I wonder if they are still using that bridge to nowhere lie. I noticed that they still use the eBay half truth.
1Hopefully Charlie Gibson will call her out.
2electing mccain/palin will be a bridge to nowhere. on the way to the bridge you will have to take a 4 year detour on the road to nowhere where you'll be forced to drive around in circles and re-live your worst nightmares of the past 8 years. basically its like a mix of hell, limbo, and that sartre play "no exit".
3If you read the article on Community Organizers, make sure you read the comments as well. There are only a couple.
4Hopefully -- I have a feeling it's going to be about moose burgers and hockey
5electing mccain/palin will be a bridge to nowhere.
BEST SOUND BIT OF THE YEAR!!!
6*BITE ..LOL
7I was terribly disappointed to hear the Republican attacks (particularly Palin's) belittling community organizers. Yes, it is a somewhat vague title, but that's because those that do it have such a vast array of goals and responsibilities. The things they do utilize so many different skillsets of leadership and communication, and require so much true commitment to the well-being of even the most disenfranchised Americans, that it's shocking to hear the position ridiculed. Those skills and that passion are necessary to a president who will truly work to effect improvements in American life.
Oh, and Lieberman should maybe take some time to reflect which party it is he truly wants to serve.
8Everytime i see "bridge to nowhere" the talking heads song "road to nowhere" pops into my noggin.
9maybe she means literally she said, yes thank you i will take this money for the bridge
and then when it was unpopular said, no thanks on the bridge, but i will keep the money!
hence, thanks, but no thanks
*rolls eyes*
absolutely ridiculous
10caterpillar girl - me too. i love TH and that song.
11desi, so true!
12YEAH! They are finally catching on the Bridge lie. Hopefully now they will recognize the "champion against earmark" lie as well. Sorry, but when someone asks for $800 per citizen (compared to the $27 national average), they are not fighting against earmarks!
13
desi!! I guess barracuda is an accurate description after all.
14That Community Organizer article was great. If anyone has ever been to Skid Row, 5 minutes in that place alone will show you the definition of American poverty. It's a depressing place where unwanted people go, where police don't care and drug dealers run rampant. It's very sad over there. This gentlemen spends his time giving these people some semblance of a life and helping them improve their situation with the DASH line, and then his line of work is used for a punchline in a political arena. Its sad when the Sarah Palin's and Rudy Giuliani's of the world mock there existence. This guy's not in the public eye, but I think he deserves it more then our politicians!
15Sarah Palin is simply a liar. She lied about the bridge to nowhere. She lied about firing the govenor's chef. Palin has lied about earmarks. Reformer? NO. Liar? YES.
16yeah it's kind of scary how all of this information is out there for everyone to learn about and research, and yet somehow people are still supporting her.
17I'm not surprised YY. The major news media continues to call her a game changer, but rarely confronts the lies. Once again McCain gets a pass.
18Yeah -- goes with that article I found about how Obama actually got 79% more negative press than McCain. Just add this to it.
19Okay, so if you all think she's lying about the Bridge to nowhere, how about telling those of us that don't think she's lying what the truth is? Because I've got TONS of Family in Alaska as a whole, and 2 family members in Wasilla directly. Every single one of them LOVE Palin, think she's the best thing to happen to Alaska since sliced bread and Bush Planes and believes the country will be better off WITH her than without. They are sending me several newspaper articles about her reign as Mayor of Wasilla as well as during her reign as Governor so that I can read for myself.
Admittedly, I don't know the whole story behind this bridge, so if someone does, please enlighten me. However if you're just jumping on the rhetoric because she's part of the "other" party that you're not voting for, then shame on you.
20Via AMERICABlog:
Palin was mayor of Wasilla, Alaska from 1996 to 2002. And according to an Alaskan news article in the local Wasilla paper in the year 2000, the City of Wasilla, under Mayor Palin, charged rape victims for their own forensic tests. Most Alaskan municipalities picked up the tab themselves, but not Wasilla, the article notes. You see, the city of Wasilla, the article notes, didn't want to "burden" taxpayers with having to support victims of rape. Yes, they were more interested in lowering taxes. It would have cost the city between $5,000 and $14,000 a year to pay for the rape victims' police medical exams. And if the City of Wasilla, circa the year 2000, wants to go there in terms of balancing rape vs, burdening taxpayers, you should know that each and every Alaskan gets a check from the state government each year, it contains their portion of that year's oil revenues. The latest check, I read, was for over $2,000. I think the citizens of Wasilla had the money.
21Here are a couple of headlines:
- Alaska ranks No. 1, year after year, in money it sucks in from Washington http://www.time.com/time/politics/article/0,8599,1839724,00.html?xid=fee...
- Palin's secession flirtation: http://www.latimes.com/news/opinion/la-oe-brooks4-2008sep04,0,5675222.co...
- Palin said Yes - before she said NO on that bridge to nowhere: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2008/08/30/palin-repeatedly-professe_n_122...
Just to name a few.
22
It's like being a woman in a foreign land.
23Mykie7 It would like me post the links but the facts are out there if you just use google.
24As A McCain/Palin supporter i looked into bridgegate. She was for the bridge, wouldnt stand in the way of building it, but changed her mind, she didnt "stand up" to congress and say "enough is enough" that was exaggeration for sure, but thats what politicians do. so the woman changed her mind, and in the end it worked out, case closed for me.
