Making up rap about science is cool. It can be used as a learning tool. That's what NASA thought when it asked graduate student Jonathan Chase from South Wales to write a rap about astrobiology for NASA's magazine. Here's a taste of what he came up with:
What about planet x?
Better leave that alone
The further from the heat source
The colder the home
Study life on earth
Then you do with biology
But in space, it’s called Astrobiology
Chase's degrees are in aerospace engineering and science and science fiction, but they might as well be in funk and rhythm. He's been known to use hip-hop as a way to make science more accessible. To see the music video, read more.

Rhyming biology and astrobiology doesn't seem very creative.
1Really? this is news? I am just going to mosey on over to CNN and look at some headlines that I would rather see here than this:
*GERMANS SEIZE TERROR SUBJECT ON PLANE
*CHARGE DROPPED FOR MAN WHO FARTED ON COPS
*ZULUS DEFY BAN ON VIRGINITY TEST
*NUCLEAR WASTE PILES UP AT HOSPITALS.
2I'm not sure if everyone realizes this but one of the VP's main roles is being the Chairman of the Board of NASA.
Sarah Palin as Chairman of NASA:
3"Ah gee, y'know . . . I ken see Space ferm here and ahh, I think I'm thu mos koalafide to run these types'ah organuhzations."
Then you do with biology
But in space, it’s called Astrobiology "
Oh ya, tight rhymes. But putting info into song is a good way to learn and remember stuff.
4metro--reminds me of something Colbert said about Palin being so close to the North Pole..."Looks like we have an expert for when we need to negotiate with Santa".
I think it's a cute idea, and after studying bio for, God, how many years now, I don't think anything rhymes with it! It's like "orange"! Someone, quick, find a rhyming dictionary
5hmm...that's an interesting rap and project there. i don't know if making a rap about things makes it more interesting or accessible but oh well...
6Astro plus biology is a brand new study
7A lot of the concepts are pretty muddy
Life, evolution, strife, what's the solution
Does life exist on Venus and Mars
More life than I see when I go out to the bars
