The author of the controversial book Obama Nation: Leftist Politics and the Cult of Personality has been detained by Kenyan authorities. Jerome Corsi is being held under the claim that there's a problem with his work permit papers — he had been in the country to unveil his best-selling book to a Kenyan audience. Obama Nation has been accused of being a smear against the candidate, whose father was from Kenya.
According to the press release issued before Jerome Corsi's trip to Kenya, the author intended to, "expose deep secret ties between between US Democratic presidential candidate Sen Barack Obama and a section of the Kenyan government leaders." A police official contradicts the notion the arrest is political saying, "We have nothing to do with the book or whoever it's about. It's about the law of Kenya."
What's the tie to Kenya? To find out, and the Obama campaign's response, read more.
In the book (here's the first chapter) Corsi lists a claim that Obama contributed $1 million to Kenyan Prime Minister Rail Odinga, a claim the Obama campaign refutes in a 40-page PDF entitled "Unfit for Publication."
The campaign pulls a quote from the Chicago Tribune earlier this year (pg. 12 of the PDF) saying, "Obama said President Mwai Kibaki and opposition leader Raila Odinga should sit down and talk 'unconditionally,' and he urged them to welcome the assistance of your concerned friends." The disputed Kenyan elections in December of 2007 led to deadly violence and over 300,000 people displaced.
Is Corsi being held for political reasons? Have you read Obama Nation?

I wouldn't waste my time on reading garbage.
1its kinda shady that they are holding him. i haven't read this book and i don't intend to. smear books are of no interest to me.
but it does look shady that the gov't is holding him when he was there to promote the book.
2I have not read the book. I hope he is not being held for politial reasons.
3LOL ahahaha well it's Karma a lovely lovely little thing! Seriously that book had some major inaccuracies, and he sited himself as a reference source in the bibliography.
4Oh the irony!
5I'm with Krradford and haus--I have no desire to read anything like this. You might as well get your political news from US Weekly.
6Or the NY Times.
7...because the NY Times posts pictures of Britney Spears eating Cheetos?
8That is newsworthy!!!!
9I'm not interested in this smear campaign book!!!
10Your orange cupcake, haus, coupled with the orange on my new avatar (GO LONGHORNS!), is actually making me want Cheetos...
11Cheetos are good, I can't fault a girl for that. Hanging out with lowlifes like Lutfi and wearing that pink wig? Yea, not so much. But a love of Cheetos? Completely understandable.
Now i kinda want some....
12I remember they came out with those weird Chester Cheeto "paws" when I was a little kid. Those weirded me out. I'm a traditionalist when it comes to "snack food whose color is not found in nature".
13wow... this is so weird and so blatantly racist. or did they also suspect the kennedys of having ties to the IRA? jeez.
14Actually, since the Kennedy's are Catholic, wouldn't they be on the other side?
15man i really want cheetos now... this is not good!
16I'm heading to lunch, even though it's an hour early. Man I get hungry easily anymore.
17The IRA is the side of the Catholics, the Ulster Volunteer Force (UVF) are the Protestants.
18If he's being held for political reasons, that's of course wrong, but it can't really be denied that Corsi is one of the lowest scumbag smear soldiers out there, and an embarrassment to the side he's trying to help win.
19If he's being held for political reasons though, maybe he'll learn to appreciate the freedoms he and the people supports so abuse here. But I don't care if they keep him.
20True, steph.
21Even though the book denounces socialistic Obama, I disagree that a book like this should be released right now.
I have no problem with freedom of speech, and this man certainly has every right in the world to write the book. I do NOT however feel that any book like this should be released or even PUBLICIZED until after the elections are over. While I'm sure the man has many facts in his book, I'd be concerned about an Author's bias wrongly influencing someone with lies or half truths.
I'm not saying to prohibit the book, but I AM saying it ought to have been delayed.
22And I feel the same way about Gwen Ifills book as well, word of it shouldn't have come out until after the election. Period, end of story.
23Book and author's politics aside, the man shouldn't be held for political reasons. If that is the case, every American should be outraged. I didn't realize how deep the polarization had gotten.
24GS that struck me as well.
25Gwen Ifill's book is coming out inauguration day, which IS after the election.
I'll save my outrage for more important things thanks.
26I bet he didn't have his papers in order on purpose to get the publicity for the book.
27i can't believe I am reading some of these things.
28Now you know how we feel most of the time, GS.
29Be specific. If you mean "we" like liberals, then you are opening a whole new can of worms and completely proving my polarization point. So, when you say how we feel, please list examples and actually say what you mean.
30"I'll save my outrage for more important things thanks."
Like for when it happens to a liberal supporter, or the terrorists we are fighting.
31I just posted a blog about the new American segregation that I think we should all take a peek at. I am not one to promote personal blogs, but this just strikes me as important.