Obama himself "stretched" the truth in his acceptance speech. Its what happens, we as voters have to decide whats truth and what is Spin.
25Okay, so if you all think she's lying about the Bridge to nowhere, how about telling those of us that don't think she's lying what the truth is?
http://news.yahoo.com/s/cq/20080909/pl_cq_politics/politics2945424_1
She also used the line "I said, thanks but no thanks on that Bridge to Nowhere" in reference to being against earmarks yet she still kept the money for the bridge.
Also, knowing "tons" of people from Alaska who say she'd be a good VP doesn't really make a good argument because I know TONS of people who think otherwise.
26wow that rape kit thing... i can hardly believe it. ew. now i'm not just disappointed, i'm disgusted.
27TellTheTruth, That system of charging rape victims? was there long before Palin took office. And it wasnt the City charging, it was the police department. And than a law was passed to cover the rape kits......
28http://teamsugar.com/user/dreamsugar/blog -- changed mind - they need to stop huggin.
29LOL -- wrong thread
30Cat, also, it was assumed the "rape kits" would be covered by insurance. If they weren't there was assistance available to the victims.
Fact is, not matter WHAT the issue there are pluses and minuses on both sides. I'm sure that if I picked apart Obama's speeches and campaign I could find inaccuracies and what could be construed as lies, however I'm not going to do that. Why? Because there's no need. Let each candidate run their campaign, make their speeches, and then the public will decide what's best.
Anyone with a brain doesn't vote just based on what they see, they do research.
And livvy, do you know people that lived directly under her mayorship in Wasilla? That's where she personally made the biggest differences. Those articles and publications make for good reading. If you're opposed to her, I encourage you to read them. Heck, if you're FOR her I encourage you to read them.
31I agree Mykie.
32I'm sure that if I picked apart Obama's speeches and campaign I could find inaccuracies and what could be construed as lies.
Please do! It's not just us on this website calling Palin out on her lies....it's everyone! You can't deny they truth and while both camps can be accused of stretching of the truth, Palin's lies are big, fat and obvious!
33Mykie- I'm just trying to say, claiming that you know some people who are happy under her in Wasilla isn't a good enough argument. 4 of oldest friends went on National Tv and 2 of them said they weren't voting for her, one of them wouldn't say and the other she was voting for her and they were from Wasilla.
34I watched 4 of her friends on GMA. One said she would vote McCain/Palin because of Sarah. Two have not made up their minds. They seem to disagree with her on the issues of choice for women and removing polar bears from the endangered species list. The fourth said her vote was between her and the voting booth. Some of the people who know her best are conflicted in how they will vote. I don't care. I do know that this woman is a liar. I could post 20 articles to prove it, but Palin supporters will still defend her.
35ahh, i'm horrible at typing. sorry i left out a whole bunch of words! i need clearly need "preview".
36point proved (again). sorry!
37I'm not going to get into a pi**ing match here, but many things that Obama has said can also be said are "Big fat juicy lies". Many of them.
Polar bears are SUCH an important issue. :EYEROLL:
And I don't agree with her stance on Women's choices either. In fact, that's one of my HUGE contentions with the Republican platform, but it's not a deal breaker for me, because I know that in a million years they'll never overturn Roe v Wade. Do they want to? Yes. But they won't. Too many things would have to take place for that to happen.
I know you said that this is what these four "friends" of theirs said, but seriously, if those are the issues that are keeping them from making up their minds, that concerns me.
38Nice Liberty. Nice even coverage.
39Citizen, if it is your job to balance out the postings and threads, you need to hop to it!
40
41I love how the friends call themselves the - ah - "elite 6"
42mykie, What did you think of the Washington Post article on Palin today?
43http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/08/AR200809...
More proof of the Bridge to Nowhere lie...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OfLDjmKfigw
44She was for the bridge till she saw how much money it was going to cost. Then she switched. That is responsible governing in my book. Guess who did vote for it? BO and Biden.
45According to factcheck.org, the bridge to nowhere earmark was already removed by congress before she said "No thanks".
"This is not the first time Palin has cited her choice to kill the bridge in 2007 as an example of her anti-waste stance. It’s true that she did eventually nix the project. But the bridge was nearly dead already – Congress had removed the earmark, giving the requested money to the state but not marking it for any specific use. Palin unplugged its life support, declaring in 2007 that the funds would not be used for the Gravina bridge."
And yet even today, she's going out to make this claim as a "reformer". I don't get it. To me it screams lie. Especially if you were for it, before you were against it. I wonder if she used any of that $$$ for her to work from home. Hmmmm
46http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/09/08/AR200809...
I'm sure Lieberman isn't expecting to be welcomed with open arms by Democrats. He had to know what he was doing.
The article about the community organizer was great. I wish I could be that dedicated to my fellow humans. I admit I didn't really know what a Community Organizer did until I read that. Shame on Giuliani and Palin for degrading what they do.
47She was for the bridge till she saw how much money it was going to cost. Then she switched. That is responsible governing in my book. Guess who did vote for it? BO and Biden
The whole point is she was referring to being AGAINST earmarks and the "bridge to nowhere" was earmark spending. when she decided to be against it, after running on a campaign that supported it, she still kept all the money.
48"Guess who did vote for it? BO and Biden."
And GS, whether it was a good idea to vote for it or not, has nothing to do with the argument.
49To you and your camp, because it doesn't look good.
