"I don’t agree. This is an attempt by the government to cloud the minds of its own people. It is doubtful that anyone in the civilized world will believe it. In Russia, only those who are anti-American will believe it. For these people, this explanation is salve for the soul. It is nicer to make excuses and look for an “enemy” than to admit your mistakes."
Pretty much sums it up.
1I covered the Russian reaction yesterday -- I think hearing it in their words drives it home. http://teamsugar.com/user/dreamsugar/blog/2011596
2Oh this reminds me I must get a chance to chat with my friend in Russia this week, and see what his family thinks of it all..they are pretty "average" folks - he is a university student and his parents are teachers...we don't often talk politics but he's definitely the blunt type so I reckon I will get the scoop from him.
One thing about Warcraft that was interesting is that on the EU servers they had no Russian server, so the Russians always rolled on the English/UK servers (along with the Scandinavian countries, and others like Poland and Bulgaria, etc) because the choices tended to be Spanish/French/German/English.
Consequently we had loads of Russian players...some of them were typical obnoxious kids and others were just wonderful characters to know, really vibrant and expressive (and crazy!), and fun. I never thought I would be grateful to a game for giving me a chance to befriend people from a culture that (as a kid) I grew up associating with cold war and really awesome ice skating.
I can't look at Russia or America the same again, because its never black and white.
Anyways, yeah, will be curious to see what he says.
3"they can tell us whatever they want, and we believe it based on our lack of other information." "By the way, Americans also know nothing about Russia." I think this person and I would get a long just like two peas in a pod.
