The Sarah Palin VP pick was described today as "political bullsh*t," "gimmicky," and "cynical." No, these aren't the labels attached by Democrats or the liberal media; rather they were uttered by two longtime Republican strategists.
Get Flash to see this player.
The top Republican advisers — Peggy Noonan (a Reagan speechwriter) and Mike Murphy (ex-McCain aide) — got caught saying what they really think about VP nominee Sarah Palin. While chatting off-air, MSNBC's Chuck Todd asked Noonan if Palin was the most qualified woman the Republicans could nominate. Noonan said, "The most qualified? No. I think they went for this, excuse me, political bullsh*t about narratives. Every time the Republicans do that, because that's not where they live and that's not what they're good at, they blow it."
Remember when Jesse Jackson got caught saying some not-so-nice things about Barack Obama? Well it looks like the curse of the hot mic has come upon the Republicans, too. Have a listen for yourself. Do you think we'll see any public defection soon, or are the Republicans confident about Palin?

maybe she WILL drop out?? weird.
uh-oh!
If I never hear her name again it'll be too soon. I have nothing against her just the sh*t storm that is caused when her name comes up.
Yeah, anything else the democrats do is Palin comparison.

I knew it -- I knew the picture wasn't so rosey.
Wow. I don't think this will be as big as the Jackson Blooper because it is just audio and these to Republican strategists aren't that well known. Now a tape of Mike Huckabee or Jeb Bush saying this stuff, that would be something.
to should be two
Once again, treat every gun like its loaded and every mike like its hot!
So......according to GOP logic these two are sexist.
I agree HF.
Nice to hear some honest opinions there.
Two guys. Stop the presses!!!
They are honest because they align with yours Ginger? All the people that like her are lying?
no, stop the presses because two people are breaking from the party and saying what they really think!
Two out of millions. Wow, that is newsworthy.
I'm shocked some people in the GOP think the Palin choice was gimmicky? I thought it was because she was qualified for the job.
Where are the citizen posts about those coming out in favor. Who are happy with the choice?
OUCH!!
Or even a post about the crazy US weekly cover, not a fake one?
I think it's big news because while the rest of the world was scratching their head and say "WTF?" -- Republs seemed totally behind the decision 100% without hesitation or a second thought. The only thing they would say to justify the decision is that her "experience" is more than Obama's (*yawn).
Now that we hear that some repubs don't think it was the best choice its totally shocking. Well not completely shocking -- but to hear it publicly is shocking. I mean we all knew they were saying it in their heads.
GS - this is a post reacting to the fact that two longtime Republican strategists said this.
Citizen has done the magazine cover, and the Laura Whatever saying Palin's been treated unfairly... the point of this is there's a break in the republican ranks - don't yell at us if the other side is showing cracks. There are more than 100 posts elsewhere, talking about how great SP is.
Not all, but MANY people are sucking up to the party line are putting on the brave face for unity.
And how considerate for Palin's daughter's privacy to fly the boyfriend to the convention so he can appear on the stage with the family.
Ah, you must be related to Steph. Mind reading doesn't seem to be that common and you both have that ability. And to speak for millions and millions of people you have never met.
He's part of the family, no?
And steph, the only magazine I have seen covered was the fake one.
Wow.
Ah, Ginger, you're a mind reader too! How nice!
No, Levi is NOT part of the family. But it looks like Palin will use anyone she can to protect the image.
So.....what's everyone having for dinner?
Her daughter's fiance? Father of her grandchild. Yup, just a guy off the street.
I don't have to read minds because I've read boards elsewhere, and talked to republicans who have been backing Mccain, and lots of republicans unhappy with the choice of Palin, but they are trying to make the best of it because they don't want Obama.
Eggs.
If they want Bristol out of the media then TAKE HER OUT OF THE MEDIA'S EYE! Don't have her appear with the family, how about that?
LOL
LOL
So, either banish her or let supposed grown ups make a mockery out of journalism?
There are tons of people here who think Sarah is the right choice, as did this whole crowd yesterday, and these folks from earlier this week.. Every time her name is mentioned tonight on the floor, there's a huge cheer. More coverage coming soon, but the overwhelming sentiment here is "Go Sarah!" I also just saw a guy with a sign that said, "GI John and Superwoman." They're definitely thinking she's the right pick here in St. Paul.
I'm not surprised by this. I've always thought that there were republicans who are not happy with this pick. Republicans are just more willing to keep quiet and close the ranks than democrats.
Thanks Citizen!
So these two "strategists" don't like Palin, that's their opinion. Do we really think that because these two don't like the choice the rest of the republican party is falling apart? Did everyone in the democratic party like Obama's pick? (Because I know of several people who didn't like his choice) Does that mean that the democratic party is falling apart?
GS have you been using that organic sugar picture all day? I really have to start looking at the names again and not the pics.
Nope, just since he was banned.
It's my peaceful protest.
Amen Dave.
When haven't they made a mockery out of journalism to suit their needs? All of Mccain's huffing and puffing about sexism and the kids being off limits is so convenient. Ten years ago Mccain made a joke at a fund raiser, calling Chelsea Clinton (then 18 years old) ugly, and insulting Janet Reno and Hilary at the same time. He was fine with kids and sexism back then.
I'm sure many in the GOP are mortified about this whole debacle. Every day it's more and more like an episode of Jerry Springer. If, like these strategists, you had devoted your working life to the promotion of party ideology and vote getting this would seem like an insult.
I wouldn't say banish her. I'm not sure it is helpful however, for her to be in the public eye. I'm not sure any of us would want to withstand this kind of onslaught. but maybe this is part of her accepting responsibility for her actions?
Actually the strong consenses is that they aren't mortified, they are collectively getting angrier and angrier at the media.
And Ginger, the reason you don't have a source besides the blogosphere about the mccain/clinton comment is because that is just a here say comment. There is no proof it was ever said. Even when mediamatters covered it they say "reported comment." What about when Obama grabbed that candy from a kid and shoved it up his nose? I read that somewhere...
