Phew! Between speeches this week, I was furiously counting up the fantastic comments from August. Mid-count, the super-duper Top Talker made a comment about the handmade signs at the RNC — and crazily I was able to capture this scene, just for him/her. . . a little craft project in the snack bar at the convention!
This man very fastidiously colored in the letters of his sign — and I saw him waving it on the floor some moments later. It was like a CitizenSugar thread come to life! All that counting though, made me hungry for a big, juicy apple. . . .
Think you know who the Top Talker is? To find out, read more.
Congratulations torgleson! This month torgelson made 766 smashing comments and added a ton to the debate! The rest of the top five rounds out nice and bipartisan-y: Stephley slides in at #2 with 510 comments, perennial top-fiver UnDave35 with 507, Great Sommelier is fourth with 422, and Jillness rounds out the list with 417.
Thank you to everyone who brought so much to the comments this month!

Congrats to all!!
1Congratulations Torg! GS, you're gaining on them
2amazing work, everyone. your bosses would be proud! i think if i ever graced the top 5 that would be when i'd most likely be fired.
3congrats torg and everyone!!!! Jill you finally made top 5! Naked girls unite! ummmmm....Im a little drunk.
4congrats torg and everyone!!!! Jill you finally made top 5! Naked girls unite! ummmmm....Im a little drunk.
5congrats torg and everyone!!!! Jill you finally made top 5! Naked girls unite! ummmmm....Im a little drunk.
6Ack! Why did that post 3 times? I'm so embarrased.
7congrats torgie. and harmony, we know why you posted 3 times...september top talker gonna be you!
8Lol I already had my time in the sun. I was junes top talker. I think. Like I said a little drunk. At a bar right now commenting on my phone.
9Damn, I'm not new to Sugar, but new to Citizen and I now have a goal for September!!!
10Congrats to all the top talkers for August.
11Thank you. And Torg, I am my own boss. If my boss fires me there are all kinds of other issues to deal with.
12I am really shocked that I am on the list.
I had no idea. Everyone was so chatty this
month. But I am gonna take a break for awhile. Tensions are too high here. I was highly offended by a comment made today and that sealed the deal. The person had the right to say it but I
found it in incredibly, beyond poor taste, especially coming from a man.
13ugh why is everyone so sensitive here?
14GS try not to pay attention to ignorance. I've gotten to the point that if I know someone extremely ignorant is commenting that I simply skip over their comment. It helps.
15Congrats to all! Love the breakdown! Fair and balanced
16Woo hoo!
17Yea Torg!!! Always fair and balanced.
YY, don't be cowed by the man - this is America! Yak away!
18I have lulls between projects and there are times I get so bored I'd like to bring in cleaning equipment and give the office a good scrubbing! But that would be unprofessional...
Congrats, Torg!
19Congrats Torg. Top talker and diamond all in one week.
20Torg may be all that, but I just got points for a question about screwdrivers on Casa!
21Thanks! I'm glad my hint/teaser/thingie was a guy making a handmade sign! I love it! (I exchanged PMs with Citizen and shared with her my weakness for handmade political signs. No matter what the message, there is something so humble and simple and beautifully American about just writing what you think down and holding it up for the world to see, makes me get all teary and emotional!)
766 comments later, "smashing" seems a right adjective. Like others, I had to step back for a mental health break towards the end of the month and remind myself to spend my free time having fun, not being mad about what strangers say on the internet.
I'm wondering if the site has ever considered a commenter-of-the-month award not based on volume. I know it's in the interest if Sugar, Inc. to encourage high volumes of comments to drive up page views and make the site more profitable. But! When some of your active and loyal users get burned out on the drama and consciously decide to stop visiting your site, it seems like it might be worth it to try offering incentives to users who are diplomatic, who provide good links and resources for the discussion, who avoid the unproductive nitpicking, who speak their piece without subtle (or blatant) digs at anyone else. (And I'm not saying that describes me because I admit it doesn't.)
But if they do, I'm glad it starts after this month, because I'm stoked about my free tote bag.
22i think that is a good idea torg.
23Torg, that's a nice idea but I think it's hard for anybody to be objective enough. No matter who they picked, people would complain. But you're right that people are getting burned out
24You think? I don't think it's too controversial to say one comment from Jude C is worth a page of lilkimbo and I bickering about whether it's funny that someone asked me if I've been to Texas.
(No offense to lilkimbo, that's just the first example of a silly argument I can think of, and I was there, too, being ornery about it.)
25When I feel burned out and ready to pull up the covers, I just remember that if everyone you feels as I do gets burned out at the same time, the matters I consider important may fall to silence.
And then Fergie might never know that her Fashion Rocks look just didn't cut it.
26Steph, I guess sometimes it doesn't matter if my opinions fall silent when they'd just be falling on deaf ears anyway.
27Oi, congrats, torg!!!
28I am still a silver member and I have been around for over a year- I need to start commenting more randomly! I like your idea torq
29Oh, and as far as all the testiness here lately, I've noticed that, too.
My trick lately is just to ignore stuff that I feel will only suck me into an unproductive fight that will only make me angrier. It helps.
30Good advice Jude. I wished I'd followed it the other night. I think it will stay tense to at least after the election. Probably a little longer than that. Passions are just to strong.
31I don't mind passionate argument and debate (actually, I love it--why else would I be on here?
). It's the blatantly provocative and ultimately unproductive comments that I skip over--the mocking one-liners that obviously were not posted to stimulate an actual, productive
discussion, but only to ridicule.
32I do the same thing Jude. Skip right over it.
33Congratulations my little gabbers.
34Jude:
I agree. Why let the trolls get you down?
35I take two weeks off and still come in at #3? I must be amazing!!
JK
36Seriously. I took a week off and came in number one! Which means I was productive for exactly one week in August.
37Torg, good work! If I had more access to my computer I'd give you a run for your money!
38Congrats all!
39Congrats, Torg! I trust you will celebrate this honor in style?
40Congrats all!
I'd try, but there's no way I could keep up. I would surely get fired.
