Jillness, yes I do. I DO NOT think Celebrities should endorse candidates. I've been very vocal about it, and it doesn't make any difference to me WHICH candidate their supporting, I think it's irresponsible of them.

I don't get why people get so fired up about celebrities talking about politics. In general, in a very general and non-judgy way, it seems to me that it's usually generally conservative people complaining about celebrities that are usually endorsing liberal views or candidates. I'm trying to think of any case where I've heard a liberal person complaining about, say, PAtricia Heaton or Chuck Norris, and it's not coming to me, though I'm sure it has happened.

People that resort to correct other posters grammar do so, I find, when they have nothing intelligent to add themselves. Just an observation.

You don't read all of my posts then True, because I DO say it, all the time. I'm very outspoken that ALL celebrities need to STFU about politics and I'll tell you why.

There are a LOT OF PEOPLE, that base their vote solely on what their favorite celebrity says. This is a dangerous way to decide on who you're voting for. If more celebrities would ONLY say "Please vote, no matter who it's for, just get out and vote" without then throwing in the "But I'm voting for..." line then I would feel a whole lot better about it.

My concern is that this country is in T-R-O-U-B-L-E and people not educating themselves about the issues and just voting one way because their favorite celebrity does is dangerous.

I ALSO have to say that I think EITHER CANDIDATE will do a fine job as president. They both of positives and negatives. But I still think it's very important that people know what they're getting. I was guilty of voting along party lines in the last election. All my life I had labeled myself a republican, and so in the last election I voted for Bush. (Yeah, stone me, I deserve it). If I had taken the time to read up on what was going on, what the real issues were and not voted along party lines who knows what would happen. I've seen the stupidity of my former decisions and decided that this time, I'm voting because of who I think will be the BEST at the job, not who I like. And further, if it had been Hillary on the democratic ticket, that's the way I'd be voting. I just do NOT think that Obama has the amount of Executive Office experience to do this job without a LOT of help from his cabinet. McCain has shown guts, staying power and the ability to lead in my opinion and that's what we need. Of course there are a MILLION reasons why I think he's a better candidate, but this post would take me forever if I listed them all.

Again, I don't think Barack would make a BAD president, I just think McCain would make a BETTER president.

I find the comment that lots of people vote a certain way just because a celebrity does absurd. I don't know anyone that would vote that way at all, and I think it implies that Americans aren't intelligent enough to form their own opinions.

I don't think that because some people base their vote on what a celebrity says, that celebrities shouldn't say anything. I had a coworker who hadn't read much about any candidates or propositions and just voted the way I said was best. Should I have not done that? What's the difference?

I'm going to find the statistics from the last election, it may take a while, but I'm going to find it.

In the last election 57% of people at the polls that took the time to fill out a questionnaire said that "They had been influenced by political ads from celebrities."

I remember that because that number and that quote has been stuck in my head ever since, and it's what made me so sick with myself from the last election.

My point is that people vote for all kinds of reasons. They listen to a friend, a coworker, a celebrity, political ads, all sources that can give bad info.

That's a good point, I guess what I'm saying is that if you follow the facts (Each candidates votes, policies, past record etc) AND you listen to celebrities it's cool, but to ONLY vote because of what someone else tells you makes you an irresponsible voter and in this election, maybe like never before, it is very important that we ALL be responsible!

You may also agree with the celebrities, but you strike me as intelligent and informed, and for that reason, you are a responsible voter. I guess that's what I want to see more people doing. I think there is a small number of people that let celebrities completely decide who they vote for. There are a lot of things that influence people who to vote for like family, friends, and co-workers. They were so many celebs who spoke out against Bush in 2004 and he still won, so I'm thinking there influence isn't so large.

Anyways as long as the person isn't saying, "Vote Obama/McCain or I'll pop a cap in your ass.," it shouldn't be that big of a deal if a celeb is speaking their opinion.

Mykie-By your logic this website shouldn't exist and we shouldn't be talking about politics. Someone could come on here and read someone saying how wonderful McCaina/Palin are and then vote for them in November based on that. The majority of voters are not relying on celebrity endorsements to decide their candidate for them. With that said, we as a country obsess about celebrities and then when they want to speak up about an issue or in this case presidential candidates, we want them to shut up. We want to know where Brad Pitt flew off to on Tuesday and who Jennifer Aniston is dating and what the name of Matt Damon's new baby is, but we don't care about who they are voting for or what there stance is on Darfur?

I believe every US citizen has the right to voice who they support in this election, but I will agree it is up to every US citizen to become informed before they place their vote. Although if everyone did study up and become informed how could there be any McCain supporters left? LOL

Everyone has the right to express their opinion, that's America! And I'm sure people will see some celebrity say something stupid and decide NOT to vote for that candidate, so it goes both ways.

You think only POLITICIANS are qualified to talk about the candidates? Because to me, since the candidates are politicians there's real possibility of a conflict of interest there. Also, because politicians and candidates affect our lives in so many ways, I'd prefer a range of views. A waitress may know how a particular insurance plan works for struggling moms, while a business exec could point out ways a candidate is misrepresenting an issue in terms of their field. Actors who use their time to become involved in an issue and to really learn about it, can tell me things that a politician might not - I once listened to Audrey Hepburn discuss her work in Africa and offer details of life in refugee camps that I had never heard before. Matt Damon has worked hard to learn about similar issues and I would hate to think that his knowledge would be denigrated because people enjoy his work in films.
