonderful things for people. But hey, that's just my opinion.
36After a scare a couple of years ago I would be proud to have my name on ANY donation...
37I would love this. My Mother is a breast cancer survivor!
38This is absolutely great. Thank you for doing this!
39Best giveaway yet!
40It would be an honor.
41Thanks for the contest.
42Oh wow, I did horrible on the quiz. I definitely need to become better informed.
Awesome giveaway, btw.
43Thanks for a great giveaway!! And for a great cause!!
44Noble cause
45I know heart disease remains the number one killer of women, but tell that to the three titanium plugs in my breast left from my biopsy. Without breast cancer research, no one would have looked twice at my mammogram. So, thank you Dear, for making this donation in anyone's name!
46I'm ashamed to have done so poorly. I thought I knew a lot about breast cancer, but this is good incentive to do some research, especially during breast cancer awareness month when so much information is readily available.
47I feel like I did a small part in supporting this cause.
48Totally agree with lsista and k8 rckstr. Go blog on a separate post if you want to preach about your beliefs. Don't donate ElizabethRae, since you're so "vehemently opposed". You may think you're being "responsible," but I still think it's sad.
49Would be so nice to have this donation in my name. My aunt and mother are both breast cancer survivors.
