I have a question. What the hell is this?
Ifill: Governor, you said in July that you would have to — someone would have to explain to you exactly what it is the vice president does every day. You, senator, said you not be vice president under any circumstances. Now maybe this was just what was going on at the time. (Laughter.)
1Palin: (Chuckles.)
Ifill: But tell us now, looking forward, what it is that you think the vice presidency is worth now.
Palin: Okay. In my comment there, it was a lame attempt at a joke, and yours was a lame attempt at a joke too, I guess, because nobody got it. (Laughter.) Of course we know what a vice president does.
Biden: They didn’t get yours or mine? Which one didn’t they get?
Palin: They didn’t mine either. They didn’t mine either. No, no. (Laughter.)
I cant stand Bill Maher.
2I've always found Bill Maher kind of tiresome, even when I agree with him--I could never get through an episode of his show without being completely exhausted.
3I'm not crazy about Bill Maher, but after seeing him on the Daily Show, I might consider renting his movie one day. On his first show (Politically Incorrect?) he spent a whole hour asking an Episcopal archbishop - it really was interesting.
That exchange was bizarre Wade!
4Ever since I saw a pic of him dressed up as Steve Austin I actually loath this man,he is disgusting.
5I'm going to see it!
6Bill Maher is such a hateful person. This movie won't be the exception, I'm sure.
7I really want to see that Bill Maher movie. His observations of religion intrigues me. His appearance on the daily show really got me thinking about non-believers. I may rent it, considering I hate dropping $8 for movie that does'nt have explosions and stuff...tho I really feel like paying $8 to watch W.
8Bill Maher is brilliant and lovely and I adore him. I am going tomorrow!
9i love bill maher - cant wait to see this movie.
10As soon as I posted my last comment, I was like, "Why do I feel like by saying I heart Maher, I'm going to get into an argument..."
And then I remembered! Literally my third comment ever on Citizen Sugar, way back in the day...

That link didn't take me anywhere. Is that about the breast feeding thing?
12That's so funny, yy, because in that old post about Maher you said he was weird and didn't plan to see this.
Org, you talkin' to me?
13Yes?
14The link works for me. It's an old post with the trailer for this movie.
15Oh okay. I've got a Maher link.

16TS, the link doesn't work for me, either. But that's okay, I don't need to read a fight, and I don't really want to see anybody defend Maher.
17Weird. It's not that bad. It's just weird that I even remember. IF you search for Bill MAher in the search box up there, it's the third entry.
18hhaah i just read that! its true, he is weird. i used to love him, and then i started hating him because he can be such a sexist pig. but lately i've been watching real time a lot, and i have fallen back in love with him, chauvinist tendencies and all.
19Wouldn't touch his movie, but I already have my tickets for An American Carol for tonight! I am going to gorge myself on popcorn!
20Not a big Bill Maher fan, but I think that he will raise some good points in the movie and it's probably going to be a fun movie, so I am heading out tonight to see it, why not.
21I never even noticed his sexism. I think what bothers me about him is just his delivery and tendency towards yelling (I also don't like Lewis Black for this reason).
22that picture is making me want a grilled cheese sandwich
23Grilled cheese...Best. Sandwich. Ever!
24I really like Bill Maher. I love his show and I usually agree with his point of view.
25Yea nothing is funnier than when Bill compares the Pope to Nazis! Esp. considering his brother will Down Syndrome was killed by Nazis!
HYSTERICAL!
26with not will
27the pope had a brother with down syndrome? haha. actually, i think if bill maher's brother had down syndrome and was killed by nazis then he has every right in the world to say whatever he wants to about it. everyone deals with grief differently.
28no the pope's brother had down syndrome and was killed by nazis
29i guess i just don't find the killing of mentally challenged and millions of Jews to be a punch line
30needless to say but i think bill maher is garbage.
if i thought this movie would have 1 ounce of credibility, i'd see it, but i'm confident that it won't.
31sorry, not the pope's brother, it was a cousin who had down syndrome and was killed by the nazis
32Well, I'm going to see it tonight, so I'm happy to report back, but from what I understand it's mostly him asking people questions about their religion and letting them answer for themselves with him not offering much by way of commentary or judgment.
33I don't think it is going to be void of his commentary. It would be boring without the "snappy reportoire".
34GS, We're going to see An American Carol, too!
I love the fact that Maher's movie gets a story, but there's no mention anywhere of An American Carol.
I heard a bit of a radio interview with David Zucker, who mentioned that one of his kid's friends said he was no longer speaking to him because they were voting for McCain.
I found that uncannily summed a lot up in a nutshell.
35Rick roll ftw!
36Laine, it was soooooo Naked Gun. If you liked those, you'll like this!
37american carol seems like one of those "scary movie" type farces... religulous actually seems a little more like a documentary, that's probably why it's getting more publicity. and haus, i wasn't saying it was funny to kill someone with down syndrome... i was actually thinking you were kidding. just wanted to get that out there.
38I just got home from seeing Religulous, and it was so, so, so good. I haven't laughed that hard at a movie since...maybe ever.
I was wrong about the format. I had seen some promotional materials that I guess I misinterpreted. He definitely offers a lot of commentary and is very challenging to the people he interviews. I'm not sure what you meant by "credibility," haus, but I was really impressed. The message was basically, we need to abandon religion because it causes death and war and it's irrational. But it was also Bill Maher so it was funny and crass and very entertaining.
39That is so sad.
40What is so sad?
41"The message was basically, we need to abandon religion because it causes death and war and it's irrational."
Spoken by someone who doesn't believe in religion. Whatever happened to freedom OF religion? If you choose not to believe, that is fine, but don't ask us to abandon our beliefs just because you don't feel the connection.
42Well, his opinion is that organized religion is bad for humanity on the whole. And since your same freedom of religion applies to his freedom of non-religion, I don't see what the big deal is.
43"And since your same freedom of religion applies to his freedom of non-religion, I don't see what the big deal is."
Right on! Non believers have just as much right not to believe as believers. And at least non believers don't knock on your door during supper to try to convert you. Grrr. (I've had that happen twice recently. Once it was Jehovah's witnesses and the other time, some Portuguese group who gave me a flier in Portuguese with Jesus's face on it
Catholic maybe?)
44You want to know how you stop that? Draw a chaulk outline near your front door and throw a few of their pamphlets on the ground near it. They don't come back.
45>Non believers have just as much right not to believe as believers. And at least non believers don't knock on your door during supper to try to convert you.
But they do have just as much a right to try to convert you as anyone else. And if you believe, as Maher does, that religion is actually detrimental to the world, don't you have an obligation to proselytize? And he's not knocking on doors, he made a film where he interviewed willing participants who seemed quite happy to have a chance to say their piece about their religion. They all agreed to be a part of his film, and everyone who saw it was free to decide to watch it or not.
46TS, are the participants the, "lady in rollers and a house dress" types? The absolute morons who aren't representative of the whole at all? I'm serious, is that who he interviews?
47Well, I'd suggest seeing it yourself, for one, but he interviews a wide variety of people. Some are more "man on the street" type of interviews, some are official representatives of religious groups, one's a senator. I'm not saying it's fair and balanced, because he has a message he's trying to get out and he's trying to be funny, but it's not all straight loony nutbags. (Well, aside from the fact that they all believe in talking snakes, magic underpants, or some other form of religion.)
48Also, GS, I'm still wondering what you thought was so sad.
49The message was basically, we need to abandon religion because it causes death and war and it's irrational.