33All I know is I just read that Holly broke up with Hef and I am devastated!!! Lets get back to the real issues!
34haus--I have never seen that show before, but sometimes I just have to wonder how Hef does it. You think he ever gets tired of, uh, boobs?
35In happier news - Jimmy Kimmel and Sarah Silverman are back on!
36how can anyone tire of boobs??
meanwhile i just thought of you Em because im eating halloween oreos and they have that same not found in nature orange color!
37I knew those two crazy kids would get back together again. Guess things didn't work out with Matt Damon.
haus! I love Halloween Oreos! Or just Oreos in general. Although I have mixed feelings on the
Double Stuf Oreos...
38I doubt the Keyan Government is holding Corsi for political reasons. He was briefly detained for NOT having the appropriate temporary work permit needed to conduct business in Kenya and escorted back to the airport. One of his assistants stated "He has not been arrested. He is just answering some questions about what he is doing here in Kenya," said an assistant to Dr Corsi. "We have been given water and are very comfortable."
He tried to pull a stunt it backfired because He did not have his paper work together and now he has to come home.

39unfortunately the festive oreos only come in double stuf! i kinda wish that wasn't true because one i ate wayyyyy too many and didn't feel so good. that almost ruined me on oreos for life... luckily I pushed through...
40haus, I did that with the peanut butter ones when they first came out. I miss grasshoppers, do y'all remember those?
41Interesting post. I would consider myself part of the middle and have be registered republican or independent (back and forth) since I was 18. I can tell you what has turned me off the republican party the past few years: the rise of the ultra religious and the infringement on my personal freedom. 100% no doubt. I'm not a religious person, so I feel I have no place in the republican party. Heck, even if I was a practicing Catholic I feel because I'm not ultra Catholic I would be alienated. And then the patriot act and the seizure of more and more power by the executive branch. If you don't agree, look at what that party has done to more of their own, Tom Ridge, Arlen Specter. You can't be a moderate republican anymore like I was. Its pretty sad.
42Do you see that your post became anti-republican though? That is kind of the point of the article. But I understand what you are saying though. I really do. Quite a few people I know now just call themselves liberal, conservatives or independents because they feel they have been alienated by the major parties.
43gs they don't sell grasshoppers there?!? they sell them here! i love them! i love them more than thin mints!
44THERE IS NOTHING BETTER THAN THIN MINTS.
45I don't see myself as anti-republican at all. I see myself as someone that can no longer identify with a that party because it has changed so radically in the past 10 years i.e. - I see the republican party as not wanting moderates anymore.
46What the heck are grasshoppers? Aren't those the creatures that that one ant colony was fighting on that Disney movie?

47I love my thin mints frozen.
mydia - i don't think that the majority of republicans think like that, we may have had a few crazies on our side, but so do the democrats. i don't think either party is against moderates.
the GOP has changed a lot in the last 8 years, but i don't think its a permanent change.
48No, I can't find grasshoppers anywhere here!! I miss them sooo much. And I love me some thin mints, but Jude, have you had grasshoppers? They are minty heaven. And dave, these cookies did try to take over an ant colony. They are kind of pushy but yummy.
49Myd, I said your post came off anti-republican, not that you were. Also, the last 3/4 of my post were commiserating with you! So no hard feelings!
