Haitian-born Wyclef Jean and Matt Damon arrived in Cabaret, Haiti on Saturday to distribute food aid to residents hit by tropical storms. Matt and Wyclef organized the food distribution for the victims of the severe weather and floods, and called on the UN to raise $100 million for 800,000 desperate Haitians.

Four tropical storms hit Haiti in less than a month. Matt said the flooded streets, muddy homes, and cries of hunger, left him speechless, and Wyclef said that "no human should be living like this" in what he called inhumane conditions.
While we know Wyclef is quite the pal of Speaker Nancy Pelosi, and Matt Damon is not so much a fan of Sarah Palin, they both seem like generous friends of troubled Haitians.

the conditions there were already pretty inhumane i can only imagine how life is there now
im glad they are doing something to help
1I wonder if they will come here to Texas. Maybe we aren't a news worthy enough cause. The shelters are running out of food, etc. But will it look as good for their pr?
2raise your hand if you give a rip about what Matt Damon thinks about politics? anyone?
Why should they go to Texas? it has no benefit for them in the worldwide stage.
3Exactly. We aren't cause worthy enough. On another note, for those who like to give privately without press and cameras, the Red Cross could really use your help!
4Wyclef is from Haiti so it makes sense that he is advocating for the rights and living conditions of his people, not to say that he isnt or shouldnt come to Texas but why does it have to be a pr move that he does that?
5Eh, maybe this is just me being optimistic, but neither of them have any projects coming out (well, not that I know of, I'm not a loyal subscriber to the "What Wyclef Jean and Matt Damon are up to this week" newsletter
) so I don't really see this as much of a PR move,
personally. Now, if this were Tom Cruise...
6I agree with Marni, Wyclef has been giving to Haiti for a while now, the only reason that anyone gives a "rip" now is because Matt Damon tagged along this time. I think it's unfair to think that Wyclef should forget about his people because other people needs help, he can only do so much at a time.
7Of course there is going to be people who hate whenever somebody tries to do something good.
The situation in Haiti is terrible, people haven't eaten in days, haven't had a drink of water in 3 days. The situation in Texas isn't like the situation in Haiti.
8Wyclef is of Haitian decent and has had many projects helping out his country like Yele Haiti. To be honest everything is not about PR. These are people and they need help.
Wade, don't talk about things you don't understand. Towns as far away as Longview don't have water or electricty. These people were hundreds of miles from the coast so didn't prepare or evacuate the way those closer did. People need help here they just aren't standing in front of a camera demanding it.
9I think both places are in Dire need, my point was that Matt Damon should be helping at home first. Just my opinion.
10Exactly how cynical must a person be to think that every good deed is some how feuled by the need to be recognized.
11I'm just glad they are in Haiti diong something about it instead of holding a press conference and ranting and raving like a former mayor we all know and love.
12Only in celebrities cases Soul.
13Wow, just WOW. That is all I can really say about your comments GS and caterpillar girl. I don't see many people standing up for Haiti and it is great that these two people decided to help. Who the hell cares about their celebrity status. The people in Texas have lots of people including the government coming to their need and plus there is a national spotlight on the effects of Hurrican Ike in Texas.
It's their money and they are using for good, you should be applauding them not criticizing them.
14Actually, I should do whatever the hell I want to do. Thank you. And that must mean you have donated heavily to haiti then?
15My question would be: "Doesn't the people of Haiti have a government looking out for them as well?" I applaud that people who have the means are doing something for people in need, but let's not forget that there are many millions of people in need here in the US. It's not as glamorous to help them, but they still need the help.
16Not to diminish the loss that people have faced in this country due to hurricanes, but there is a huge difference in the level of suffering. Even if it is a PR move, I think it is great that they are helping out a country that seems to be ignored most of the time.
17I don't know if anyone is saying that you can't do whatever you want with your money, but allow Wyclef to do what he wants with his money.
18Like others have said, Wyclef is Haitian, so it's perfectly acceptable that he's helping his country. And hey, if you've got a buddy that's willing to help as well, the more the merrier!
19Texas has FEMA, an entire agency of the U.S. government to help it. And if getting publicity for doing good helps movies open big, shouldn't Burn After Reading have done better than 19-million this weekend?
20I saw Burn After Reading yesterday. Loved it
21I plan on going tomorrow - Clooney raised money for Obama last week and Pitt's on Forbes top giver list so I think I have to go.
22It's your liberal responsibility
23I don't think it was done intentionally but the title makes it seem like Matt is "more" American than Wyclef. Obviously, I know of Wyclef's family being from Haiti and his work for the country...but this title should have been different.
24it really does make me happy to hear that these 2 celebs...they aren't just donating money but they are donating their time and going to help people who need it. haiti is in one of the worst hit locations because they ALWAYS seem to get hit by storms since they are in the mouth of the gulf. i hope that they are able to lead by example and that people who are able to take the time to go do a community that's hurting - they do. not only to haiti or cuba, but even within the US...if you can go and you have the time and strength - you should.
25Uh, yeah, let's just acknowledge that BOTH places need help, but IMO it's a bit foolish to think Haiti has nearly as much help coming as Texas, regardless of whichever celebrity helping out. My family members down there had to evacuate their homes, but are lucky enough to be able to stay at my cousin's workplace, which still has food/water to last them a week. Not saying that everyone's that lucky in Houston, but at least we have FEMA...
