We're gearing up for this week's Republican National Convention, which begins Monday, but that doesn't mean we've already forgotten some of the amazing moments from last week's Democratic National Convention.

Looks like Gustav is stealing the RNC's thunder. They are talking about having a shorter Convention. They think it would be tacky for them to have a party while a cat 4 hurricane hits the country. Hopefully they will be able to carry on as planned in what they consider to be a respectful manner. I was looking forward to seeing Cheney and Bush speak tomorrow night. At least evacuations and preparations for Gustav have so far seemed to be going smoothly.
I think my favorite speeches (besides Barack's) were given by Michelle, Hillary and Biden. Is that Whitney Houston in that celebrity sightings photo? Her presence helps no one. Except maybe crack dealers.
1Are conventions anything more than just commercials at this point?
2I'm on my way to St. Paul now and keeping a close watch on the Hurricane news to be sure.
3That's Gayle King!
Have fun in St. Paul!
4I guess having party turmoil aired around the world has lost it's appeal Raci, so now conventions are more like commercials or revivals. No where near as interesting as in the past - but I liked what happened at the Dems commercial this time, so for now I'm okay with it.
5I just like the idea that people have to fight it out on the convention floor to get their platforms represented and to compromise. I think losing that has meant that party platforms are no longer renegotiated, they're solidified, and, sad to say at this point, too similar to one another to make any real difference in what matters most.
Go Nader!
6oh my. what have you been up to?

Of COURSE they are for more!! Their soul purpose has become giving an opportunity to Pundits to make a name for themselves! This is a news media event, not a political event, silly! Screw the people making the policies, I want to hear what an obnoxious TV personality has to say about what they THINK these people could possibly be saying, which they aren't actually listening to!
If it was about the party's platform, I would think that the 3 networks and the 3 major cable networks would have actually aired the speeches in their entirety instead of talking over 80% of them. There is so much policy detail that the majority of American never heard.
Good to know that more people watched Barack's speech than saw American Idol or the Olympics....at lease THOSE people got it straight from the horse's mouth, instead of regurgitated by an attention starved pundit.
8I can't wait to see Megyn Kelly applying her makeup and fixing her hair and paying no attention to Palin just like she did with Biden. That and the balloon drop of course!
9Amen about it being a media event.
