Late last week, Forbes revealed its list of best cities for singles, and I'll admit, I found some of them a bit surprising. To properly rank each city, surveyors examined six different categories including nightlife, living costs, and percentage of singles. The article explains:
[Forbes] rankings are meant to be a guide for young, ambitious singles who, in an age of techno-mobility, can live and work wherever they want. Our methodology focuses on career-minded, "never-marrieds" under the age of 35.
Chances are you're not about to move to a city simply for its dating potential, but I still think it's fun to find out where your city ranks. Check out the top 20 below and see if any cities surprise you.

Seattle? Really? Probably because it's the home of the single parent. LOL
1Mmm wish they did one for Canada...Vancouver apparnetly has a 7 women to 1 man ratio... (this is also counting the gay ones, the douchebags, and the too old and too young ones). Whistler on the other hand is something like 4 men to 1 woman..or something like that...
2Mykie, all my single friends swear that Seattle is the worst place to be single! They all groaned when I told them about this list! LOL!
3Mmm the best place to meet men in Canada in Montreal...mmm yummy French Canaidans....*swoons*
4chicago shouldn't even be on there unless you wanna meet 'steve from accounting'. f-ing douche bags.
5I TOTALLY LIVE IN ATLANTA!!!! lol lol lol, yeeeeaaaaa!
6I knew PDX would never make the list. It has to be the worst place to be single. The only reason I stay is because I am making good money for being in this place!

8Boston?? Meh.
9Obviously my town is WAY to small and is too much of a family-oriented place to be on that list. I'm not too shocked by this list.
10Boston is full of singles but not the dating kind. It's more like serial daters, IMHO. The more career minded the men, the more pompous they become.
11Ew, Dallas. Stripey shirts, gelled hair ala Nick Lachey, and $30,000 millionaires.
12I second sldc's comment on Dallas guy. It's sad how the guys here try so hard to be cool.
13There is a difference between living in a place that has fun things for single people to do, and living in a place where one could potentially find a mate. This is something I remind myself every year when this list comes out and my city (SF) is at the top of it.
14Hah, St. Louis? Really? It may be the one of the best to be single in, but that's just because it's A) An interim city with a couple of good universities where all the college kids live and B) Everyone is too repulsive to get a date!
15yay ATLANTA on the list!!!
16sldc and smugirl:
As a fellow single girl living in Dallas...I feel that I have to share these two articles with y'all!

17basically, any large city??
And I find it interesting that every city in TX made it on there. There may be single people here, but they certainly don't make themselves available. Everyone's so closed off here, it's hard to meet people.
18San Fransisco?
19San Francisco, really??? It seems like every guy is gay or taken. And then in the suburbs, everyone seems to be married. Blech.
20Y'all need to move to DC. I'm tellin you, its like shooting fish in a barrel
21I'm gonna agree with all the Dallas comments...
The guys
here are... an experience.
22Well Martini, if Seattle is anything like Portland OR/Vancouver, WA then yeah, it's an AWFUL dating scene. I'm SO GLAD I don't have to be part of it anymore. LMAO
23I totally disagree with DC. Maybe I've got the wrong gun j2e1n9, but pickings are slim here!
24I've lived in Chicago and Boston as well, and they are both way better for singles than DC.
25PHX... 10 really? Then what the hell is my excuse?
26I expected to see more CA cities on the top 10 list. Makes me feel better since LA is NOT in the top 10.
27god i hate dallas. i love every inch of texas EXCEPT for dallas.... houston is DEF. the jams. and WTH?! SAN ANTONIO MADE THE LIST?!
28This list really doesn't surprise me at all. I don't live near any of these cities though so I have no idea.
