Pro-Obama musicians have teamed up to record "Yes We Can: Voices of a Grassroots Movement." Proceeds of the first-ever campaign compilation will support Obama's campaign. The artists also hope that the music will mobilize voters.

So whose voices make up a grassroots movement? Stevie Wonder, Sheryl Crow, John Mayer, Lionel Richie, Kanye West, Adam Levine, and John Legend all grace the album, whose self-proclaimed inspiration is "hope, unity, and change." It also includes excerpts from Obama's speeches. You can either download, or purchase the CD on Barack Obama's website. Will you pick up the Obama soundtrack, while you're waiting on the world to change?

DAY Birger et Mikkelsen
I saw this yesterday, and I was like great. Way to combat the celebrity-without-substance image...by releasing a soundtrack.
Also, it has John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change" song on it, which I hate because I don't feel powerless, as the lyrics suggest, and I'm not waiting on anything! I'm talking about issues that are important to me and working for candidates that I support. Grumble, grumble, grumble.
But! I adore Keb Mo, and the John Legend song (well, the cover) is great. I will post the youtube link to the cool MLK Jr. video for the song.

2Hope my kid likes some of these songs, cuz she's getting the cd as a present!
3I love that Ozomatli song! And I'll be curious to check out the Malik Yusef/Adam Levine/Kanye track, too, as well as John Legend's take on Pride.
4I can't believe Britney's not on the cd! To use her set designer and not give her a slot on the cd, that's just not right.
5I hate CDs in general -- I wonder if they have the same deal on iTunes.
6That Kanye West and Adam Levine song should be good.
7I hate that John Mayer song with a passion.
I'm sure this will be inspiring to some people, but I'm with torg--this is just going to throw more fuel on the "celebrity without substance" fire.
8
Don't they do this for every democratic candidate. Or is it usually just concerts like
Bill and Kerry?
9Damn it. Left out the question mark again.
10dream, see that link in the post? You can buy a CD or download it.
11this sounds great. some of the acts i couldn't care less about, but i saw stevie wonder over the summer and he made a brief speech about obama. it was heartfelt - like everything else stevie does. in my opinion he can do no wrong.
12Obama does have a lot of cool products on his website. I love the shirt Nanette Lepore designed (except for the fact that I don't support Obama, but you know what I mean). The Marc Jacobs tote is hideous, though. It looks like a pre-schooler designed it.
13I love me some Stevie and Jill.
@ kim--you know you want the tote.
14Even if I was an Obama supporter, I would never buy that tote. I would rather just donate $75.
15Although, when I first saw the shirt I am currently wearing in a picture, I thought it was ugly, but I fell in love with it when I saw it in person.
Hmmm...
16what a boring song list. And i am not just saying that because I am a Republican.
17HAHA Caterpillargirl. I am a Democrat and I find the song list boring too. But it is nice because it reaches out to those that like this stuff. I also do like John Legend and Kanye West so maybe those songs will be good.
18there are so many people who are anti-john mayer, why is that? He's neither here nor there with me, but I find it interesting that so many people can't stand him! Can someone fill me in??
And Torg, I agree, not exactly helping the celebrity image... probably would have been better to release after the election, but then that wouldn't be any good for fundraising... however, if he loses this could be a collectors item!
19I actually love John Mayer. I had such a crush on him when Room for Squares came out, and I think I have most of the albums he's released. I just hate that song.
20I dont like John Mayer, because he is a douchebag. Have you ever seen interviews with him? the man even calls the Paps to follow him so he can get press. Plus he likes to kiss and tell and no woman likes that.
21well i think that if they are able to make a profit from this - then that's a good thing although i don't know what music really has to do with a political campaign.
it's things like this that make me wonder what we're voting on when we see a candidate this year. are we voting for someone who can market themselves the best or for someone who has a firm position on issues and can make a difference for the country.
22Haus, I have nothing personal against Mayer. I just can't stand him because his music puts me to sleep, and "Waiting For The World To Change" both puts me to sleep and annoys me
23"Also, it has John Mayer's "Waiting on the World to Change" song on it, which I hate because I don't feel powerless, as the lyrics suggest, and I'm not waiting on anything!"
Yes, Torg! I hate that song, too. The message is such a negative one.
The only musician on that album that I actually like is Stevie Wonder, so I'm not missing out.
24Is he the one that sings that song about daughters becoming lovers so be nice to them? I HATE that song. It makes no sense. Also, the world to change is.....
Whoops, even talking about it does that to me.
25GS, that's the one! And he's awful.
26john mayer is a hack.
27Yeah, I hate that song, too.
Also, the strange faces he makes when he performs really gross me out. Seriously, if you haven't seen him sing live, YouTube it...he's something special.
28lol, let's get him!!
29I don't care for that song, but it does make sense. It's about how treating your children affects what kind of people and parents they become. Be nice to them, so they're not completely emotionally effed when they grow up.
30Well, the good news is we found an issue that doesn't fall down party lines. The bad news is it's in bashing one of the only actual celebrity crushes I've ever had. (Though that was years ago. I'm not such a huge fan now, but I have so many good memories associated with his earlier songs.)
31Ummm....did you miss David Bowie in spandex and a tina turner wig as Jarreth? How could you not have a crush on that?!?
32
33GS, I was about 7 the first time I saw that movie, and even I had a crush on him.
34its ok. my musical tastes just confuse most people. i go from listening to boards of canada to herb alpert in one fell swoop.
35Seriously...yum.
Wait till you see the pic I just posted. It was flagged but will show up eventually! mmm mmm mmmmmmm
36Damn hormones.
37GS - Where you been?
38Me too mich. i scared my mom.
39Haha, all this talk about John Mayer has me dusting off the old albums (and by that I mean opening iTunes) to give him another listen. "Well these days I wish I was six again, oooh make me a red caaaape..."
40Just super busy around here!
41Are you talking about the Labrynth? That movie terrified me.
42I'm not the biggest Mayer fan but I can see why he incites those feelings in people. Unfortunately homeboy is an awesome guitar player so I gotta respect him for that.
43Yes! And REally?!? I was obsessed with it when it came out!
44It was so creepy! I still occasionally think about that tunnel of hands that made faces, and it gives me the willies still.
45Lol, what's scary about this?
46stay tuned for another picture!
47"Todaaaay skies are painted in the colors of a cowboy cliche, and straaaange how clouds that look like mountains in the sky are next to mountains anyway"
I love this song.
48Torg, you're making me sick.
49Interesting! I like that song he has called 5x7 or something... That one Neon and I think there is one other one I like that is fairly new... I listened to Sirius The Coffeehouse a lot and they play a ton of Mayer.
