I receive many questions from women asking for easy tips to help them perfect their walk in high heels. Unfortunately there is no quick answer, but practice will make perfect. For some helpful tips to master the walk read more
- Heels are not for everyone so if you have a difficult time walking in them, even after you take these tips into consideration, opt for flats
- Start with a low or thick heel and gradually increase the heel height as you get the hang of your walk
- Walking in heels can be hellish on your feet, back, and neck, so be sure to stretch your legs before and after spending long hours in your shoes
- While heels lengthen the leg and flatter most outfits, they don't need to be stilettos to be fashionable. Platforms and stacked heels offer the same lift and are easier to walk in
- Wearing high heels can throw off your balance so use your arms to help keep you straight, keep your chin up and shoulders back
- Walk with your legs straight and as close together as you can
- Make small strides at first and place your heel down first
- Avoid wearing heels in slippery, slushy or rocky pavement where you can sink into the ground or slip
- If you frequently wear heels, make sure to give your feet a rest from time to time. Try alternating with flats every other day
- If you wear heels to work or out to dinner, while you are sitting down, take your feet out of your shoes and give them a stretch
Although heels can make you feel and look very sexy, keep in mind the health risks and long term effects you could be signing yourself up for. Walk safely!

Don't forget the band-aid anti-blister stick! fabsugar posted this yesterday, I think? Band-Aid's greatest creation since liquid bandaids.

Bugness, are you saying that there's something on the market we can use to prevent getting those heel blisters??????????
2Also try Insolia inserts. These help to regulate your center of gravity to the center of your foot, rather than all on the balls of you feet. It helps prevent that ache you get. I have been wearing them in my shoes for the last two weeks, and it is SO much better. I put them into the heels I am wearing to my sister's wedding!! http://insolia.com
3OMG thanks for posting this. I've been dying to wear high heels correctly.

My problem wearing heels is that there are so many grates and cracks and I end up catching my heel in them and chewing them all up...my poor poor Jimmy Choos!!
5when i'm wearing high heels (which isn't often) i usually think of that line from "pretty woman" that goes "own it work it!" or that tom jones song "well she's all you'd ever want; she's the kind i like to flaunt and take to dinner" (she's a lady). lol, it seems sort of over the top these days but it's fun every once in awhile
6interesting. i never had problems wearing high heels, until i sprang my ankle when i slipped wearing like five inch heels and sprang my ankle. anyway, ever since then, i was always a little nervous wearing heels. but i still love them and wear them. but i usually only wear heels when i go out at night. so thanks for the tips. also i read in a magazine, that you should lead with your hips slightly when wearing heels, haven't tried it out yet, though.
7in many ways I envy those who can wear heels. I have never been able to so wear boots instead
8If you are short on money, use a deodorent stick - its the exact same thing for a fraction of the money....I've been using one for years on my feet and never get blisters anymore!
9..If you see us in the club we'll be acting real nice
10if you see us on the floor you'll be watchin all night..
I've tried the insolia inserts and found that they really helped in the heels I put them in. I am looking at getting a few more inserts for my closet. Regardless of the inserts, they really help me keep my feet happy when I am buzzing around my office in heels. And I also have to echo the recommendation to alternate shoes to keep your tootsies happy.
11I'm gonna throw in my vote for insolia inserts as well. I literally couldn't wear heels my whole life in spite of trying for years (I am 31!). With the inserts I can just literally walk around no problem. They change the foot's center of gravity to make you comfortable and secure again. I have given away so many pairs of these inserts. Can't recommend them enough.
12Super advice. I have a few good heels but I'm scared to wear them!
13I was born wearing heels, but my feet doens't seem to be able to take them well anymore - the hardskin and corn just kills...love heels tho, I'd opt heels over flats. thanks for the great advice!
14They forgot the most important part! You have to put the pressure and weight on the heel itself.. people who dont know land the strides on the toes... NO NO good
15Great tips! I sooo need to learn!
16Thanks for the tips! I'm a strictly flats girl due to a bad ankle injury, but a girl can still dream!
17Dear thanks for giving me permission to take my shoes of at work. Wore heels out to a party last night and this am my feet are killing me.
18They also have "Foot Petal" for open toes to keep you feet from slipping forward. And of course, the textured pads you can add to the slick bottoms to help with stability.
19I am not meant to wear high heels. I can't walk right in them, and I trip over my own feel, lol. They injure your feet anyways. I stick to flats.
