About a year ago you ended your engagement to your fiance, who you had been with since high school. You tried to make it work, but in the end, too much had happened that you guys couldn’t repair. Now, six months later, you’ve met someone who you feel strongly about.
But introducing him to your family has proven to be difficult. While most people are being friendly, your mother is acting beyond stubborn. Not only does she refuse to have him over, she won't accept him as your boyfriend. According to your brother, she’s having a hard time letting go of your past relationship, so how do you handle this?

Tell your mom that this isn't her relationship or life, and while she might have liked your last boyfriend, she needs to realize that it didn't work out between the two of you, and that it's time for you to move on, and she should move on too.
1my mom still speaks favorably about my ex but i feel that she would stop doing that if i was honest about what he did to me (cheating? parents don't tend to like that too much)...maybe your mom needs to know the truth about why you broke up and then she can possibly respect your decision to end your engagement
2I would explain to my mother that my past relationship didn't work out for a reason, and even though I am not with someone she obviously likes, by not being with him, I am saving myself from having to face the idea that I married someone out of desperation like she did, and would then have to suffer from a failed marriage. I would then tell her that I met someone great, who I care for a lot, and who is a better fit for my personality, lifestyle, etc., and that a lot of positive can even come out of it, and I would appreciate if she let the past be in the past, and get to know this great new guy.
3who cares? she'll get over it. what do you need her approval for?
4i celebrate!
mind your own business!
5What do you do if your mother ignores YOU? LOL
My mother couldnt give two hoots what I do, she is very good at pretending to be a mother and very good at actually being a moo moo cow.
6I don't care what she thinks.
